And we're going to start off out in Las Vegas and say hello to Charles.
1:49 How are you doing tonight, Charles? I'm doing all right. It's getting a little warm again. That ranch hawksome trek. You have that out in the desert, right, That's what happens. Yeah, it's that time of year. Yeah, and we're gonna leave Vegas and we're gonna go all the way to Virginia. We're gonna say hello to Va. 2:29 I don't. Oh yeah, yeah, it. Just showed up, showed up in the mail one day. I don't, I don't know, just some random package. You know, it's fun because just like that. You know, it was even funnier that I didn't tell you. When I opened the package, the cards, the business cards exploded everywhere. It was great. You'll have that. That was that was funny. We're gonna I'm gonna say hello to Ara. I'm doing pretty good. V's T shirt. It has me thinking that we need to get like Little Iron on V's that we can add to each one of our track talking T shirts. You know, because now in our logo she sort of poofs in, right, we need to have her on the T shirt I think.
3:18 I need to have except my little avatar doesn't have arms. You got to add the flappy arms. There you go, it does need flappy arms. That's your new signature item. I guess, well, I you know, I had planned to not really have anything to say in today's intro, but I decided that since v was kind of remember that a couple of weeks ago when she was really blue and there wasn't really anything we could do about it. So it looks like my camera settings are off because I look particularly red today and I'm not really sure. I don't have a sunburn. I promise you, I'm not sure why I'm so red, But that's what today is going to be funny. Today I am and I go.
4:01 Eric came to Vegas and got a sunburn. It's what it looks like. It's amazing. I think I need to adjust my camera settings. But now the podcast has started, I'm I'm dumed. This is the way it is for the day. Well, I can do editing when I went after we get done recording, I'll see what I can do about that. If you can make me not look like a strawberry, that would be awesome. Oh, so out when we have a very own miracle worker, David, how you. Doing, I'm doing okay. It's been kind of exciting. I took a nap and I woke away.
4:43 I hope that is a good afternoon. It's always good when you wake up. Yeah, definitely, Yes, I didn't wake up here. I am the. No I no I woke I took a nap and I woke up like in the middle of some alternate universe, you know, on the space ship. Yeah, that's today. That's totally happened to me. Well, kind of kind of a nod to you know, the movie. So so uh you guys, please head over to trek Talking dot com. So, as you know, there's no new Star Trek right now, so I put it out there to my incredible truck sperts, what should we talk about next week? And we decided to talk about this awesome movie called Project al Mary. And don't worry, Paul's going to be along a little bit later to join us. And I just want to give you guys a little bit of a little bit of a preview of what we're going to talk about.
8:12 What we're not going to talk about. Yes yet, I rearranged the show a little bit to give Paul a chance to catch up with us. So I think you're going to be a little different, but don't worry. Everything you love is still going to be there. So Project Hail Mary has been a massive box office success, grossing over six hundred and twenty million dollars worldwide as early as May. The sci fi film starring Ryan Goslin Is is an Amazon MGM studio's highest grossing title, breaking every early and setting records for March releases with roughly three hundred and twelve million dollars domestically and three hundred and eight million internationally. That's a popular movie, right there.
8:54 It was released on March twentieth, twenty twenty six, with a production budget brought down to around two hundred to two hund forty eight million by attacks credits and blah blah blah, blah blah, and mark the biggest box office opening of twenty twenty six at the time of its release, and remains in the top grossing Hollywood titles of the year, set records for consecutive days at over a million dollars in gross and quickly surpassed the Martians opening weekend figures. So we are going to dive deep into Project Hail Mary a little bit later. So for the time being, you're just going to have to chill with us. That's okay, because we are going to dive right into our fan shout out, So David if you will, okay, and Eric is going to get us started.
9:47 Nice graphic. Yeah. Our very first fan shout out this week goes out to Mario Borchard from Thringia, Germany. Mario, thank you so much for supporting us from Thuringia. I have not heard of that, but I looked it up on the map. Looks like a lovely area. And we, of course actually enjoy a lot of support from the folks in Germany and we celebrate with you. Thank you for sending us a beautiful German flag as well, and for listening to our podcast. Next, i'd like to say hello and thank you so much for listening to Christer Lanner from Stockholm in Sweed And yes, Christa likes to listen to us way up north. And guess what, Christer. In August of this year, I'm going to be taking a trip to your beautiful city of Stockholm. Yes, I'm going to be doing a whole Scandinavian adventure and at some point I will end up in Stockholm and I will spend three days there. And I cannot wait to experience that city for the first time myself. So Chris Ter Lanner, thank you so much for listening to our podcast and I can't wait to see where you live. I would also like to say hello this week to Thomas Meinkenretz who hails from Sontoufa in Germany and he sends us a beautiful German flag as well as that awesome livelong and prosper hand. And Thomas meitz Retz that also looks like a beautiful part of Germany. So thanks for you know, being from the same country as Mario, although quite a different region I understand. And last, but not least, on my list, I would like to say hello and thank
11:19 you this week to Marcello Gonsalves from Rio de Janeiro in beautiful Brazil, sending us at a beautiful Brazilian flag and supporting our podcast down in South America. V What do you say we bring it back home? Yes, absolutely, I we have. My first fan is Stacy Harman, who is saying hello to us from Saint Louis, Missouri with the wonderful Saint Louis arch which I went on ages ago. Scary as heck, with a little. Pod that they put you in that funks its way up. But that is the gateway to the west. Thank you Stacey for saying hello to us next time and.
12:05 The like you you now know this. But the coolest thing about the Saint Louis Arts, if you think about it, people, is that in order to get to the top, you're going to the top of an arch So that elevator that you get in, yes, rotates while you go. It was terrify a level disposition. Yeah, and the last time I was on it was like twenty years ago. But it kind of goes up and then it like clicks into a different position and then it kind of goes it. Yeah. Yeah, I was really amazing. Sorry, I just wanted to share that really cool experience and like one that you can't have anywhere else. And that's true. And I remember that we actually had a movie in school where when they were making it and they had the two sides and they're going to put that last you know, the observation deck thing, and the two arms are not quite meeting, so they had it like crank one down and then lock it in. So yeah, quite a feed of engineering, alrighty, So yeah, I don't think I'll go in there anytime soon because I just I don't like heights. Next, Hello, and thank you to Jeffrey W.
13:13 Johnson from Mountain Home, Arkansas, so thank you for being a fan. And next, I love this name, Rick Cahuna Nesbit. Are you the related to the Big Kahunah? I don't know, But thank you to watching us from southern Louisiana or Louisiana, I should say. And then last but not least, Mary Smith is saying hello to us and a hello back to you. You are in a Mississippi exclamation point, so thank you all for that. Next, I'm going to send us on over to Charles.
13:55 Oh, thank you. The let's start off with near here, near to Vegas here from Los Angeles, Welcome Ben Jackal. Then I wonder if you're part of the fleet. Down up down there and from Welcome Rod Owens from Live Long and Prosper, Texas. Or maybe he just wants us to live long and Prosper and he's from Texas, Okay, Then from Ohio as he puts it down as Darnell Colbert and had to put an epheis on it because he put three explanation points after it, so it really must be emphasize with Ohio. Then we got welcome from Earl Razor, Blade Royster. The third from Almo, North Carolina.
14:52 I hope I was close into getting that correct. That's definitely a mouthful trying to get that city in, but welcome all of you. And I think I'm gonna try passing this off to Eric because I think I'm probably gonna botch a couple of names. If I don't, oh, I think we lost. We lost Eric, Okay, well I will. I'll jump to mine and hopefully Eric will be back. If he's not, I'll butcher my way through them. So first of all, I want to say thank you and welcome to Jonathan Williams. This leads to us right now in the Big Apple, and of course i'm talking New York, New York. Thank you for being a fan, Jonathan. We also want to say hello and thank you to Belladonna Gray he's just listening to us in New Hampshire. Well we don't know, but New Hampshire. That's awesome, Thank you, Belladonna.
15:52 We also want to say hello and thank you to Mark Roberts, who's in Houston, Texas. I'd love to go check out the Alama never been there. And last, but not least, we want to say hello and welcome to Karen Teams, who's listening to us in Atlanta, Georgia. Boy, are those braves getting lucky? Hard to believe? And Eric, are you with us? Oh? It looks I get back. I think Eric is hey, sorry, just in time to save our listeners for me butchering the hell out of their names.
16:33 All right, so yeah, sorry, I don't know what was going on there. But which part of the show are we doing here? Paul Paul's shout out? I'm doing Paul's got it? Okay, yes, for Paul's shout outs, we would like to say hello this week to Tamas Wildman, who hails from Hungary in Budapest or sorry Budapest in the country of Hungary. And actually my wife was just there on a big European trip. She spent like three days in Budapest. Tomas says we just fired or Bono had a big heart. I was actually because my wife was there. I was actually following your politics, and I congratulate you for getting rid of somebody who, without knowing much about your country, didn't seem good for it. Thank you for listening to our podcast. I would also like to say hello this week to Beverly Goalsworthy who hils from Leeds in West Yorkshire in England. And we of course have a ton of support for our podcast in the UK, and Beverly you are one among many. Thank you so much for listening and enjoying what we do here.
17:42 It means a lot to us, it really does. Thank you as well this week to Mauricio Suarez, who says hello, My name is Mauricio Suarez and I live in Bogata, Colombia, South America, Live long and prosperity for everyone, sending us a couple acute mojis as well. Mauricio, thank you so much. That was a very nice and personal message, and I need to look up more about Bogata. I don't know too much about that area, but I will definitely be checking it out. And last, but not least, on Paul's list, I would like to say hello this week to Pernil Simonson, who hails from Nordsjeldenda in Denmark, sending us that beautiful, live long and prosper hand so thank you so much for listening to our podcast, folks. That does it for Paul's list, and I will pass this shout out megaphone over to Jim.
18:36 Absolutely. Thank you so much. Eric, And as I said, guys, we're going to do things just a little different. We're going to shake the tree and see who falls out, and we're going to move up and do some Star Trek News for you guys right now, which normally we end the show with, but we're going to move it up just a little bit and give Paul a chance to catch up with us. So, David, if you will, awesome, I just galaxy question.
19:24 I mean, it's it's meant to feel like we are giving you hard hitting journalism. So I hope it feels like that. It's much better than I like it. So we're going to start off our Star Trek News with a segment which is near and dear to Eric's heart. Heay, my favorite segment. Shantner says, what that's right. William Shannon reveals why opening Star Trek monologue is outdated. Really all right, William Shatner is boldly going with an even bolder hot take. This is great writing. I love it.
20:08 The Star Trek Icon, Who's Captain James T. Kirk labeled deep space, the final frontier during the original series, has a new perspective on his iconic opening monologue. He says it's not final, the actor explained during an exclusive Sci Fi Wire interview, death is the final frontier, and maybe even not that. If you look at quantum physics, he added, you may have reason to hope that when we die, we don't disappear. Our energy goes back home. I'm not sure what he means by that, but that is interesting. Star Trek takes place four hundred years from now, he continued, Humankind is still there. We've got futuristic things that we fly to the planets and the stars. Nobody dies and everybody's happy.
20:56 Well, did he watch his own movie? That's all over? Reaching is a little that I. Like, didn't spot them. I mean, I know he came back, man, I don't know. I don't know, Okay, he said. I feel energized and I'm focused and I feel great. I don't know what ninety five feels like. Every time I hear the number ninety five, I go who who? Who's ninety five? Here? Apparently there's not much to tell in terms of health secrets, but he did note I lead a healthy life. I essentially don't drink, I don't smoke. Shatner's healthy habits have kept him booked and busy well into his nineties. Yeah, I mean, I think it's really fun to follow William Shatner at this point, Like he it's no joke to be out there and active and doing stuff at ninety five years old. And honestly, I am really impressed. And I know we poke a little bit of fun at some of the things that he says sometimes on this podcast, but he also says some like really solid good stuff that I think is totally in line with you twenty first century thinking. So Bill, thank you for constantly being a source of news for our podcast, and thank you for being a healthy guy into your mid nineties.
22:13 Here. Brother, Yeah, it's gonna be a sad day when you go, but we're not there yet, so let's we'll talk about that when it comes. But yeah, I gotta say, he does know how to write movie. Yeah, I was waiting. It's funny. Well it's funny because there's actually a reference to it later in the Birthdays, and I thought he would wait, But that's okay, we'll do it twice. We'll do it twice. Yep, I mean movie got to give him that I'm on the podcast. I'd love to talk to you about the movie movie. Yeah, like, like seriously, William Shatner Jim Jaeger is your movie's biggest fan literally on the planet. Like, if you ever wanted to talk to somebody about Star Trek five and literally have somebody who is completely serious about his diehard love of this movie, this is the right podcast for you, because you guys, literally the two of you could just talk for an hour.
23:11 Would just sit back and let them please do that? Ye, that would be awesome. I would just listen, would camera and just listen. It would be amazing. It would be awesome. So Bil Bill, please pick up the phone, give me a call. Jim's been talking about this for years. Brother, It's no joke. Like he loves this movie. You can if you like. Uh So, speaking of William Shatner and his awesome movie making, he's also happens to be a musician of sort, And so we're gonna stick with the William Shatner thinking. And this is a story that we couldn't squeeze in last week.
23:54 But Eric, what else is going on with mister Shatner, Well. I appreciate you giving me two stories in a row, because I am particularly excited about this one. I of course have already forwarded the first sort of preview video to you all to enjoy the epicness of this announcement. But William Shatner dropped a video for his metal album, and It's as wild as you expect. William Shatner has been to Space, He's helped launch the Star Trek franchise, and now he's made a metal album. Seemingly taking a page out of the book of late actor Christopher Lee, Shatner is the latest elderly celebrity to try to appease the rock gods. Weeks after shooting down rumors of a secret meeting with Paramount Plus, Shatner has announced that a metal album he contributed to Black Flame by Nuclear Messiah is now available for purchase. He also dropped a video featuring his bit from the album, and It's as wild as one might imagine. I mean, it's epic. William Shatner is featured in the title track for Nuclear Missida's latest album, as the metal supergroup added the sci fi actor to its long list of heavy metal contributors taking a look at Shatner as he sets the stage for the face melting madness that is on the way. It's the vocal chops we'd expect from a celebrity who had a one and done appearance on the singer.
25:22 I mean, you know, that's one way of putting that put. It performance is a better description than singer I will I will say, of course William Shatner sing Oh here it is. William Shatner singing has always been more of a narration akin to beat poetry, which is of course how I explain it, and honestly goes pretty well with this metal track titled The Profit of Fallout. Unfortunately, that's the only track he's directly credited to, though, what a way to kick off an album. Black Flame has a physical release available for purchase, but can also be found on Spotify and other music streaming services. Now, this is no joke, folks. Nuclear Messiah which is kind of a funny name, but it is a large metal supergroup that both contributions from thirty five different big names in the industry, Zach Wilde, Richie Blackmore, Henry Rollins, Are you kidding me?
26:19 The Henry Rollins yes, an even alleged one piece fan Rob Halford. Yes, mister Judas Priest himself contributes to the album, making for a who's who of classic metal legends. So the ninety five year old and activist was the odd man out on this project, but William Shatner had an important role to play all the same. I'm sure many of these rock icons at least knew of him prior to him joining the album, if they hadn't seen him in his various Star Trek appearances and movie roles over the years. Plus, in an age where the metal genre isn't quite as thriving in the mainstream as it once was, it couldn't hurt to get some positive pr from featuring an actor with two point four million followers on x to help spread the word. All this to say, I knew nothing about this album before I saw William Shatner post a video about it, and now I can't wait to listen to the whole thing. That's what we call successful marketing ladies and gentlemen. I do not disagree with anything that I just read in this awesome article, and I will tell you these folks that are in Nuclear Messiah are no joke like they are considered, you know, part of the industry for the last like thirty forty years, so some good musicians here. It appeals to a certain you know, ear you have to kind of like that old school epic like Iron Maiden style metal. But if you like that stuff, this record is great and I
27:51 would totally listen to it. So, David, do you have something special to share with us? Enjoy this together? Spirits of the. Burning Sky, where angels are torn apart, in mankind reduced to ash, the world you cherished Broughts in silence, from the charred bones of creation, a prophet of blame, an emergency crowd of radiation wrapped the stage of death, is the breaker of nations, the flight upon the earth, the voice that speaks, and fire and thunder.
28:45 Tremor for the nuclear Messiah has come. I'm sorry. That is so awesome. That is epic, William sh so good. Thank you Bill for continuing to provide us with the most awesome stuff that we can possibly imagine on this podcast.
29:25 All right, that's that's better than Vincent Price in Thriller. You know, even though that was pretty good, I mean that. That was really really good and a completely iconic performance. Right, Bill has been doing this for so long, and he's done it in so many weird iterations that it's just amazing to Is it just me or my less pink? What's going on with my camera? Maybe it got better anyway, it's the Nuclear Messiah. He saved me. M we long, that's for sure. So what did you think about the video data?
30:10 I'm not much of a heavy metal fan, but it was interesting the fact that the previous news that we talked about about, you know, life and death and stuff, and so now we have this nuclear fallout thing. It kind of reminds me a little bit of a uh, like how we struggle with life and death and our everyday life, you know, because you never know what might come around the corner and hit you in the face. But to be honest, it's interesting. So yeah, I wouldn't call it metal really, it's it's just Shoting doing what shot or does, and. Well it is. It definitely follows kind of an old school sort of like epic you know, symphonic sort of metal theme to it. But the thing that's amazing about it is, if you think about it, the name of the band Nuclear Messiah, right, like philosophically, what that means is that we can only be saved by just being by destroying ourselves. And so there's this whole if you really want to get into the philosophy of like William Shatner's beat Nick poetry here.
31:24 Wow, that just cheers me right up. I'm just saying, dude, like, I don't know, I'm just the messenger. I know, I'm the one who actually like get like listens to this kind of crazy stuff and it's like, oh man, man, that's that's kind of intense. And then most people listen to it and they're like, that's just silly his rocket man. Oh man, that's so good. It's so good. Yeah, yeah, you know it's schattneran. You gotta be on with what you get.
32:08 If you come on the podcast, you can sing. All you want. How does that sound? We can Yeah? Well you know what, turn. If you come on the podcast, it'll be our singing episode like they did on Strange New Worlds. Well the podcast, and we'll do it awesome on the whole show. We'll sing the praises of Star Trek five and our greatest voices. Totally needim. We need to develop a musical that is all about, like why Star Trek five is the best movie. I feel like that it would be awesome.
32:53 Well, you know Andy Bray did did a play on the Spot's brain and why that was the greatest episode. Maybe maybe I'll give Andy a call and. See what he can come up with. Oh, that would be That would be awesome, you know, and you. Know we can pee our sparkly space hands. You know, I have to find where I put mine. Boy. Anyways, So that's our Shatner stories, and I think he gets our next. Yes, And I'm glad to be able to read this one because uh, it's a special place in my heart.
33:35 And also it goes along with the infinite diversity, infinite combinations that is the at the heart of Star Trek. But The Critics Choice Association announces Honorees for the third Annual Celebration of lgbt Q plus Cinema and Television. To The Critics Choice Association, which we'll be referred to as CCA, announce the date and honorees for its third Annual Celebration of LGBTQ Plus Cinema and Television, which recognizes achievements across the LGBTQ entertainment community and spotlights the talented stars, creators, and writers behind some of the year's most acclaimed projects.
34:23 This year's event will Taste take place Friday, May twenty ninth, twenty twenty six, in Los Angeles and will celebrate both emerging and established LGBTQ plus film and TV talent, highlighting the breadth of their contributions and the impact they continue to make across the industry. Academy Award and Emmy nominated actor Tig Nataro and actors Karreem Dna, Gina Yeshir, and Caris Brooks will be honored with the Ensemble Award for their roles in Paramount Plus's Star Trek Starfleet Academy. The series has been lauded for its dynamic, romantic storylines exploring queer love, including DNA's character Jayden Cragg, the franchise's first gate Klingon, and Nataros and Yasher's workplace romance, which was adorable by the way, garnering acclaim from LGBTQ plus fans.
35:25 LGBTQ plus representation continues to matter now more than ever, said Joey Berlin, CEO of the CCA. The CCA is proud to celebrate and uplift the achievements of the LGBTQ plus community. The CCA is the largest critics organization in the United States and Canada, representing more than five hundred media critics and entertainment journalists. It was established in twenty nineteen with a formal merger of the Broadcast Film Critics Association and the Broadcast Television Journalists Association, recognizing the intersection between film, television, and streaming content. So congratulations to those wonderful people who I just want to hug every one of them and bring them on the show.
36:20 I got. All I got to say is I. Will be so excited if that goes in the direction I think it will. Ye right forget about. But you know, I went back and I rewatched Starfleet Academy, and man, that is a great show. You barely kept your brain inside yourself. It's I'm shocked that.
37:02 It's so good. It's so good. And you remember, Jim, when Star Trek Discovery first came out and we first reviewed it on this show, and one of the very first things that we ever said early on in Discovery was that although people of this era may not completely understand and grock the show so to speak, in ten twenty thirty years, it will become a seminal part of the Star Trek universe. And I kind of feel the same way about Starfleet Academy. I feel like in the future people will be like, why did they only run that show for two seasons? Because it's only I think the current political environment that we have that has caused it to be a two season phenomenal recources, you know, something, they could have gone like five to seven seasons. Honestly, like, I know, not everybody on the podcast feels the same way.
38:00 I respect that, but like that's the way that I come. Yeah, oh absolutely, that's the first thing I thought. And I feel that that's an apropos with this, like you know article all about representation, which I think that show has in spades, and I think that Discovery also did a great job. Well was his name, David Ellison, the new owner of Paramount plus sky Dance whatever it's called these days, is it Ellison? I think, yeah, I think it is something like that. I saw an interview with him today. I was going to put the article in the news, but it was it wasn't worthy because Star Truck was only mentioned once and he was talking about in a nutshell that Paramount Plus since the merger has seen seventeen percent hike in its subscriptions and you know the income that it's generated. Is that a coincidence that they canceled Star Truk and it went up. I don't know. I've heard a lot of people canceling their subscriptions because of what happened.
38:58 But he's said that all of their shows, including Star Trek, are important to them and they plan on bringing them back again. And he specifically mentioned Star Trek and I found that funny because he's the one that canceled them all. So, you know, are they planning to move Star Trek into something different? They tore down the sets, they sold all the costumes, so I don't really know what that means, but he did specifically say that they were interested in moving Star Trek in Well. Yeah, and I also saw because I have I watched so many things on the free Pluto TV app and there's a story because I didn't realize that that is part of Paramount Plus and they're going to be like bringing it into the Paramount Plus whatever. Spider Web of Doom, I don't know what to call it, but and it's just like, oh, no, are they gonna what are they going to do? It's allegedly to bring more content and everything, but that's the one that has like you can watch Voyager and d S nine and T M G and the t O S.
40:15 Basically NonStop. You know, they each have their own channel and then they will show the movie so we'll see. Yeah. So uh yeah, this picture here, I found it on the Internet and I've taken I saw that. What the heck people need to get a life. Yeah, I'm trying to find a picture with all of them together and I couldn't find one, and I found this one. And everyone's bitching about it because it's it's a crappy AI picture, but it's the only picture I have I could find. Because I don't think I don't think they were all ever in the scene together that I can recall. Well, to quote to quote Shatner when he was on his on Saturday Night Live years ago, to those people who were complaining about it, get a life, move out of your parents' basement.
41:13 I just you know, it is what it is, is, you know, celebrating the force. It is. They're awesome. It is so yeah, So that's Uh, I think we have more stories to talk about, Yes, we do. I think Charles actually has the next one. You'll know why I gave this one to child. Yep, but she'll be disappointed when my conversation after Different Star Trek ears will be celebrated each day at Star Trek Las Vegas twenty twenty six. This is the addition to Star Tuk Lasses, the day It's biggest big cosplay contest on Saturday. This will include any and all eras, but the daily cosplay context will stick to the day's decade and only that decade, so if you're tending, be sure to plan on your outfits and cosplay accordingly. The only sad part is I won't get the chance to see it or participate it.
44:44 Because this is the sixtieth anniversary. They pushed heavy on the five day tickets, and the first three days of the con is when my school district goes back to work, and so it's going to be it would be, it would be a It would have to be doing a lot of the kissing up to try getting those three days off, and with tickets being close to one hundred dollars a day. I've got something else coming in later that i'll later in September.
45:29 Then I want to spend towards So I'm not going to make it because normally, normally they would do single day tickets, but they have hyped the sixties so much that they're not they are not planning on selling single day tickets. You have to buy a five day. Package to go Wow, which means a good five hundred dollars. Spending five hundred dollars. To Go. Wow, which to me is a bit of an expensive con for that many days. So if I want to dress up as Sybot, for instance, and I can't go to the show on five because Star Trek five is only on Thursday, oh.
46:10 You can dress up is him on Friday, but the contest is going to be on Thursday. But you've seen a couple of my pictures for the for fans who've actually watched our slide show, you've seen a couple of pictures that's actually a couple of pictures of me actually at the con. It is as big as Sandia coma conk. There are so many different codgeplays and it's not Star Trek. It is sci fi. I've seen Star Trek or I've seen Star Wars. In fact, I've seen. A Stormtrooper with a Delta on his uniform.
46:51 I have seen Doctor. Who, I have seen Battlestar Galactica doctor. Who I have seen. Oh I can't get a star Star Trek parody run off my head. But I've seen a couple of them show up, Plexi Quest Galla, We've had Galaxy Quest college costumers come in. It's a big sci fi event. I've already seen posts from the Galactica group who's planning on storming the convention with their stuff. So if you're going to four and can make it, it's a great convention to go to. I just wish they hadn't pushed it back to five days and then push it. We had to show up, buy tickets for five days.
47:38 You know what I think we need, Uncle Jim, I think we need a GoFundMe And Charles doesn't have to go for five days, but we need to get him a five day ticket for the two days that he can go. There, you go, I got too much. I'm doing those three days. David, I got a lot I gotta do. Let's fly David out there. Let's have a go fund me out there. Hey, I wouldn't. I wouldn't get glad we go heck. Yeah, or totally vas our social letters.
48:20 And I'll try to get my waxa outfit because I have I was just thinking what do I already have that would fit in those categories and what would I need to get, you know, so I was already mentally. Yeah, well actually it was funny. Yeah. As he was reading through that, I kept thinking about you. I was like, what would be where? Because I've got lower decks, I've got strange new worlds. I have, uh voyager with the eighteenth century of Arachnia. I was working on Lasana and mister Holme, who's lying on the floor behind me, tipped over. Uh. Just about every day.
49:01 I would just I would have to get oh. We got to get you a t O S A t O S Y. Yeah. Yeah. It'd be really interested in what people will do for the CON podcast one, because that to me, you know, it's like there's not like a visual que that will bring you into exactly to do. So, well, there's the Red Maroons, had people in Red Maroons. Well that is true, but I guess the con podcast is not really about anybody in the Red Route. I mean, I guess there's the narrator, but like if you wanted to go with something that was like what they look like on the planet. You might have to go to one of my favorites that uh that uh, what is it called. It's called Life in Hell, something in Hell with con. It's a graphic novel series. Gosh darned, I just lost the name of it, Living in Hell, Raining, Raining, Raining in Hell. I think it's called something like that. Yeah, you know the one I'm talking.
50:09 Yeah, the word a giant seti eel. You know, it would be funny if if you had a family that was, you know, with a lot of kids, you have the parents as the parent eels and the kids as the little baby eels, that would be That would be creepy. That would be creepy at heck. But whatever, the jolly green giant it was not what was the dude's name the brain people? Yeah, no, no, the what oh you mean on the on the of the con Oh yeah, yeah, I don't remember.
50:53 I was just trying to think. I know that one of them sounded like what did Paul say he had? He didn't The voice was kind of didn't sound like, you know, a mysterious brain, you know, reading alien. I don't know. I'm thinking if you. Could get like a cardboard cutout of con and just like, you know, have a handle on the back and. Just in front of you. I just walked around like that. That would be great. Oh, it's actually pretty easy costume and very common. I know, it's not going to make it too hot. You could, you know, dress your gym shorts behind. Yeah, oh my gosh, yep.
51:38 They were sorry that. Yeah. I just looked up that comic. It's that comic that I was talking about, is called Ruling in Hell. It's a fantastic comic that if yeah, if you have, if you've never read it, there's this old comic that's all about the days back on SETI Alpha five And it was before the new podcast or the you know pot I guess his podcast. I don't know, like an old time radio program. Narrative, old timey radio. Yeah, the then podcast. They were sort of like because I remember Uncle Jim was sort of mispronouncing them their names. Sorry, I don't sorry, Uncle, don't don't del Delmonic. You kept it was del Mondo. Yeah, and he kept on Delic. Yeah that was his name, I think, yeah, yeah, and I was yeah, but his name was del Mondo.
52:39 But I forgot what they the beings were actually called. Yeah, well, no, well, Charles will know that there is a there's a genre of audio book that kind of goes beyond just the standard audiobook, and they call him, I think they call him like dramatic interpretations or dramatic performances or that kind of thing, and the rat dramatizations, that's what they call them. And they kind of take a like regular audiobook and they sort of like soup it up with extra sound effects and multiple actors and like that kind of stuff. And that's what this podcast reminded me of, was one of those dramatic adaptations of something.
53:23 Actually, Eric, if you like that kind of style, the new Harry Potter books the same that exact same feature. Okay, they should do a Trek Talking podcast costume at Star Trek Las Vegas, where you dress up as your favorite co host. I love that idea. Oh well, too bad, too bad, Trek Talking actually try to go to the con and one of the hostess decide to go sick that weekend. That was that was the cod Yeah, so Eric, we are not gone with William Shatton.
54:09 A William Shatner article tonight. Oh my gosh, I love this so much. So William Shatner article number three. William Shatner's bread needs for quality avocado toast. That's right, He's not just talking about Star Trek or whatever. He's talking about avocado toast. William Shatner is an acting legend, most famous for his performance as Captain James Kirk in Star Trek, but it turns out he's also something of a foodie behind the scenes. From his secret ingredient enhanced muffins to his tasteful Italian cheese preferences, the Canadian actor clearly appreciates eating well, and like any good foodie, Shatner's not afraid to share strong opinions on the proper way to prepare one of the most mocked and adored foods of recent history, alvocado toast. And let me just tell you this hits home personally because my wife makes this stuff every single morning and she's got her way that she fixes it.
55:12 So I'll just say I have a personal stake in this story. He explained quite logically that if the toast isn't crisp enough, it will bend under the weight of the avocado, but if it's too crisp, it will shatter into a crumbly, gloopy mess. He said, the quality of the toast to me is just as important as the quality of the avocado. Avocado toast may be a millennial food trend boomers can't stand, but William Shatner has apparently been enjoying the tasty treat for years. He revealed that he regularly enjoys avocado toast at a particular restaurant. Of course, he doesn't want to reveal where the housemade bread is toasted to a Goldilocks level of crispy not too crispy perfection.
56:02 While the actor leaves his preferred avocado toast spot unnamed, it may be one of these restaurant chains that baked their own bread on site. Ooh, there are links in this article that we are not sharing with you. It looks like sorry, listeners. In addition to his highly specific bread requirements, Shatner shared a few of his preferred avocado toast toppings. He noted that he likes a touch of spice from hot peppers in his avocado toast, and that he had recently enjoyed an extremely tasty version. He said, I got an avocado toast the other day that was so much more tasty than others that I have had due to the fact that they had a sprinkle of honey like layered through it. He said, no matter how you slice it, Shatner's avocado toast opinions are anything but half maddow.
57:00 Oh my god. See, that's why we can't have nice things, because we're spending too much on avocado toast, right, you know what. And it is amazing how much they charge for this stuff at restaurants. But but if you make it at home, you can just make it for And you think he's you know, you make it every morning. Would he be talking I'm wonder if I'm trying to think which rest would he be talking about? Panera? I don't know, do they make their own bread? Well, well, I'm wondering. I don't know where he lives. Does he live in I know he has I think he still has his horse farm in Kentucky somewhere, so he. So he's probably got a secret spout man. David found some good photos.
57:43 Avocado even with honey. Yeah, and look that one's even got a honey thing. How'd you do that? Is that? Ai? I didn't find him? Way to go Jim. There? Yeah, yeah, well that is way better than the fish the fish story that he told at the Star Trek, New Jersey where he got food poisoning and he was doing a one man Broadway show the next day. Yeah, so way better because. You didn't have an avocano toast. It must be Yeah, I know, yep, that makes for that picture.
58:29 That's a good picture. Oh my god. I tried to find pictures to match the story, and you did. Because we had a big Shatner Shatner thing this week. Well, Paul is going to be here shortly, and I think I've got time for one more story. I hope I'll try to squeeze it in before Paul gets here. There it is right there, there's the shack Man. Star Trek means that a band in Quentin Tarantino movie. Now more than ever, the Star Truk playranchise is currently in a depressing state of disarray. Although there are still three fall seasons raped and are on their way to a strange New Worlds and one of Starfleet Academy, there is very little accoum After that. There's been some news about the upcoming movie from the duo behind Chris Pine's Dungeons and Dragons movie, which was excellent by the way not enough to get Treky's poll excited, But do you know what would really stoke the coles and Star Trek's dying fire.
59:30 Revisiting the idea of Quentin Tarantino boldly going into. The director's chair. Despite not being commonly associated with the big franchise like Star Trek. There have been various plans in a relatively recent pass for an epic collaboration between Tarantino and Roddenberry's beloved space opera. A movie that fit this bill was once planned, but the team up has left closer and was left closer at times than it has at others. Now, rather than feeling like an optional extra that would have given the franchise and nice boost, a Tarantino directed Star Trek movie feels almost like a necessity. Do you know what would create an immense buzz in the fan base.
1:00:16 Though Tarantino decided to finally go ahead with directing the Star Trek movie he had once planned on making. Reported to have been an R rated project, Tarantino Star Trek movie really got fans talking when it started to be discussed in twenty seventeen. We talked about it here on this podcast. Even his rich world of Star Trek sounds like both an awful match, which, while being a deeply intriguing prospect, Tarantino's legend transcends genre, so there was a more excitement than there was apprehension. That's exactly what Star Trek needs right now, with such an uncertain and dwindling future head where a potential bump in the road could arise. Here, Tarantino isn't the kind of director who generally involves himself with sequels. On the other hand, this philosophy hasn't completely stopped him before. What provides the most promised is the fact that Tarantino wrote and directed Once upon a Time in Hollywood in twenty nineteen, and the upcoming sequel about Cliff Booth Brad pitt as a new director, David Fincher, with Tarantino openly penning the script. So even if Tarantino didn't want to direct a string of Star Trek movies, the tone he could establish and the first one effort could lead into follow ups replicated by other film makers.
1:01:39 And we talked about. This, you know, way back in twenty seventeen, but I thought that a starch that Quentin Tarantino pulp fiction each Star Trek would be awesome. I was for them the start. Yeah, I mean we talked about it like relative to the Uss Callister episode from Black Mirror, right, and the fact that that had kind of a darker tone to it and you know, used a Star Trek theme to tell a story that was really really super creepy. I I think that there's a lot of potential in this. I think that it would both delight and scare the crap out of Star Trek face.
1:02:23 Yeah, because they didn't. Like, I'm totally on board, but somebody like the might be like. Fuck, no, I wouldn't say that. I would. I would give it a chance. I was just thinking, yeah. Yeah, no, I would. It would probably give the the you know weenies who complained about Starfleet Academy even more. To complain about, So. That would be oh yeah, they would, they would, they would. Yeah, they would just absolutely lose what's left to their minds. So yeah, I know, right.
1:03:07 O, Man, I want to try it with Honey. Now that sounds cool. Because you were yeah, because you were eating an avocado when before we went on the air, so you just didn't have you just didn't. I thought about that. It's like Groucier toast that you need have to go with that. Oh my goodness, funny. I mean, I. Remember the apprehension when JJ did the first Star Trek movie in two thousand and nine, which I happened to really really enjoy. And I think that Quentin Tarantino could bring something to Star Trek that maybe we've never seen before. Maybe we'd hate it, maybe we wouldn't, but it would be different, that's for sure. And I think that that's the necessity of life. I think being different is good.
1:03:56 Yeah, speaking of that, could that be the direction that they're going to go with with Toalmount now with the new Dietraktor talking. About it's it's possible. Yeah, I mean, if I remember correctly, it was a long time ago. In the Galaxy Far Far Away, I had got it. I believe. Tarantino said that he only wanted to direct ten movies, right, and he didn't want his final movie to be Star Treks, so he backed out of it because he wanted his final movie to be one of his own. So has he directed a tenth movie yet? I don't know.
1:04:41 I don't know. That's interesting. I don't remember that. Yeah, was he waiting I'm not sure, but I think if Allison wanted him and they ended up money to throw at him, he would do it. Yeah. Could we get Samuel L. Jackson if it's going to be R rated, you know, because he is pretty good at dropping those bombs, you know. Ratedness. Yeah, you can get John's Revolt. Well, he's he's kind of past his he sort of passed his days as I can't think of what his character's name was. But they could discuss about what they call was it what they call whoppers in France or something like that?
1:05:28 Oh yeah, Royale cheese. Oh my gosh. They could do that absolutely. But I think it would be a good idea. I really do. I think it would be a good idea. And didn't we see a story? Wasn't Scott Baculu supposed to be coming back with some more enterprise? I thought I saw that. Oh okay, okay. I think that's kind of just more speculation, kind of like the Star Trek legacy stories. You know, it's not necessarily actually a thing, is just more of like, wouldn't it be cool?
1:06:11 Is yea to not have the to not have it end in uh? Troy and Reiker watching a holidaycks thing or whatever the heck it was, or you know, Bobby Bobby stepping out of the shower and Pam wakes up from a dream. So that's a sorry mm hmm. Let me tell Trip too, if I remember correctly, didn't the mm hmm, didn't Trip die? Yeah? Yeah, if you haven't seen that in two thousand and five, room for you? Mm hm.
1:06:52 Oh boy. So we're waiting for Paul to get here. We finished up all of our story. Yeah, I think we can. I think we can go aheadn't move into this, Jim, because we still have the polls about Project Hill Mary. We can still do the summary, So I think we can. I think we can start to dive Paul. I have faith that Paul will be here in the next like, you know, five to ten minutes or so. All right, so let's let's have our poll. We'll see I. Wait, yeah, I was gonna say, if only we had a cool song to go along with polls. Oh no, wait, we do.
1:07:43 You know me? Like, no, when what you thought about the show? When we try to share your opinions with all of our. Minions out there because they listen worldwide, tell us just what you think. Get together we will all. That's such a good video, David, It's such a good video, like it just goes along with the lyrics and people. We didn't develop that together, like we developed perfect images to go huh cool. I know, he's like together, we will all think.
1:08:29 You know. It's like like. I like how the millions of the song. I know, and they're on Data's screen. Are you kidding me? The man? I'm telling them it's pretty cool, totally totally worth it, just just for that alone. That yeah, for that, for that video alone, it's worth Oh yeah, and me looking down at something plus. The news video with us looking all deep and you know, introspective. Yeah, and you're looking down at this or drop my headset what is it?
1:09:16 Oh my god? Oh boy? So uh so that On our. Facebook page, guys, which is Trek Talking and beyond, we have all kinds of polls that you can take place. In this particular poll for this week, I asked you guys, you know what you thought about Project Hill Mary on a scale of one to ten. Now, before we get into that, I gotta say something, guys. I was a little bit disappointed because normally when you guys answer our polls, you'll say well, I didn't like this because his hair looked bad, or or the Klingon's ridges weren't right, or you know, at least give us some reason for why you scored the episode the way that you did.
1:09:57 But nobody did that. They just gave us numbers, So we don't really have any fan uh things to talk about. But at any rate, David, what did our I'm old and what did our Facebook fans think about Project tail Me? Well, Jim, if you're willing to go with my uh with my whim here, I'm willing to provide commentary for each one of these numbers that has absolutely no comments with them, and I will just kind of interpret based on the name of the person. And what I think they would have said about the episode is that does that feel okay to you? I know it's not perfect, but you know it feels like it's kind of halfway there, living on a prayer. All right, here we go. Rising fan James Young gave it a nine. I'm sure that James, if he had actually commented, would have said that this is really killing it so far, this series, this movie is really killing it. And he loves the acting of Ryan Gosling, Jim Barrett gave it a ten. He I'm sure he would have said, it's basically a perfect movie.
1:11:16 Janella Rolaire gave it a ten with an exclamation point that's basically like I'm feelingly, she would have said, this changed the way that I thought about raising my children. Aaron mckelney gave it a ten. I'm sure that if Aaron had given it a comment, Aaron would have said that this completely changed the way that I thought about robots. Joe McCloud gave it a ten, and I'm sure that if Joe had actually commented on something, he would have thought, you know, I used to think of rocks as inert objects, but now suddenly I think they're awesome. Thanks Joe. Sandeholo also gave it a ten, and I'm sure if san had actually left a message, sand would have said that the design of the alienship was really, really cool. Maurice Seluke gave it only a seven, and I'm sure that if Marisus had actually left a comment, they would have said, you know, there were some differences between the book and the movie, and they just kind of turned me off a little bit. So that's why I gave it a seven. Gustavo.
1:12:13 Ippolito gave it a nine. Gustavo, I'm sure if he had left a comment, would have said something like, this is an almost perfect movie, but I didn't like the way that Ryan Gosling's hair looked. Gary Kin gave it a ten, and I'm sure that if Gary had actually left a comment, Gary would have said, I gave it a ten because I thought Ryan Gosling's hair was amazing. And the trek gals who sounds like a plural, but perhaps that's a new way to identify oneself. I'm not really sure. In the twenty first century said I gave it an eight out of ten, thanks trek Gals, And that gives us a fan score this week of nine point three for this awesome, awesome.
1:12:56 Day. So I wonder what. I wonder what our truck's first? But before we do that, do you guys want to watch the trailer? So we're all on the same page. Oh you want to wait to get here? No, let's let's get the party started. And I'm sure he's going to show up any minute. Okay, So David roll the tape. Here it is guys, m. Please stay to your name Roan Gray. He spoke up from a coma. There's several light years from my apartment. And I'm not an astronaut. I'm not.
1:13:39 I'm not an astronaut. If you don't go, you die with the rest of us. The Sun is dying. You're the only scientists to might know what this is. I'm just a teacher at go over Cleveland Middle Yeah. The doctor a molecular I need you to come with us. This is project Tell Mary. The Sun is not the only star dying. Every star was infected by its neighbor except one. Why which is why you. Build a ship to go there and find out it's eleven point nine light years away. The astronauts guy in space.
1:14:20 That's what you Americans will call a lung shot. Hell, Mary, I get it on Earth is going to sign up for us? Should we do nothing, everything on this planet will going stint. You'll find a solution. Who are my solution? I put the knot an astronaut. I've never done anything. I've never done a space I can't even moon walk.
1:15:06 I understand mistakes. I do. My plice is in the classroom about just counting. On you, Thank you. This might be very hard for you to understand. But some people are not good at things. You know, who you are? You going to do great? I can't perote at five hours. Yeah, okay, I'm proaching. Oh my god, So I met an alien.
1:15:51 He's kind of growing on me, at least, not growing in me, you know, which was a concern for a little while. I'm grace. I'm gonna call you Rocky. Thumbs up. Nope, it thumbs down. We did the thumbs Uh. It's close enough. Oh yay. Wow. All right. There you have it, the trailer for Project Hail Mary. And now we're all on the same page, you know, the fans scores, Eric, take it away.
1:16:31 Yeah, all right, we're here to talk about this awesome movie, Project Hail Mary, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, which of course was released in theaters just last March March twentieth, about a month and a half ago. It's based on the twenty twenty one novel by Andy Weir, whose other notable literary contributions include twenty eleven's The Martian, which they made into a movie in twenty fifteen, and twenty seventeen's Artemis, which is currently a movie in development and also an awesome book among many, well not many, but like a few other things that he's contributed to. In particular, he has a short fiction anthology that he's contributed to. Now, just to set the stage for the type of story we're going to encounter, most of Andy Weir's novels are structured like a series of technical hurdles.
1:17:29 So it's often called procedural storytelling, where each chapter is essentially a standalone puzzle. And you know, once a part of the ship is fixed, then something else breaks, and then something else happens. So that's the way the book is laid out, and that's much the way that the movie is laid out. So in summary, the movie kind of takes place over the course of four acts and then kind of has an epilogue to it. It opens with a disorienting, high contrast sequence with our hero Ryan Gosling, whose character's name is Rylan Grace. He wakes up in a sterile white room and he has a robot friend there that he learns is named Carl, but he has no memory of why he is there. But he does find, you know, two mummified corpses next to him, and so that kind of, you know, initially sets the stage of a mystery for the movie, and through a series of flashbacks throughout the movie, he remembers that he was a disgraced molecular biologist who wrote a paper that nobody really agreed with, and then he turned into a middle school teacher and was eventually recruited by Eva Stratt played by Sandra Huler to investigate astrophage and organism draining the son's energy.
1:18:54 And in the present time, Grace realizes he's aboard a spaceship called the hail Mary, a ship powered by enriched astrophage currently in the Tau Seti system, and he uses kind of a series of like mcguyverd experience experiments along the way, assisted by Carl, the robot on the ship, to deduce that he's in another star system and he has to find a cure for the Sun's infection back in the Sol system. So there we go. He kind of learns who he is. Then we meet the alien right so in act too. While scanning the system, he detects another ship which is called the blip A. In a tense first contact sequence, Grace meets Rocky, a five legged alien who looks like a cross between a spider and a rock The movie highlights their communication struggle. Rocky speaks in musical chords which Grace records and runs through a translation software program on his laptop, and with a montage set to upbeat eighties music, the two become science bro They move their ships together, they create a shared pressurization tunnel, and they eventually visit each other's ships. Grace learns that Rocky is the last survivor of a crew from his ship, much in the same way that he is a survivor the last survivor from his crew, and together they discover the tau Meba, a predator that will eat the astrophage. Eventually, the film turns into a high
1:20:27 stakes laboratory thriller as they breed a strain of tau Miba that they can survive the nitrogen heavy environments of Venus and Rocky's planet, which is called Arid Awesome. In the third act, we have they you know, they've kind of like figured it all out, but then unfortunately things start to go wrong. Attention peaks during the tau Miba leak. That's right, both of them have problems with this stuff leaking out of the stores, in which they've put it. Unlike the books, flow realization, a structural failure on the ship leads to a chaotic sequence where the Taumiba escapes into the vents and spins the ship around. Grace and Rocky are physically separated by a clouded zenite barrier, forcing them to work together while blind to one another, to save the ship's fuel supply. During this repair, Grace's final memories return, and in a final flashback, he remembers that he actually didn't volunteer for this mission. He was a coward who tried to hide, and Strap actually forced him onto the ship under sedation. This revelation marks the film's emotional low point, where Grace realizes that he isn't the hero that he thought he was all along. Eventually we move on to the kind of ultimate choice in the movie.
1:21:47 Grace and Rocky successfully prepare their respective cures for the problem. They say tearful goodbyes, heading towards their own home planets, and then Grace discovers a leak in Rocky's Taumobia contained his xenonite right There's this whole concept of solidified xenon gas and it leaks right through, meaning that Rocky ship will fail, his planet will die, and he will starve in the dark, and Grace makes this gut wrenching decision to abort his ship his trip back to Earth. He uses his remaining fuel to instead intercept Rocky and eventually ends up on Rocky's planet. At the end of the movie, which I think is just amazing, we see a montage of snowy London that is repaired at the end of the movie because they sort of save the day, and our heroes left on Arid where he lives within a mental health dome that simulates the Earth, and he's teaching a class of Iridian children, little Rocky creatures who wear small translation packs, which I think is just adorable. The movie ends with Grace looking at a digital display of the Suns, smiling as he realizes he finally became the hero that he was forced to be. So uh fantastic uh movie. This this movie, more than a lot of others that I have seen, actually stays very very true to what happens in the book. I'll say that all
1:23:17 the main scenes are there and that sort of thing. So I'm very excited about that, and I would love to hear what. You all have to say, well, what I have to say about that movie Rocky Amaze, Amaze Amaze. I did not, Yeah, right, I was not. I did not expect to get pulled into that's crazy as quickly and deeply as I did. So much so that when you know, there's that that jump scare when Rocky uh you know, sees when he you know, they face each other, yeah, knocks on the window and and and uh Grace jumps back. And also that the whole can we acknowledge the hail Mary and his last name is Grace, you know, Hail Mary full of grace.
1:24:04 Yep, I know, uh. Huh, but just an amazing, amazing I never thought I would be so invested in. A rock creature. And I although. Uncle Jim asked me, you know, if I if I cried, it's like because there's that scene, and I was. I actually did not because I hate crying because once I start, I can't stop. And I somehow. Went had a flashback to Et when you know, we thought Et was gone but then he got, you. Know, resurrected, what have you. But I started looking.
1:24:48 On YouTube and found all these videos that have a little bit of the background because the science things were you know, trying to trying to comprehend because I know that Andy Weir does a lot of research and wants to have things that are you know, you know, not some hokey made up stuff, but one of them. It was just fascinating. And also the creation of you know, how they did Rocky. He was not CGI, he was a puppet and the story of how Rocky came to be because the main puppeteer, James Ortiz, actually he and Ryan Gosling started riffing together and that's how he became Rocky's voice. And if you uh, I saw an interview with with James Ortiz, and can I.
1:25:38 Say you got to look it up. His hair puts Anson Mount's hair to shame, as you know Pike in the Strange New World to get to check it out. He's got the most fabulous hair. But he just put so much life and heart into into Rocky and just the whole thing real these because Rocky was a scientists too and they have similar situations. But I just I need to. Watch it again because there's so many things that you know, I'm sure I missed, But the biggest thing I don't know that Andy were specifically designed Arid to orbit the same real world star system as another planet that we are familiar with, and that would be the planet Vulcan.
1:26:31 Did you know that? Yeah, I thought that was uh huh, yep, yep, and it was so I thought that was that just shows the the depth of his commitment. So yeah, I just I I'm going to watch it again. This is going to be I haven't been so excited for a movie in such a long time, so this is one I want to see several times, so I plan to do that. I know I'm sort of babbling, but basically, if you haven't seen it, go see it. It is a definite. Ten in my book because it's you've got all the emotions. I mean, you've got fear and love and you know everything in between, and yeah, just go see It's it's a ten in my book.
1:27:26 Well, I got to tell you that after seeing the trailer, I had no interest in seeing this movie. I honestly didn't. I never read the book. I had no idea. But I came home from work on that Friday and my wife said, let's go see this new sci fi movie. And when my wife wants to go see a sci fi movie, jump in the car and go. I mean, remember I made her sit through Tron on our first date. So so we went to see it and all, my god, I just wow, this movie was incredible. Even my wife loved it and she didn't like Tron or Star Trek five, so you know, I loved it. I think everything that V said is absolutely true. It reminded me of Dharmat.
1:28:16 You know, Picar trying to communicate with h you know, Tanagra with his arms held why, watching them try to communicate, watching them build a friendship. It was it was. It was Star Trek at the core, absolutely Star Trek all the way and uh, you really got the feel for Rockie. You know that. I don't. I don't want to ruin too much of it because I know Charles hasn't seen it. But the scene that VA is alluding to, uh just had me. I was like, oh my god, no, this can't be happening. And later in the movie, you know, the situation is quipped and Ryan Gosley does the same thing for Rocky that Rocky did for him. And it's a great movie about friendship and about overcoming differences and communication, and you know, it's an outstanding movie.
1:29:12 I thought it. It started a little bit slow, I felt, and I thought some of the flashbacks were like, wait a minute, what's where? How? Why? What? I think that maybe the movie could have been structured a little bit differently than it was. I didn't read the book, but a lot of people said, well that's how it wasn't the book? All right, fine, but that's minor. I still thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed it and I highly recommend it, and I'm giving it a ten, just like the loved it, loved it, loved it. How about you, David? Yeah, I knows your bump fist, your bump, fist.
1:29:54 Your bump. That was great bump. But yeah, I watched this show and I have to agree with Jim there. It was a little slow at the beginning. And it was of course, you know, any great movie, in my opinion, kind of starts out slow in a way to just you know, build up the tension for the final ending. And to me, it's just like, to me, it was pretty long movie. I mean almost what three hours long? I think awage or two and a half. It's like two six or something.
1:30:36 Or something like that. Yeah, And I was just like, whoa, that's a. It made me really sleepy at the end there, but I was just like, Okay, yeah, it was a really good movie. I actually really enjoyed it. It was a lot of funny parts in it that I enjoyed. The uh the whole part about the him trying to find out who he was after waking up from that coma. I was like, wait a minute, why is that a thing? And then it turns out like what Eric mentioned, they he was forced onto the ship that you find out later that that to me was kind of like the Twist and destroy. That was actually really good. So I actually enjoyed it, and yeah, I don't want to give it too much away, but yeah, a lot of my funny favorite and funny parts, and I enjoyed ways the whole thumbs down.
1:31:28 To bump my fist. The other parts that were just like I'm trying to remember the other one, but it's just like I'm drawing a blank right now. But most of it would kind of like imget in like the whole scene where he's like recording himself and he's like, I now have a new roommate. So it was just like, yeah, that was pretty good, and uh, yeah, so I don't know, I think overall this this particular movie, despite how long it. Was, Wow, not quite wow, that's high praising. I know, oh my god, putting it up there, that's really high raise.
1:32:11 Yeah, I really. Oh yeah. That where he's rolling through, Grace's saying dirty, dirty dirty? Why so dirty? And I wasn't exactly expecting company that was great. Yeah. Yeah, Well, well I. Don't think Charles uh watched it, so that that means that Paul gets to bring up. The caboose, bringing up the tabooza. Well, you know, a great summary on there, So thank you for getting that all out there. I think it's either a great job of giving the details and stuff, but I really want to emphasize you know, you listen to your recap of the movie. Sounds very technical, right if somebody has not seen this movie. I mean it's a very science loaded picture, right, But at the end I would emphasize, like, you know, kind of like I like Uncle Jim's take on it. Right, this is a story about friendship right in a surprising way. And this is a really unique picture in a lot of ways.
1:33:15 It's very structurally it is a literal similar to the Martian where you've got the bulk of the movie is one guy by himself, right, which is a tough thing to pull off in a motion picture, right, because people want to see interactions, and so those flashbacks become really pivotal because it's not just about you know, Ryan Gosling by himself. You're getting to have this gradual reveal of context. I like that structure of a slow burn where things don't just necessarily start off like it's the past and the furious, right, which is like you got to think, you pay attention, and the picture is inviting you to solve the mystery along. With the protagonist. Every think it is just spectacular and this movie really is one of the biggest hits in the last couple of years. It just really resonated with audience. People did not really know this was coming out in a big way until the marketing kicked in, and then marketing will only get you so far, because this is a movie that really just the word of mouth and was just palpable from opening weekend.
1:34:16 Right. It's just people kept going to see this movie, telling their friends to go see it, and they came out feeling good, right, which I think this is a real collective hunger for they came out feeling wonderful, and there was the timing of the release of this movie that just you know, serendipity right, came out within a week or so of the Artemis Mission being such a success. It really galvanized the country's or the planets, really a reawakening of affection for space exploration again. So it was really really great to be able to see that, you know, connect with the real world. The Artemist crew got the screen this picture while they were in quarantine before they left, which was I think a really great thing. So it's a wonderful movie about science and optimism and friendship and you know, in the face of impossible odds, still trying to work things out, which I think is a great message for folks. And it's very funny, very human, very hopeful.
1:35:18 A couple of things I want to make sure to point out for folks. The cinematographer of this wonderful movie is a guy named Greg Frasier, who folks should know. He is a tremendous talent behind the camera. I think he is one of the best guys working right now in terms of being able to compose a shot. So it's almost painterly right. What he does when they're on the outside of the of the ship, when they're going through and trying to, you know, scoop up some of the necessary elements amazing. Where Greg Fraser has done the first two Dune movies. You may have seen those lately, so you know what a visual eye they has done.
1:36:00 He did the bat So he's just one of the best guys shooting out there these days. He's a magical, magical lendsman, He's just tremendous. I love what Ryan Goslingen did in this picture. But for me, I just thought the real MVP of this movie is Sandra hu. I just think she's not somebody I think that we've seen. She's not like a known name. She's not like a really familiar person like you know, uh, Julia Roberts or what have you. Right, She's she's an unknown and she's not an American, and that just somehow lands a real sense of like authenticity to her. You believe that she is this person leading this collective effort, and the things she's required to do are surprising, right, I mean, they're they're ruthless in some ways. I don't want to give away a lot either, but there's a there's a switcheroo that happens that's one of the longest trailers I've ever seen, a practically everything that trailers us, but there's a switch roo that happens in terms of her relationship with Grace where it's like, we need your help, we need your help, and it's an amazing thing. You don't see it coming at all. For me, though, I don't know if anyone's mentioned this already, but the scene with her where she does the karaoke scene, I don't mind admitting it. I was in tears. I was visibly in tears in the theater with that as one of the most moving scenes
1:37:33 I've seen, because she's like representing all of us when we're faced with the fact that there may not be any tomorrows and that things are sad, and she's kind of it's like the end of Kubrick's Paths of Glory, right, It's just a very sad moment told through song. And it was just beautifully beautifully shot. I mean, the directors and her working together put that was just spectacularly to well done. So for me, it all that scene was not in the original script from the movie. Ryan Gosling actually overheard Sandra Huler singing between takes and asked her to perform for the movie just forty eight hours before filming that scene, so they actually added it because Ryan Gosling heard her singing and thought that they needed to add something, and she actually agreed and selected Sign of the Times by Henry Styles as the song that she was going to sing in the movie.
1:38:33 So I'm glad that that's how it worked out because it's an incredible moment. I would encourage folks not to seek it out and if you can see it in the theater and don't watch it beforehand online or something. But she's just amazing, and I hope to see a lot more of her work in other movies is coming up, because she's a hell of a find. I've never seen her before, and I'm sure she's done a lot of other pictures that we just haven't seen that are as commercial, but this is a home run, I mean, And for me, it's just like it was a little long on the in the third act where it felt like, you know, there's one people talk about how the end of Game of Thrones, it's like all of a sudden it was just like, you know, you could get from like you know, the southern tip of West Roast to the wall of a sudden half an episode where it used to take like, you know, three weeks of half a season, And there was kind of that bit at the end of this one too. It's just like, oh, Wed, he's got to go back to the other solar system again. But that's just gonna be au ti minute, so don't worry. And it felt a little accelerated there, but who cares. I mean, it's just I you know, it's not something to get petty or picky on. It's such a triumphant, successful, life affirming movie. I would absolutely have to give it a ten.
1:39:44 I would say, I just do have one burning question though, after watching that trailer again, then I'm I'm I'm gonna feel really stupid because I don't know the answer. But you guys can educate me. Right at the setup at the beginning, when she's explaining, right, all the stars are eminated with the phage, right, do I have that right? All the stars are essentially dyeing. Right, So so we've got our star fixed, and we've got Rocky Star fixed. Yeah, what about all the other stars, I mean, or all the stars. That's that's like protail Mary to. How are you gonna get how are you going to get to all the other stars? Or communicate the fixed? I mean to save the other stars. I don't know, So.
1:40:27 There'll be two stars in the entire universe. I mean, it's it's a cosmic riddle, but it's one of It's an interesting thing that did not even enter my mind s courming out of the theater because I was not such a high from enjoying it so much. That got me which I won't go into detail how it comes about, but one where the one person says you have to find somebody. To be brave for. It's like, oh, that was just such a It's like, oh my god, that was such a gut punch. Mm hmmm.
1:41:09 God. You know, he's just he's ridiculously good looking. Well he didn't he well he looked pretty bad with the long hair and the beard and all. But he manages to make you, yeah he does. But he's just he's with. The way he plays his character. Though he's relatable, he doesn't seem like he's this unreachable guy you could ever be like, right, he's just seems like a regular guy who just happens to be a super nerdy teacher and can't keep right. I mean, and I. Don't know why I would relate to that, but it's a but he's relatable. He's just like right, and he's just like and he's like I love that line of his I put the knot in an astronaut. Right, It's like, this is not me. I I am not a brave person under any circumstances. And he's like, you know, the kind of every man hero in a good Hitchcock picture. Right, It's just you could believe that this could happen, and maybe what happened to somebody like you, and him not knowing who he is for the first half of the movie is a fantastic gimmick. It's just really really great.
1:42:17 So I can't say and a good things about this. I mean, we hear a lot talk these days about you know, oh, you know, the in theater exhibition experiences in jeopardy because of streaming and stuff like that. Right, this is the kind of movie that San Antondoe, Right, you want to see this movie in a theater, right, If you can't, I mean, it's I'm sure it's going to do really great when it's home video at some point. But this is the theatrical experience that will make you want to go back to the movies again and go find it if you can a big format screen like you and i'm ax, and see it in the biggest possible venue you can and just revel in somebody that actually remembers how to make movies the way they used to.
1:42:59 And you'll come out feeling really happy. You did so ten for me, and I'm really excited that we got the review. The music is beautiful. Music is beautiful as well. This is a real pig mm hmm. Well Eric, yeah, good music. I think I don't think Eric gave us a score yet I did. I did not give a score. No, yeah, so I you know, I'm probably probably the one person on the podcast that read the book and I and that's only because I got interested interested maybe two years ago in it or so great book. This is the most as I said, authentic adaptation of a book that I have seen.
1:43:44 It just it has all the main parts. They managed to compress a five hundred page book into two and a half hours in a pretty good way. I mean, like Paul was saying, there were a few scenes that felt a little compressed and a little rushed, but it was already two hours and thirty six minutes, so you don't want to go like too much longer on the movie, right, And the differences between the book and the movie were not substantial, you know, a little bit of so Andy Weir is kind of known for over explaining the science of things. I think v was kind of saying something about that, and he will spend chapters explaining the math of how something works out, or you know, explaining why the Zena Nite actually leaks through the or sorry, not the Zena Night the Taumiba leaks through the xenoite shell of the you know, alien ship, and that kind of stuff.
1:44:44 So if you're into really really nerdy science fiction stuff that is very science y, I would recommend reading the book. Otherwise, this is just a really awesome movie adaptation of a really awesome book. Rocky was adorable. The fact that I can all in love with an alien character that doesn't have a face, I think is a testament to the to the you know, puppeteering skills that we kind of got to see in this show. I thought Ryan Gosling was awesome. I will say that I thought his portrayal of his character early in the movie, when he's just kind of waking up, was a little over goofy. But you know that's all right, Okay, it's like Ryan Gosling, so it's not too overboard, you know, for that sort of character. But like generally speaking, fantastic movie. I really loved it. I'm going to give it a ten because I can't imagine a better adaptation of this awesome book.
1:45:51 All right, all right, so child our Facebook fans gave it a nine point three. How about the Truck's worth. All the truck birds gave it a nine point eight. Wow, that's that's not too shabby. That's pretty shabby. Yeah, pretty good. And now Andy Ware will explain the math of that average. Well, totally, what's the difference to your point three and a point eight? I don't understand. Well, let's take you. I love that stuff, man, I'm so into it.
1:46:31 Great stuff. What a what a picture? You know, really amazing. You'll love it when you see it, Charles, you will love it. It's it's it's such a you know, it's just great to see everybody doing a great job in a movie. Heartfelt, Right, It's like it's a film, like Paul was saying, it's really a like it's science fiction. Yes, it's science y, Yes it has a plot, yes, but it's really about this like unbelievable relationship between two characters that can barely communicate with one another, and how that relationship sort of grows over the course of you know, two hours in. The movie, you know, and think about the subtext of that, right, because it's just like, basically the movie is about, Okay, these two individuals could not be more different or have more of a challenge communicating. Yeah, I can't even communicate.
1:47:23 They don't even you know, exist in the same atmospheres, they don't have the same laws of reality almost yet they work it out. They cooperate absolutely, and they find affection for each other. That is a message that we need right now in this country, right, And I think that is that is one of the reasons I think that audiences will flock through this movie is because it reminds us that we know, we can actually you know, overcome those different things and find a commonality of being together. So, I mean, it's it's like Jim said, that is a star Trek message. And I think that is. To the point Paul important self sacrifice, right like rock out one.
1:48:05 Help the needs of your co star, the needs of the space. I was thinking immediately, what popped into my head? Why does God need a starship? I don't know how my brain made that connection, but it, you know, I don't know, I just it just popped into my head. When he said that, it's like, what is because you know, why is that? Why is this? Sorry? All right, thank you, thank you. It's thank you, It's okay, wed program.
1:48:49 Oh yeah. And also well and they also related over over Maye. You know. You know something to that you wouldn't. Expect mm hm. M hmm. Yeah. Yeah, it's like it's like when you're really surprised, Oh we have something, we have that in common. What it's like, you know, it's you know, surprising, it's it's like, well that whole thing that you know, you're when you find common ground that you weren't expecting to find with something, it's a powerful moment. And I love that idea of having to come up with a word for the concept that you're talking about, and like what you know when he spoiler, So when he talks about his mate's name, right, Like, how do you translate something like that? You have to It has to be based on your understanding of the person you're talking to, of your empathy for them, of the like world that they've sort of built around their persona. So the fact that it was he chooses to translate the name of Rocky's mate to to what he does, I just think is it's just a beautiful moment in the movie.
1:50:15 Somewhere online, I saw somebody somebody is already making the Rocky figures because somebody had one. So yeah, I'd like to see boom done for mhmm you yeah, you can find those one so cool. I can't wait to see what I was. Yes, yes, that's what I was saying. That That's how I knew that James Ortiz has this fantastic. Hair like like this. It puts U puts a Pike's hair to shame, it really does, I know? Yes, Yes, that's where I saw Just like they'll have, like.
1:51:00 The ending explained, they have. Just just google it or just search for it and you will find a bunch of interviews with with Andy Wear and you know all the folks, and you see the puppeteering. So yeah, it's really cool. Mm hmm. Themes up. Yeah, two thumbs up. It's like no, like this good enough, good enough, and. We give it a thumbs up. I'm sorry, Oops, I forgot that. We didn't do that. Hoops.
1:51:43 All right, and with that, it's time to get to our sci five birthdays. That was not a Clinton song. Okay, we do our sci fi birthdays and we always start off I remembering those members of our sci fi family s how longer with us? And for that returned to Eric Jim. We have many remembrances this week. The first is actor Barry Rousseau, the actor who appeared twice on Star Trek the original series, first as playing Lieutenant Commander Giato in the first season episode The Devil in the Dark, one of my favorites, and then he went on to play Commander Bob Wesley in the second season episode The Ultimate Computer, another totally awesome episode. Did a lot of TV guest appearances back in the day. Appeared in a feature film called The Man in nineteen seventy two. Barry Russeau, Happy birthday to you, sir, Happy birthday, as well to Donald James Marshall better known simply as Don Marshall, the actor who played Lieutenant Boma in the original series first season episode The Galileo Seven. He's best known for playing Dan
1:53:13 Erickson on Land of the Giants from nineteen sixty eight through nineteen seventy. He's actually an athlete to experienced in football, track, pole vaulting. Yes, that's right, he's a pole vaulter. He actually also appeared in nineteen sixty three starred opposite Michelle Nichols in a CBS movie called Great Getting Up Morning, which aired in nineteen sixty four. He and Nachelle played African American parents preparing their children for the first day of a racially integrated school in America's South, which I think is particularly interesting and I love that he got to act with Michelle Nichols. So happy birthday to Don Marshall.
1:54:00 Happy birthday as well to Lance Legault, the actor who appeared as Katmak in the Next Generation second season episode The Emissary a Klingon. He's probably best known for his recurring role as Colonel Decker on the television series The A Team, which I saw every single episode of as a kid. I love The A Team. It was literally one of my favorite shows. I'm so excited about the ad and Lance Glatt was an instrumental part of that. He did the voice work for cartoons and video games along the way, and was the narrator of the tour for Elvis Presley's Graceland, like the audio tour little recorder thing that you pick up, because he was a really, really good friend of Elvis Presley. So if you I don't know if it's to this day, but for a very long time his voice was the one that you would hear when you went to Graceland and did the the audio tour thing. So happy birthday to Lance. Happy birthday as well to John Nevill, an extremely accomplished British actor who appeared as Isaac Newton in the Next Generation six season episode Dissent. Best known for playing two roles Terry Gilliams surreal comic fantasy The Adventures of Baron Munchausen and the title role obviously, and for his recurring role as well manicured Man on The X Files. While you see that on the screen here. A classically trained actor,
1:55:34 he's portrayed John Holmes twice in British film of course, that being an Oscar wild character, lots of theater, lots of television, reoccurring roles on several Canadian television series. John Neville Lost back in twenty eleven. Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday as well to Theodore mir Bikeel, the actor who portrayed Sarah gay Rushenko in the next Juration four season episode Family. We're talking about Worf's dad. That's right. He's a versatile character actor born in Vienna, Austria, a master of languages, dialects, and accents, often portraying ethnic roles such as a German officer and a Serbian king. Outside of Star Trek, he's probably best known for his Oscar nominated performance as Sheriff Max Mueller in the classic nineteen fifty eight film The Defiant Ones. Bickel made guest appearances on myriad television shows, including Babylon five Back in the Day, and he actually portrayed Henry Kissinger once in the nineteen eighty nine Watergate TV movie The Final Days. Fantastic performance.
1:56:47 So thank you Theodor Mira Bikel for your Star Trek and other contributions. Happy Birthday as well to Gene Ball, one of the two actresses who played Nancy Krater in the TOS first season episode The Man Trap. She was born in Chicago grew up in California. Best known for her co starring role as vice principal and Gen as Vice Principal Jean Pagano in the first season of the high school drama Mister Novak from nineteen sixty three to nineteen sixty four. Unfortunately, we lost Gene a little too early when she was only sixty seven due to breast cancer four days before her sixty eighth birthday. So happy birthday to Jean Ball. Happy birthday as well to Mary Carver.
1:57:37 The actress who appeared as Nadette and Bernadette Fuller in the Star Trek Enterprise first season episode Terra Nova, part of an awesome series of Star Trek Enterprise episodes. She may be best known for playing Cecilia Simone, the mother to the title stars of the CBS television series Simon and Simon from nineteen eighty one to nineteen nine. And I think that was just a show that my family wants an awful lot of. I feel like I probably saw every episode of Simon and Simon at some point. In addition to being you know, an actor, who just had a very storied resume over almost seventy years. She taught within the theater department of the University of Southern California and received the nineteen eighty six Drama Logue Award for Outstanding Performance for the stage play A Christmas Memory, So Mary Carver Television Stage all over the Place Lost back in twenty thirteen, Happy birthday to her eighty nine years old one we lost her. And last, but not least, let's say Happy Birthday to Billy Quinn, the actor who appeared as David McCoy, that's right, father of the great McCoy in Star Trek five, The Final Frontier, Jim's favorite movie.
1:58:57 Quinn is best known for his roles on television series. He was Sweeney the Bartender on The Rifleman. He was Doctor Melnitz on The Odd Couple. He was mister van Ressenlaar on The on All in the Family and its spinoff series Archie Bunker's Place. And he appeared in nineteen sixty two's Advice and Consent and in Alfred Hitchcock's nineteen sixty three classic The Birds, a really, really creepy movie. He made all kinds of movies, along the way, including Star Trek five. We lost him all the way back in nineteen ninety four at the age of eighty one years old. Happy Birthday to Billy Quinn yees Ma. That does it for our remembrances, So I will pass the flaming birthday candle on the v if we have anytime.
1:59:50 All right, and apologies, I meant to look up how to pronounce this last name for my first. Happy Birthday to Joe Peng Gay anyway, He's an actor who played Data No in Star Trek's Section thirty one. So next, Happy Birthday to Brian Tochi, who played the role of Ray Singh Tao in TuS third season episode And the Children Shall Lead and Lynn and Tng fourth season episode Night Terrors. And this is where I know him because I love this movie. Well known for his role as Toshiro Takashi in Revenge of the Nerds and the movie Teenage Mutant Turtles as the voice of Leonardo. Next, a very happy birthday goes to the one and only Mark Alaimo.
2:00:49 He played the notorious gold du Kat in Star Trek Deep Space nine and he has the honor playing one of the first two Romulans seen in the te He and g Era, as well as the first Cardassian seen in the Star Trek Saga and a Badar and the little dogfaced guy TNG Lonely among Us, and if I'm not mistaken, he was also in Times Arrow. He was a card player, but he was a regular human in that. So anyway, next. Happy Birthday goes to man with fantastic eyebrows. If you've ever seen him do the eyebrow thing, he's correct, and he's oh and he's also he is you know, it's kind of random. He's a fantastic girl dad. So I've seen videos of him allowing his.
2:01:47 Up on him, so he's awesome. But of course most people know him as the Rock. He's an actor and a professional former professional wrestler who played the Pandari Champion in Star Trek Voyager sixth season episode Soon Katzi, where he was working with seven of nine. That was a that was an interesting episode. Next, Happy Birthday to Melinda Kolia. She's the actress and formal former model who played Soren in the TNNG fifth season episode The Outcast. A very that was one of my favorites, Very deep and a very you know, big important message in that.
2:02:38 Mm hmm, yeah, the I I do at a camp in the summer, a reading of Star Trek scripts and we oh yeahkspt it really really is. Oh my gosh. Next, another of that episode that's my favorite, watched it today, happen to be on Leslie Hope. She's a Canadian actress and director who played Kira Maru in DS nine six season episode Wrongs Darker than Death or Night. She was Kiara Nourice's mother. Just a wonderful actress. She also directed the strange New World's first season episode Ghosts of Aleyria. Next, Happy Birthday goes to Alan Dale and he's the actor who played Pray tour Heron in Star Trek Nemesis. He hails from New Zealand and he's and he's most noted for playing Jim Robinson in Neighbors and then, last but not least, Greg Lee Henry, actor and musician from Lakewood, Colorado, who played Gallatin in Star Trek Insurrection and Zoe Kahn in the Enterprise second season episode Dawn. All Right, so now I fling or flap the birthday candle over to Paul Flap PLoP PLoP.
2:04:21 You just fling and flap to your heart's content, my friend. Thank you so much. Thank you. So we are Yes, we're Star Trek, but we're also Star Trek and beyond. So we talk about people who. Aren't just in Star Trek, as we've proven with our movie review tonight. So first of all, DC fans give it up for Gal Gadot, Israeli actress who. Gained recognition portraying. Wonder Woman in all of those DC extended Uterus films. In twenty eighteen, she was named one of Time's Time magazine that is one hundred most influential people and ranked by Forbes is the tenth highest paid actress. Oh the first Israeli actor to receive a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame twenty twenty five. Will we see her as Wonder Woman again? I don't know. Things are always uncertain over there in the DC universe. Surprises that happened all the time. Happy going back to Star Trek for a moment. Happy birthday to the awesome Santiago Cabrera Venezuela and born Chilean British actor who played Crystal bal Rios in the first and second season episodes of Picard, and he just I think was great. He was a bright spot of those first two seasons for me, very charismatic.
2:05:34 He's born in ven Venezuela, where his father, at Chilean diplomat served at the time, and later lived in England, Romania, Canada and Spain. I hope we get to see him again. I would like to see the character come back to some capacity. It's very I'm just overwhelmed and gushion to be able to wish a happy birthday to the great the legendary Lance Henrickson, actor, best known for his roles in various science fiction, action and horrors, including his memorable turn as the synthetic I prefer the term artificial persons in the Alien franchise, most notably in Aliens. For Jim Santon, who frequently collaborates with and in the X File spin off A Millennium, he played the main character in that show, Frank Black, which is very cool. He's done a ton of voice work, the Disney picture Tarzan, Call of Duty.
2:06:34 He's just been in tons of tons of great pictures, the great horror picture Pumpkinhead from the eighties, The Right Stuff, which is one of the best movies about space exploration, you'll ever see him dying for that to come out on four K. And he was also really memorable in the Terminator with Jim Cameron as well. An interesting fact when you look at the early production designs for the Terminator, Jim Cameron intended for Lance Hendrickson to be the Terminator, right. That was initially the idea that he could just sort of portray this sort of emotionless, impassive looking cold killer. Right, But then they discover an Arnold and things kind of changed and they reconceptualize things. So Lance Hendrickson got the job of the main cop, the detective trying to solve the Seric Aer murders. So really really cool. He's just been lots of great things.
2:07:28 Though I'm. Stone cold hard target, lots of great stuff. We've got a three Golden Globe Awards for his role in Millennium and won a Saturn for his work and Target, So huge fan. This guy's just great. They'll always be Bishop the whole bit with a knife thing, and this is just awesome. Is a terrific performer. Happy birthday to Richard Cox, actor from New York City, New York, played the role of Kyrol Finn in Next Generation's third season episode The high Ground another legends. We get our legends every now and then, folks, so I'm happy to give it up and say a very happy birthday to John Rice Davies, who we are from. Star Trek is playing the holographic recreation of Leonardo da Vinci Leonardo da Vinci and Voyager's third and fourth season episode Scorpion and Concerning Flight, where he is the Da Vinci incarnation that is kind of the sounding board for Katherine Jane Waye to pitch her ideas off of an expressor conundrum. So a wonderful performance, of course. He's also best known for his turn throughout the Lord of the Rings movies, is playing Gimli the Dwarf, who is just so fantastic in those pictures there and in the end the Indiana Jones movies he played Sola India I'm so pleased You're not dead, and Professor Maximilian Arturo in the television series Sliders. But this guy, I've
2:09:00 I've had the pleasure to meet him. I sure hope too. But man, is he ever nice to the fans at conventions. He'll just get up and say anything and do whatever picture he's just a real gent and extremely charismatic and we is a living legend. I mean, my goodness, I just want to sit down and watch all the Lord of the Rings of movies, just seeing his mug up there, so he's just the great. Happy birthday to you, sir, long may you wave, and happy birthday to Rashad Bezade Kamal, often credited as John Rashad Kamal, an actor, has made his film debut as Commander Soon in Star Trek Emotion Picture, the great great grandson of Sultan man At five of the Ottoman Empire. Wow, that is quite a legacy to be able to hang on to there, sir. So that's pretty amazing. So again, anytime I see a reference for Star Trek Emotion Picture, I kind of want to go watch it again because I think it's one of those movies that I just enjoy more every time I see it's it's aging well, like a fine bottle of wine.
2:10:04 And I am looking forward to going and seeing Commander Sonak again next time I see that, And I think that's all I've got on my list. But you know what birthdays, they are just out there. You know who's gonna show up and I'm willing to bet a week's pet, but Uncle Jim still has one more or two birthdays potentially up his sleeve. Am I crazy? Uncle Jim? Don't answer that, well, I don't have to do. Yeah. I love that he was dead so he gave him the eric. I would have been more than happy to do it.
2:10:45 You know, I got to say that he was dead, so I threw. I do want to say that that that scene between McCoy and him and Start five is one of the reasons that cements that movie is one of my favous because the forest Kelly just nailed that scene completely. It's just it's one of the best scenes I've seen in any Star Trek is that death scene. Anyway, back to my birthdays, I want to say happy birthday to Ron Canada. He appeared as in TG's fifth season episode Masterpiece of Society. He appeared as Chopo the Klingon in d S nine's fourth season episode Rules of Engagement, and he appeared as Feznek and Voyager's fifth season episode The Juggernaut.
2:11:37 Three great episodes, three great characters, But wait, there's more. You always saved the best for last, right and uh, you know it's definitely been a long road getting from there to here, and she made flap her arms around a lot. But we definitely have to wish a very very happy birthday. Thank you so much. Thank you. Yeah, and I yeah, David asked for a picture, and that's my favorite picture. I think. Yeah, that was you know, looks like you know, that was just epic. But anyway, but thank you all so much. Yeah, it was. It was last Friday.
2:12:18 I did absolutely nothing for it, but that's okay because you know I'm here this week. So yes I did. Which was that was wonderful, so many, so many, so much fun, so much fun. Almost I think it'll be I have to look on I think it was. It was like the end of May that I started, which I know that's wild and something that I tried to I thought, should I do it? Nah, and then I didn't. And then you know, anyway, good yay much to.
2:12:59 My to mm hmm. And then you did, ye. Teerv When we were talking online, I right away I said, she's the one, but I gotta talk. I gotta talk to her. I gotta hear your voice. I got to see how we know, how we play In the minute. You and I talk, Thank you, thank you. It's just been so much fun. And I know I'm not the perfect pod you know, podcast host s, hostess or whatever the heck I am, but I'm learning and I just have so much fun with you all and learning new words and you know, flapping my arms and all that. So thank you for being for yes, I know, thank you for just being the bright spot in my life. So I really appreciate you all.
2:13:56 All Right, enough with the mush. As one does, mm hmmm. Mm hmmm, yes, yes, no, it just gets better with age. It is also not a prerequisite for participating in this podcast. Yes, let's just say that. Well, guys, that our podcast for this week. I hope you enjoyed our discussion on Hail Mary and our rather heavy.
2:14:39 Shatner news that we had this week. And make sure that you your avocado host with a twist of honey, not too crispy, you know, make sure you prepare it the Shatner way. Boldie locks level of crispy. Don't be a nuclear missie for everybody like you got a good time with it. I just want to say thank you so much to Pa for recommending him many and for joining us tonight. Thank you. I love it when there's something that people get all excited about, and I love it when the movie comes out that sort of pushes the collective, you know, society's love for science fiction a little farther out there.
2:15:21 Right. More people will get turned onto science fiction because of a movie like this, and especially young folks growing up right who maybe they didn't think sci fi was for them before, right, and then they see this movie, like, oh, what other sci fi is out there? And they'll end up discovering Star Trek and a lot of other things. So it's a lot of good comes from a successful movie. Good. It was fun to talk about it as well, And thank you so much to v for joining us. And once again let me just say happy birthday, and of course thank you to Eric. We're hanging out and slept talking with us tonight. Thank you so much, Eric, good.
2:16:02 Bet, Thanks guys, and thank you. Child although you haven't had the opportunity see him Mary yet and I hope we didn't ruin the movie for you too much, but thank you so much for joining us tonight. Oh always fun, and. Of course thank you to David for all these awesome videos which you guys can watch if. We need a T shirt with. Thank you so much, David. Yeah, guys, you are welcome. Fished my bump, I know, which obviously was a reference to alien right. That was funny.
2:16:43 I'm just I'm just quads growing on me and not in me. Yeah. Yeah, of course, I'm your most uncle Jim saying, live on and prosper and start for fans of the best fans. Please, everybody be good to each other. Good night, good night, live long and prosper. Let's fly No
