0:15 They say, and again it's gone insane. Logan six Corporal hes that Jim had done it a fixed pripple NPC ted heavily cannot see Bumblebee. Kane, I'm the doctor Rankling online. Old Bob sand World stories that will Kisting turn Bow to Cimitar, death of Tashi Yah Flash Gordon. But progs don't through prison clone Wars. James Holden tweaky, John Cone against. Yankee about the series, about the series now.
1:26 Outstanding. David, I gotta say, hey, guys, welcome to Trek Talking and Beyond. It's Thursday, May second, twenty twenty five. Welcome to episode six and thirty seven. For those of you who are watching, well you're listening. You heard our brand new theme song and Eric recorded that. Thank you so much. Eric. Yeah, and David made up the video. And when I asked David to make the video up, he says, I don't know if I can get it done by tomorrow's show. And David and I sat down yesterday what thirty ish. Took us a couple of hours to go through all the pictures and set it. Up, get the timing right, get all the pictures from all the various shows. And put it all together, and I got to say, I think it came out damn good, damn good. I like it. What do you guys think you like it?
2:18 Oh? I was very surprised. Yeah, delightful and nice schmortgage board of references that we don't normally got right. Yeah, lovely to have the John Coney reference. Yeah, since I've been watching nine, I had to get that in there. Tried to get as much in there as we could squeeze it in. If we ever get stuck there's a there's a show theme, we could have a space nineteen ninety nine. Oh my, oh, absolutely, I'd be all over it. Absolutely. So we're talking about our new theme song here. So before we get too far though, I want to introduce my awesome Treksperts. Of course, i'my most excellent host, Uncle Jim. Welcome to the podcast. And out in Portland we have Eric. Eric is the one who recorded our awesome new theme. So welcome to the podcast.
3:01 Eric. How are you doing tonight? I am doing pretty good, pretty good. Excited to talk about some and or tonight some good TV. Man excellent and also for Portland, we are the toy guy himself, Paul how you doing tonight, Paul. I'm good. I'm good. Let me prove my credit, because it's important that it's not just words, right, we stand behind what we espouse, right. So I'm doing okay. Man. There's been not a lot of toy in flux in my world this week, but good stuff going on, good stuff going on. I have to trumpet my own horn. I finished writing another book this week, So yet another unpublished book, now I can. We're looking for some other poorche leap out there to terrifying with query letters saying would you like to publish this wonderful, you know, series of nonsense. But it's a good feeling to take a book all the way through to the end and tell the whole story. So I'm kind of feeling excited about that.
4:08 Little tired, but it's kind of like taking an idea for a podcast and blossoming into this kind of the same thing. Idea to fruition right, exactly exactly. And also from Portland, we have a very old miracle worker David, who put together that awesome video that we just watched, and he's got some surprises playing for tonight's show. How you doing tonight? How you doing? David? You're having a good time. Yeah, I'm pretty tired. It's been pretty much all day trying to get all this stuff together, so it's pretty good. I'm excited to talk about end Or and see what you guys think about. And not from Portland. Because you can see the palm trees swaying. We have a very own Charles. Charles's out in Las Vegas. How you doing tonight, Charles, I'm doing all right.
4:55 Yes, the palm trees are swaying. They're doing a little extra swaying because it is reay today and the weather forecasts like, okay, is it going to be ninety nine or one hundred nine nine or one hundred not positive. I think it hit ninety nine. But it's summertime. Yeah, you think it's springtime, but it's actually summer. We got some snow up here in Vermont, so how's that. It was cold, great and rainy. You get anywhere near ogit'll melt and turn into a light rain. And that's it.
5:36 Wow, we'll take while. I'm sick of the rain. 8:44 So how about you get us started with our fans shout outs, Eric. I would love to our first fan shout out this week goes out to the great country of Australia in the wonderful city of Adelaide, and we are saying hello to Leoni Radford, one of our top and try. That means that Leoni interacts with us a lot on our Facebook page, and we really appreciate that because, you know, helps us understand the people love us. So thank you so much for saying hello to us, and I hope you are having a great time with other Star Trek fans down in Adelaide. Also saying hello this week to Jens Kisling, a rising contributor, meaning that they are new to our page, but they're coming on strong. And Yen's is saying hello to us from Saxony in Germany, the great country of Germany. And you've got that awesome as set in your last name. I love that King so German.
9:38 Thanks Yen's for saying hello to us this week. I'm gonna spin it back to that other side of the globe and say hello this week to Vanessa Madsen, who is hailing up from New Zealand. New Zealand is one place that I would love to go. I fell in love with it like many people did during those Lord of the Rings movies, those wonderful Peter Jackson movies, and I never wanted to go to New Zealand before, and now I do, so Vanessa you probably get to enjoy that on a regular basis and consider yourself a lucky person. Thanks for loving us, and thanks for loving Star Trek. Last, but not least, on my list, saying hello this week to Melanie Furster, who is also from Germany in the wonderful city of Carlsru Charles. Who would you like to say hello to this week?
10:23 Uh? Karl does not here right now? Should I take over? Absolutely? All right? Well, he would love to wish everybody. Uh, you know, thanks for watching, thanks for listening, thanks for enjoying the stream. Uh, folks, we want to say hello and uh to Heather Babby from Council Bluffed, Iowa. Originally now I live in rapid shitty South Dakota giving us a little blue simple mine in faish. I can't really tell what that is. It's a smiley fa with hearts around it. Okay, cool? Uh.
11:03 Next on the list is an All Star contributor, Deva and Smith. She's hailing from Tacoma, Washington, giving us a green US A flag. I'm assuming that's what that is. It is not green. It is red, white and blue. For some reason. On Okay, it's not green. I might be blind, but anyhoy, I guess yeah, Okay. Next on the list is Nancy Lucia Lopez from Albuquerque, New Mexico.
11:46 Thanks for listening. And last on Child's list is an all star contributor, uh Rachel d. Stay from West Jordan, Utah, giving us three non Green American flag. I just want to put out there, okay, uh en for my list, I am gonna say welcome and thanks for listening to Mark. Oh No, this is a rising contributor, Mark Ferginshon from Olympia, Washington. Uh. Next on my list is Michael Howard from Roy, Utah. Thanks for listening and I hope you guys are having a wonderful time. And uh.
12:28 Next would be Jamie L. Hare from Truecon, Arizona. And on my last part of the list is a normal guys from Austin, Texas. I hope you guys all enjoy what you see. And Paul, who's on your list? Well, no, David, I really liked you had a real shining moment there when you were talking about Charles for a minute. You're like, Charles is not here right now, this is Torrents. Charles has gone away. Okay, it's gonna be one of those podcasts does it. Sweet?
13:11 And then we lose a bit. It's just you know, like Agatha Christie story, So it's just crazy. Yeah, you know Rising contributor who came up with that one? Right? That's is that a base? I think we know who did. Yeah, it was meta. Because it's like one of those things like if you got that on your work evaluation, you'd spit in your boss's coffee. Right, I'm a rhysing contributor. I mean, it just means that. They just joined fresh and instead of just being passive about their engagement with our page, they're actually like they're liking things and their comments. So I think that's I mean, the idea is that you go and they acknowledge your risingness so that you can eventually get to things like all Star.
13:57 And I'm a rising contributor. And many you know, I don't even know. It basically means nothing. That is when it comes down to. Saying, it's kind of motivation, right if I keep. Hanging for meta, but that would. Be my superstar. Okay, I just need to explore this in Charles's absence, but you know, I don't know anyway, Sorry, I digressed, let me keep going. Sorry, yes, I also have some fans I'd like to say hello too as well. I don't think any of the rising contributors, though some of them are spectacular. Uh you know, effucifiers, That's what I've got on my list right, like the phenomenal.
14:42 Fire like that. Chuck Off and the fusifier quickly like Alexandro Picterrello right from Campina City and so Pello Brazil. Okay, and Alexandro is just shooting so many like hand sign emojis at me. I'm afraid I might, you know, get pulled over. I mean, it's just amazing. He's got so many here from Campinas City in Brazil. That's a country I've always wanted to go to. How about you, Amurrica Brazil spectacular. Yeah, I think there's a lot to do, a lot to see. Amazing people so excited to go there. Uh, let's cross the ocean and go over to h XE not Shah flag proudly displayed there from the United States of Israel.
15:26 I've not heard it called that before. That's cool. I like, that's very interesting. Is that the official name. I've not heard it referred. To as ID that either. The United States of Israel that's new for me. But you know, things change so quickly these days, friends, I can barely keep up. So it is just it is just crazy of America. I don't know it's recording now apparently what is going on here? Stop two questions? I could to do the show. Anyhow, We have other fellows now, Yes, we are continue this out.
16:10 Questions. Jim keeps just you know, asking questions. It's like, is my serial running or is the light of God? Anyway? I think we determined that X not is messing with us, right. So we're gonna say, we're gonna go over to somebody who is designated. Top fan. Thank you. That is another tier man. That is a nice level of promotion to this company. You can acclade. Okay, you're a top fan. Top fan. Rachel car has got an actual Irish flag there from Dublin, Ireland, So thank you, Rachel Carr, top fan. You can tell Rachel is watching a lot of television, watching a lot of Star Trek. Has got many many physical media in her house, watches whatever the equivalent of Paramount plus is in Dublin. I don't know, but I can bet you Rachel is watching it because she's a top fan. Right, So there you go, so cool. Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm for Startrek and this podcast with us, Rachel. And then if you are willing to go on a long ocean voyage, you can go to Malayia where Lester saw Ye Shong is flipping us the Livelong and prosper sign there from Malaysia. So once again, friends, proof that at this crazy time we find ourselves in we have a fellow like minded Star Trek enthusiasts all over the planet.
17:36 So hopefully if we can find unity there, we can find unity elsewhere. That is what I'm going to hope for. And now, hoping he's found his remote control and other important devices, I'm going to pass this over Uncle Jim. Oh. I don't know, Paul. I think there's some gremlins sneaking around here. This is this is weird, what a weird night. It's not Leah because Leia is not chasing an and around, so it's not it's not the cat and the dog. Although Leyah is here there she is all right. So I want to say thank you to Martin Crane who's listening to us in New York, New York. Big Apple, the Apple that Never sleeps. Thank you. We also want to say hello and thank you to Janice will Cox, who's listening to us in Los Angeles, California.
18:22 Us of a not a top fan or a rising contributor or a falling fan or any of the above. So but that's okay, We we appreciate it. We also want to say hello and thank you to Paul James Temple, who flashes us to live long and prosper right back at you, buddy, who's listening to us in Waynesboro, Virginia. And last, but not least on my list, we want to say hello and thank you to Larry Stadler who's in Calgary, Alberta anywhere near GM Chris possibly. No, GM Cress is not in Alberta. He's in He's in Quebec, Quebec. All right. So, if you guys noticed all these great pictures going by, uh, if you want to become a top contributor or a rising star, maybe you can go over to our Facebook page and link over to trek Talking dot com and send us your pictures and David will put them right there on the screen where all these other awesome pictures are like my wedding picture right there with Carl Strakan. Your picture could be right there as well. All right, guys, that wraps up.
19:33 Sorry we're spoirling tonight. Jim, we're gonna keep interrupting. That wraps up our our fans shout outs. Now it's time for our Star Trek polls. You know me like no win what you thought about the show? Then we try to share your opinions with love our minions out there because. They listen WORLDWI, So. Tell us just what you think. Get together we will all t Canara and robylin A.
20:16 All right, guys, while you're over on our Facebook page, I try to come up with interesting ethical questions, sometimes just a fun question. You never know. You can go over there and you can vote in our Star Trek poll so that your voice can be heard. And Charles not Charles, David dude, whoever you are. Yeah, you you should. You should make sure you don't call David by his name the first time at all tonight, Just like call him everybody else first and then get to David. I think that'd be hilarious. All right, Okay, okay, Larry, is there sound? I don't hear any sound? Hello?
20:57 When when Paul? When Paul and I tested it here. Let's do a bad lip reading up. With all of these things like anyone she loading, She went to, do you guys not. Have toun no sound? No sound? What she's doing? Allry about that guy? Okay, this is a quirky night. Apparently I was looking forward to reading. You know. Dang, it had sound when we tested it, though it won't. Let me replay it. Here we go. One too, is that the. McKee will be attacking the convoy ass plant. Our ships have taken opposition in the Huga Negula to wait. For I've established a relay lank with the sensor probe we left on the parameter of the Nebula.
21:40 This is the convoy. We were expecting the McKee attack force to cross the border from the de militarized. So as soon as they crossed the border would intercept them. Captain in order to ensure that the ship commander Riker and litenant Roarer piloting does not come into fire. I have really their warp signature for the rest of the attack force. So the McKee squadron is coming into censor range Scuda redulett by. Sir squad leading goal ships. Go ahead squad leader, We'll be crossing the border in less than one minute. Army weapons acknowledge startlingly. Can't make us move until we're out of the deep village, riss where to break formation?
22:24 Take cover in the nebula. As soon as they appear, the ships. And the convoy are raising their shields, and they spotted us. Across the border in thirty seconds. What I'm sorry. I can't let this happen, sir. The vessel being piloted by Lieutenant Row is firing a low intentionally. Particle give into the nebula. What the hell is she doing? The polarizing effect being created by the being may make it possible. For us detected. Can you come to the effect. I will attempt to do so.
23:05 Bro, Why are you firing? Scan? The nebula is a story fleet attack force hiding inside it. I see it. Squad lead into all ships aboard the mission repeats aboard the mission, sir. The the key ships are breaking formation if they crossed the border. No, Sir, they're withdrawing. Captain Lieutenant roast ship is not retreating with the others. It is heading towards us. When she comes aboard. Take it into custody. Alpha seven to Alpha nine. Go ahead, stand by to beam your board standing by.
23:50 You can take the ship back to the Enterprise. You're going with them. It's been a long time since I really felt like I belonged somewhere. Could you tell Captain McCard something from me? Of course? What is it? I'm sorry? So long? No, take care of yourself, Come on, energize.
24:38 All right, there you have it? So, uh, David, what's our poll question? Brother? That? I well, so, I well, I'll talk about context after I asked this question and get our results here. So in the TG episode this preemptive strike, of course, Rolerin betrays Captain Picard, does she really? That's the way the questions worded, and joins the Makey. Do you agree with her decision? Fifty percent of our responders agree with her decision of fifty percent of our responders disagree with her position on that. So you'll you'll remember that this is the episode where Picard sends Rolaren undercover as a Mackie, you know, a interested person because the Makey believes that the Kardassians are developing biogenic weapons which are really really nasty, And you got this is like, I love this episode I believe this is this is season seven, right, This is like towards the end of season seven, and so to me, this is like one of those episodes that literally leads right into DS nine. I don't know if they planned it that way or not, but it sure feels like it to me. And so there's a lot of baggage. Rolaren's got a lot of baggage from the occupation and all that sort of stuff. And this is even before we start liaising with the Cardassians to take over the station and Deep Space nine is established and all that sort of stuff. So she we already know she's an independent soul. We already know from this clip
26:09 actually that she feels really bad about betraying Picard, but that she is following her own heart in you know, doing what she thinks is the is the correct thing to do. So I don't know if I necessarily agree with her decision to betray Picard and to sort of go over to the other side. But we've talked in the past before about how the Maquis, in my opinion, have some some legitimacy given what they're trying to accomplish and stuff. Are they always perfect? No, Calvin Hudson, you know, doesn't always steer them in the correct direction. But I think she had the right to make this decision. And this is a bloodless thing, right, Nobody gets hurt. The only thing that happens is that Picard doesn't catch the Maquis people that he wanted to catch, so, you know, he didn't get to put some people in jail. That's the consequence of this, and he loses her a laran as an officer. So I kind of agree with her to I think it's okay. I think it's okay. She made the decision. It is complicated, though, and I like that it's split right down the middle fifty to fifty here.
27:13 Have we ever had a fifty to fifty pole before? I think we've had We've had him. Pretty pretty close, but not exactly split down the middle like this. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So what do you guys think about this one? What do I love this? I mean, I think it's a phenomenal. This is the kind of storytelling on Next Gen I just love the most because it was just so against the grain, right, it just was swimming upstream giving you something you didn't expect, right, And what it's great because Rosa character came on comparatively eight in the game, right, and she was from the very get go right. She was like a foil, right, and kind of a you know, you know, she's just a bit of a square peg compared to the regular star for you, Right, she didn't fit in, didn't fit in and tried to. But I just like the fact that they gave that character an arc over a couple of seasons, right, And she was never going to basically, you know, bow down to the authority, right.
28:10 She sort of you know, hung out for a while. She had a gap year with Starfleet, if you will, right, But she's you know, she's just you know, and this question the way it's phrase right, roller betrayed Captain Picard, I would say ro Lerin stood up for what she felt was right. Is the really how I would phrase it, right, because it's all you know, it's a little biasy, right, you know. I mean, I'm sure Pericard thinks that he betrayed her, But she's doing the right thing for her, right, She's doing what matters. She doesn't feel like she's been accepted ever, except now she has right and that matters to her. And she feels like she's you know, we talked a lot about recently about how like, you know, Starfleet and you know that other mocky episode. I think it was Eric right where where the one on Deep Space nine where Starfick was kind of getting a little you know, a ooritarian, you know, and starting to make these you know, blanket decisions for others, you know, without really getting their input and just doing these things. They're kind of almost sort of like walking right up to fascism looking into and she's like, screw that, I'm not going to do that.
29:16 I was. Clips at the end, right, she's about to be mount She's like, she's all emotionals. We tell kept the card something for me and he's like, yes, it's making for her to go fuck you. Would have been awesome, It's what she was thinking. If it was on Paramount Plus today, she would have done that. Not so much. By the way, will your ear ring is just ridiculous, and so are you. It's just, you know, she was just a firebrand, and Michelle Forbes is just I'm a big fan. I just think she's just she's really everything in that scene, right, because she's just so underplaying it when she's at the Rolls was like, yeah, everything fine, noving tine and she's just answering questions. But she's just like holding back and you can see it, and she's just wonderful. It was such a cool Garret, I'll.
30:11 Tell you, Paul, I tried really hard to fit Helena Cane into the lyrics of our I couldn't quite do it. So we've got a couple other Battlestar Galactical references, but I tried to fit her name in there too. Yeah, he's kick ass man, I'm a big fan. Yeah, she's just you know, more more her. So yeah, I'm gonna have to go with the with the yes, all right, just because I just I think she was being true to herself, right, and I think that that's something you always have to try to, you know, appreciate. Charles. You can't see us, but can you hear us? I can hear you. I just can't say, what do. You think you right now? Did she betray.
30:54 I think she portrayed Captain Bercar, but she portrayed in the belief that she was doing what was right for her, and I think the position she was in, she was more worried about what was more important for. Her, it was more important for star Fleet. So you're you're with the first fifty or the second fifty. The first fifty, yeah, I mean the question is with her decision? Yeah, I think it's the first fifty, the first fifty. Okay, well, David, what about you first fifty, second fifty. I'm gonna have to say first fifty on this. I mean, I do remember with everything you guys were talking about, because it did basically about her and the fact that she probably lost her home from when the Federation took her planet that she probably grew up on to the Kardashians, and she probably got all mad and upset about that.
31:45 So you know, yeah, I'm gonna have to go with the yes on this one. All right. Well, I'm going against everybody like I always do, start for five. You know, I think she definitely betrayed Captain Pickcard. That's not the question. The question she betrayed him. The question is do you agree with her decision? And I don't. She betrayed Captain Picard because if you remember, he went to the uh Penal colony where she was and got her freed specifically to go on this mission, or she would have been in prison. So he put his reputation on the line for her, and she turned around and just said hey, like Paul said fuck you and left him hanging dangling in the wind after he stood up for her. So, yeah, I think I'm with the bottom fifty with the you're with the top fifty.
32:35 I'm with the bottom fifty. So we have a fifty to fifty fifty. Yeah. That so it's just there's two fifties fifty, so I'm with the other fifty. All right, So, uh, what do you think? David? You want to roll the No, you're not David, You're Eric. You want to roll the next clip? Eric? I hope we have sound on him. Yes we do. Is the true host here? Yes? Good? Bring him in.
33:15 Doctor. I am Curio. I am to become host to Oddan. The operation to implant Odan into the new host was completed at nineteen hundred hours and appears to have been successful. There were no difficulties in assimilation. Doctor Beverly, could we talk for a moment. Should be sleeping. You need to rest. I've never felt better except once or twice.
34:01 My poor Beverly. This has been so hard for you. I want to thank you for your caring for your standing by me. I congratulate you. You averted a war that would have cost many lives. Yes, it seems as though everything has turned out for the best. And yes, I am still odone and I still love you. I cannot imagine that ever changing. I am glad that you're all right. Is there to be nothing more?
34:53 Perhaps it is a human failing, but we are not accustomed to these kinds of changes. I can't keep up. How long will you have this host? What would the next one be? I can't live with that kind of uncertainty. Perhaps someday our ability to love won't be so limited. I understand, Odn, I do love you.
35:43 Please remember that. I will never forget you. All Right, there it is, take it away, Paul, all right. In the Next Generation episode The Host, which of course was this episode, Doctor Beverly Crusher falls in love with Odan, a Trill mediator, the male version of him, but after he's mortally injured, Odon is transferred to a new female Trill host, and Crusher chooses not to continue the relationship.
36:30 And this is an interesting way that we asked the question would you have done the same thing? So eighty six percent of our responders said absolutely they would have done the same thing. Fourteen percent of our responders said they would not have done the same thing. And so the question is not, you know, did Beverly Crusher do the right thing? The question is would you have done the same thing? And so it's a real personal like way to ask the question, and I think that it has a different flavor for every single person that's out there. I mean, honestly, we have no idea what Beverly found attractive about Odon. Presumably she liked who he was. He also had great hair, you know, had those amazing lumps on his forehead, So of course female Odon also had the amazing lumps. And you remember, in case you're all confused, and you can see the video now, trills look different in next generation than they look at Deep Space nine and from there on. So these are trills, the trills that you're thinking of, they just don't have the spots.
37:32 But yeah, I mean, if the question is would you have done the same thing, I wouldn't have necessarily fallen in love with somebody based on their gender or what they look like. I would have fallen in love with the person, and so I would probably be on the no end of this thing personally, their gender wouldn't really matter to me. I would have loved the person and probably still loved the person. Albeit a big change like that into a new body is something to get used to. And I'm not sure that this episode, especially what Beverly just said, their ages that well, I think that we have updated sensibilities now. And you know she says humans think this way. Well, Beverly, sorry to tell you not all humans think this way.
38:22 She fell in love with a candle and made it with a ghost. Well, I mean, Beverly has got some interesting senses of relationships. But yeah, but for me, the answer here is no. So I'm with the fourteen percent in this one. But I get it. You know, if you're expecting one thing, if you're expecting chocolate and you get vanilla, you might be disappointed. So I don't know, what do you go? What about you, Charles, Well, if you go with the definition. Craik Mayo, Yeah, my camera just popped a straight male a straight female. A straight female might not have a interest in a another female, but she was interested in a male. So I think it's the issue of dealing with the host changing to a different sex but keeping the personality. Even uh, even Cisco had issues dealing with Dax because the reference of old man. But she's not an old man. So I think the Trill rather accept the change of.
39:50 Looks. But I think it's a little. Harder for. The standard p people from Earth sometimes feel in the same way. So I kind of agree with the minions on this one. It'd be kind of difficult to sit there and say, oh, you were a guy yesterday. Oh now you're a female. It's like, okay, we're still trying to build in the same relationship. So Charles, the question was would you have done the same thing? I would say probably for me, I probably would have done the same thing. As there's I understand people's opinions on that. It's just not in my side.
40:40 And the palm trees that are swaying in the back agree with you. Yes, they're swinging. Yeah, the poms have calm to hear. In my opinion, that's right, that's right. As the U. Leah, yeah, what's going on here? What's going on? Guys? Does anybody else have an opinion on? The poll? Question was this was the very very first episode to mention the Trill species, right, this is really introducing me.
41:22 So I think they were getting their hands around this thing. They didn't really even realize it. It was that Trills were going to become this you know, institutionalized thing. Right. Basically, this was a device that was created as a way of exploring you know, it is written with the ending in mind, I think, really is how it was structured. Right. It was like, you know, to to basically say, is okay if that was to change? Right, can you get past your sexual identity and still love the person? Right? And it's a super personal thing, right, And you know, and our perception of and and of what gender even means has changed so much since this episode came out, right, I mean, I don't even know what it was like twenty some years ago or more, right, at least I'm bad at math, but it's been forever. I mean, you know, it's just so much stuff has changed, right, And it is super personal for people. Right. What's funny is it's like, you know, you watch this now and Beverly's like, you know, she's giving this total you know what to me sounds like a complete BS answer.
42:23 Right. She's like she's like, uh, yes, I'm not coming because of the person and she's like saying everything. But the thing that really is, you know, the deal breaker, right, you know the penis, Right, we don't have the penis. So it's and you know, your girl and I'm going and it was very you know, kind of you know, traditionally kind of having an heterosexual reaction to it, right, So it's things have changed a lot, right, So you know, I don't think I need to give you my personal action response to this, because you know, it's frankly your business. But it's just interesting, you know, it's it's curious how things have evolved. You this would seem really kind of what do you think, Erica, do you think this would seem sort of like, you know, almost like what I want to pick the right word here, but it would just sort of seem rudimentary if they were to put this on today, it just wouldn't even begin, especially where you know things have gone on Discovery over the last ye Yeah.
43:22 I think I think if you put this episode on television these days, the internet would have a shit fit. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, it's just it's it's you know, because you know, I mean I don't even think that like, you know, folks had like you know, I mean, they didn't know we're going to be editing a world where like things like trans identity, we're going to be controversial and things like this. So much has change, right, so it's interesting to see it. I kind of feel like they didn't give Gates mcfad enough to work with here. I feel like she was really muted in that scene, and I think that there's you know, good adventress. I think it would have been better to let her explore it more deeply, you know, and and she doesn't seem torn at all, and so it's not as interesting. Yep.
44:04 Well, I think if they had done that, if this was today and not not Berman Trek, I think it would have been a lot different. I think they would have explored that a lot more. But you know, back in the day, you know you're going to lose advertisers. It's not cool. And Rick Berman was always trying to walk the line. He never wanted to cross it or be too controversial. So the easy thing was, well, Beverly's going to play it cool and Odin's going to leave. We're going to move on to the next episode. So I think that they I think you're right, Paul, they missed a big opportunity in this episode to actually make a statement and explore something, and they missed the mark. I think, well opin this episode for those that wondered, date backs to May thirteenth, nineteen ninety one.
44:54 Wow, nineteen ninety one, ninety one. That's going way back there, dudes, wasn't. Even born back then yet. Wowe ago. Yeah, so just imagine that happening on Discovery. I think it would have been written and played a lot differently than it was thirty four years ago, for sure. Definitely. Well, look. At the reaction of. Riiker with the asexual society where they were all just single, single gender, but some tended towards one gender or the other, whereas they wouldn't even risk having the other character being played by a male. It had to be played by a female.
45:51 Because they were willing to risk. Right. Yeah, back then life was so different. There was never back then thirty years ago. Totally. The media was different and was different. It was then. I were there. They also had to say like, you can't say this, you can't say that, so they probably had different rules back then too. All right, so that was a ninety one We barely even had anything of an internet back then, well. Back in nineteen ninety one, everybody still thought you got age by kissing somebody, so it like things were different back then for sure.
46:36 Yeah, yeah, yes, all right, guys. Well that wraps up our polls for the week. Go to our over to our page Trek Talking and Beyond on Facebook and answer some polls over there. I try to come up with interesting one. So let me just clarify something. I am the one that writes the polls, okay, and when I'm sitting around the day and I think, oh, that's an interesting question. I worded this question in the way I worded it because a lot of times when I word the questions, people are like, oh, well, you know Picard, Beverly, the Federation, whatever, And I think sometimes the point of the question isn't what did the character do, but what what do you think they should have done? Or what would you have done? Not what the character did. So I worded this one a little bit differently on purpose.
47:21 So that's why I did. Are you with the minions then, Uncle Jim? So what did our minions say? I don't need. Eighty six said absolutely, fourteen said. Yeah I would, I would go with the no. Yeah, there we are and so all right, so that means it's time for us to move on to Paul's portion of the show. I will turn the microphone over to Paul and Paul can take it away. Okay, let's explain why we're turning. What's going on. Over the last couple of weeks, we've been diving into the second season of the Disney plush Homed or Hello, and it's a twelve episode season and tonight we're knocking up our thumbridge, right, so we're talking about it's a season of television that's broken up into four three episode arcs, right, and so it's been very exciting, all of this being a prequel, if you will, to the Rogue one movie, so a lot of folks have been very eager to watch this, and so tonight we're focusing on episodes ten, eleven, and twelve, which is the big finish to this, not only just the season season two, but to this series as a whole. And it has been remarkable. So I think we have a lot of cool things that we're going to be able to talk about here tonight. I'm super excited to dive in there. And so what we've been doing and hopefully this will work good still tonight
48:52 is we've been focusing our coverage and starting off by doing kind of a quick summary of the three different episodes, so it makes it well on the same contextual playing field to start with. So let's start off with the first episode and again, these first three episodes here, it's a prologue to Rogue one. So this is one year in advance of everything that happens in the first Awards movie. So bby being before the it's a one year before that because we've the series has progressively gotten closer and closer to those events that happened in Rogue one. So the first episode is called make It Stop. And this was a barn burner at least in my humble opinion. Right, it's a very Luthen centric episode, and this really really captures that spy espionage vibe that has been what's propelled I think and or most successfully right. So Luthan goes to meet Lannie, right, and Lonnie has been working within the ISB, the Imperial Security Bureau, is a mole for quite a while and he's got bad news. He tells Luthen that the jig is up a cent right, that Dedra Miro is coming for him to the antiquities shop soon.
50:06 And also Lonnie is figuring out what the Empire has been secretly building. This so called energy project that they've been talking about is in reality this massive super weapon called the Death Star. Right, So on this park bench, Luthen convinces Lonnie to tell him everything. And then a few minutes later we come back and Lonnie has been left dead on that park bench. So Luthen is he's a cold dude man. He is a mercenary killer when it comes down to it and things need to get done. And I think at this point Luthen knows, right, you cannot let them know what the when they get you, you cannot let them know what you didn't. Boy, these pictures are going well where we are in terms of.
50:47 Slow down, Dedra, Right, but David bleeze in about five seconds between photos. Here's advance those photos. It's manually advanced. You know. Next please like bad work, bad work presentation, They're gonna go to the next flight that bar Oh my god, Sorry, I'm just drifting in an angry on anything. So they they're in a situation where they know that, you know, if the Empire gets ahold of them, they're going to torture them to find out everything the rebel Alliance knows. So you can't get caught, and you certainly can't leave someone alive to get caught, because I think at this point Luthan knows that both he and Lonnie are done for, right, and so in a way, I mean, you could say, wow, man, that's really cold, because Lonnie had a family and everything, right, because well, he knows at this point that Lonnie was gonna get caught, right, and they would torture his family to get the information out of Lonnie. Right, So, in a weird way, leaving him deadlight down on the park bench is kind of like a it's almost like a mercy in a weird way from Luthan's perspective, I think, right, because no one's getting out of this in a good position. Right.
51:51 If Lonnie goes back to the office, he's gonna get, you know, tortured, you know. So it's it's really it's very very sad, but it's also ruthlessly effective, right, And it really establishes that we're in a high stakes situation. And then we get what I think is one of the best scenes in the entire series of and or, if not all of Star Wars. I love this scene where he Luthen is in his alter ego as the antiquities dealer in his show and he gets a knock on the door visit from Ded Ramiro. Right, And these are the two polar opposite antagonist characters on this show. But for me, I think the two most compelling characters. Right, They're just phenomenal. They're the ones I think that the audience has been waiting to see them come to Loggerheads, and we get it. Lusten's gone into there and he knows that the end is coming, so he's sabotaging all the radio equipment, right, so they can't get anything out of it. So he's going there and he's poorting the equivalent of molecular assets on the radio equipment so they can't frock it back to where the rebels are in one and there she is, right, And it's an amazing scene with them as accurates, because they're just both of them are still very much playing a part with each other. Right, They're going through the motions and they know why each other are there, right, But they're smiling and she's like, is everything in here, you know, authentic? And he's like, oh, there are only two items are questionable providence, right, meaning the two of them.
53:19 Right. It's a brilliantly written scene. It's just so fantastic. They both know the truth, right, And it's only when Dedra brings out what she's bringing in to sort of see if it could be a praise. It's the star Path unit that she knows that the Rebels had from season one. It's like, there you go, and then all of a sudden, the blinders are down, right, And I just love how even though he's caught right Lutheran, he's just too clever, he's too smart, and he just doesn't let her have the satisfaction. Even when she's just you know, letting him know you're finished, He's just like, you're too late. The rebellion's flown away, right, he's taunting her, right, just there's a whole gal like see out there waiting to disgust you.
54:02 I just thought that was amazing, right, absolutely great, And he tries to take his own life using one of the artifacts, right, But and if they it becomes a panic scene for Dedra, right, because it's like she went off book to run this raid. Right, she did not get permission for any of this, right, Like everything she does, she's got to, you know, have the theatricality. She can't resist it. She has to go in there and try to get all the credit for herself, right, And it blows up in her face because she turned her back and Luthen tried to kill himself. So now it becomes this thing for her if we don't keep him alive bad times, right, So, I mean, it's just amazing, it's incredibly well, it's just if you've not seen the scene, it it's unbelievable, really really great. So Luton sacrifices himself.
54:46 Then in come the battalions of Imperial texts, right scouring the antiquity shop and the fondor hallcraft who ship for clues, and man, is it a bummer We didn't get to see that ship do any more cool stuff in this season because the one time we really saw it out there, you know, up against a earlier version of an Imperial distart, the story it was pretty fantastic. I mean, it was a cool ass ship. So I was a little bumma we didn't get to have any of that action there. But we only had two seasons, so there you go. So again, Debra did all of this without any oversight at all, and this raid on the antiquity shop just blows up in her face, right, And she has not been a rule follower at all, because she really wanted to be the person who fought and caught it, caught the big bad nemesis of the empire. Right. And so what's really interesting is she does exactly what she accused Luthan of doing right with his rebellion. She's accused Luthen of you know, you don't want freedom, you want chaos.
55:46 But that's what Debra's doing. She's creating nothing but chaos in her interactions out there, chaos within the ISB because she's not following the rules or getting approval for things. She's just she's not a rule follower at all, right, She's road she's complete loose cannon. So it's just rich, deep irony of the best kind. It's just awesome, so really really great. So Dedra gets arrested and Luthen has rushed to this you know, security unit within this hospital. And I love this because we've never really seen a hospital facility in Star Wars before. And it was phenomenal. Phenomenal the production design where we can get in there and really see the things that they invented. None of it's just like hastily designed. It was very clever and interesting and very believable, and it was just remarkable. This whole sequence is just super super super compelling and incredibly suspenseful, like the best spy pictures are. I mean, it's just great.
56:41 And what's really fun is we get some intercutting here, right, because while Luthan's you know, main aid player, right, is coming into the hospital, right, she's she knows we cannot let them save Luthan's life, right, we can and not because if they keep him alive, they're going to basically, you know, feel him like a grape, right, They're going to get all the information about the rebel alliance out of him. So it's important that he dies. It's like the same way it was important for Luthen that Lannie died. Right, It's basically she's taken on his role. Now she's got to make sure that he's not allowed to give up everything that he knows. Right, So he's like it's the ticking clock. Aspects of everything here are just phenomenal, phenomenal.
57:27 So they're intercutting between her basically being like a one woman army right going in, sneaking into the hospital, stealing scrubs and masquerading as a nurse, right going in there, using a patient as cover, you know, distracting the Calm Forest troopers with an explosion, all this crazy shit, right, And that's all being intercut with the flashback origin story of how she and luthen Man in the first place, which we've never really seen before, which is really, really, really cool. We get all these cool flashbacks and we see that luth And played during a massacre what looks like, you know, early Republic troops on some planet during the Clone Wars, and it looks pretty pretty, you know, brutal.
58:12 And she's hiding out on the ship allah Newt and Aliens, right, and he basically keeps your secret there. And they end up teaming up and kind of acting as father and daughter whenever it's useful, right, And we get over the years to see their dynamic of how they've helped each other out until they eventually formed this antiquities coming. Right. She at some point when she's just a young girl, she's this boy executed for no reason, and Luthen tells her, hey, you have to bank that anger until it's time to use it, right. You can't just go out and destroy everything right now. It's a waiting game. You have to wait until it's appropriate to do stuff. Right. And then the final flashback, it looks like it's Naboo right where we've seen in like Phantom Menace right where they bomb a convoy. Right, And Naboo is significant because okay, yeah, of course that's where Padmey is because padme was the queen, but that's also where Emperor Palpatine is from, right. So to have a bombing terrorist explosion on Palpatine's home planet, wow, slapping the face to him.
59:10 Right. So that's like the first real thing that they do is that the blowing up that convoy and just the intercutting with Claya and doing everything she does. It is amazing. It is all so incredibly suspenseful. Her main goal, it's so sad. Her goal is she's got to end his life and keep the Empire from extracting what he knows. It's amazing. This is a super great Luthen episode. It's what a way to send farewell to one of the great characters of Star Wars, I think, frankly because kudos to Tony Gilroy and everyone on this show, because they don't just make the rebellion, Yeah, we're good, We're on the forces are good, right, I mean they go way beyond that, because Luthing was always the dark side of the rebellion, right, the maybe the the you know, the Sena Orgonas of the world didn't want to necessarily you know, admit existed, but he got stuff done that needed to get done. So it's a phenomenal character, so really, really great.
1:00:09 I think for me, one of the absolute best episodes of the entire season. Absolutely amazing, So I just loved it. Next episode, episode eleven, who else knows? Two of three, This is the aftermath of Clay as Atat right, and it's just like, wow, she did a number, man, she was super successful, right, she did it. You know, she got to Lutheran and she made sure that they were never going to get what he needed, what he knew with their operations. Right. So the ISB is just scouring the hospital, right, shutting things down. Dedra in this incredible scene, is in an interrogation cell, getting improv getting interrogated by Krenick, which is great and read up on the scene if you're behind the scenes person. Amazing work here. The actor who played Krenick, Ben Mendelshaan, Right, he improvised a lot of that scene, right, like when he just suddenly comes up behind her and puts his finger on her head.
1:01:07 She didn't know that was going to happen. Total improv moment, which is amazing. But these watch good actors, like these three working together. It's such a tree, absolutely amazing and I just loved it. Absolutely spectacular work. Right. So anyhow, in this a lot of you know, the aftermath here with this interrogation and everything, and we learn again kind of reinforced from his interrogation that you know, Denner was doing whatever she wanted to when she had no permission, you know, and she basically, you know, got accidentally got a hold of the information that that she found out, like you know, the whole death start things she shouldn't have found she didn't have access to it, and now she wanted to keep looking into which she kind of stole more. She was totally off road with all this stuff. Right, So Lea and and boy, I'm telling you Claire. I wish I could remember the name of this actress who somebody looking up for me real quickly, the actress who played Clay, because I feel bad that I'm not able to remember it in lifetime because of my not sign vil organized today.
1:02:11 But she was Elizabeth Dulal. Thank you, thank you. The thing about this actress and this she's a phenomenal performer. This was her first role, friends, I mean, she's really become a breakout star. But it's like, you know how Peter O'Toole's first role was Lawrence of Arabia. What how's that possible? She came out of like the Royal Acabey of Dramatic arts, right, and this was like her first thing. And her first audition was like, well, you're gonna have to do a scene with you know, with the with scarguard with yeah, with scarsguard for your audition. I hope that's okay, right, And she just was amazing, right, And she's just been such a breakout and she becomes like the central character of these last couple episodes. But phenomenal performance. I mean, she's just absolutely amazing, right, So thank you for looking that up. I'm so focused on character names and forgetting acronyms right. Anyhow, Claya sounds out this melsd for help, right, and it makes it all the way back to the rebel headquarters on the Oven, right.
1:03:09 And so Cassie and k Twu and Melshu they basically said, screw orders and all the different regulations, we got to go get her because I think more than anyone else they appreciate what she and and Luthan did, you know, and you know, maybe sometimes like the the up they ups and the Rebel Alliance, they want to pretend that, you know, there are no Luthens in the world. Right, we don't get our hands dirty, but they know that they wouldn't be where they were without them, so they feel real sense to the go back and find her, right. And meanwhile the IB is trying to find her as well. Right. And at this point, part of Gast is starting to do a really freak guy and he basically says he kind of follows through it that way. He's been talking about, you know, rebellion through the entire series.
1:03:56 Right. He says that she's diseased. That's what they're going to tell people, right, because he looks at the rebellion as a disease outbreak. He's actually referred to the Empire as healthcare providers in terms of justifying their actions. It's crazy. So what happens is both Cassian when Cassiane comes back to Corroussant with those guys, right, with K two and with Melchie. They'll get there at a corousson trying to you know, bust out Claya, but the ISB locates her at the same time, so it's like this race to see who can get to her first. Right, Clay is hiding out at the old safe house, right, and everyone's you know, coming in there to get her. Right. ISB sends in the whole Conforce Track tactical team, which are crazy like deranged, you know, like juped up you know, SWAT troopers, right, and Claya doesn't see herself as being heroic at all. I mean she's basically she has to almost convince Claya to go to Yabon. And the episode ends with K two kind of you know, jumping back out of his saying I'm done sitting here in the spaceship.
1:04:57 I'm going let's go one. Those were that episode two? Who else knows that's how that ends so amazing. Let's finish this off. Let's go to the last episode, episode twelve, called the Jedda Kiber Aeroso, all right, and we had this amazing action sequence where K two basically storms into the safe house apartment building, right and just nukes the place. Just the's like a wrecking crew with the com Forest Topical team this comes in there and just you know, there are no match for him. At one point, he even picks up the main ISP agent uses him as a human shield. It is so disturbing, it's just amazing, really really great. And back on Yavin, right, we see that there's still all this function dysfunction going on throughout the rebels, right man, Mathma and Draven and Bail Oregon are having this scene we were talking about earlier, right with saga Era. Right, you have no idea where I am saw just demented? Is he crazy? Has he had too much Rideo? What's going on? Right? It's just wild, but still this dysfunction, right, and the rebels are kind of struggling with the intel that Calsians brought, right, even seeming skeptical of it. Right, they don't want to believe that the Death Star is real. That what Clay has gone.
1:06:15 And there's this sense that, you know, the more altruistic rebels, like you know, you know, mon Mathma and bail Right, maybe they never really fully trusted Luthan, and despite everything he did, I think he was maybe not so sure about trusting them at some point. So man Mathma asked Belsarta to try to sus out of Cassians telling the truth, and she's like this again, I'm not going to do that. I'm not going to spy on him. I'm just going to ask him straight up, right, which is you know, I think refreshing right. And then if you remember from season one, right, they start playing that one guy's manifesto about why you need to be a rebel and why the empire is bad, and we see part of Gas even listening to it at the isb and he's just lamenting the fact that what he considers disease. It just keeps spreading, right, and you know, a lonely, isolated failure part of Guys takes himself out. He's just like done.
1:07:10 He just takes the county balls on his sword right in isolation and failure. And and then we're basically wrapping up the episode with a series of different kind of like a montage if you will, right, because we see Cassie and leaving the Yavin Bass and we know he's heading out to start the mission that will become Rogue one, right, and he is getting ready to go and everything's going to happen on that movie. Is is how we're sort of leaving things at the end OF's episode here, right, it's a little bit of a coda. And what's nice is you see him pass walk past the force healers as he goes out, Right, we see Dedra Miro in an imperial prison, right in the same freaking prison, you know, pajamas from like Narkina five, like from last season. Right, Oh man, she's just like in dens in prison. I just can't even believe it, right, it's just nuts. But Claya made it out to Yavin, right, and she's got a chance to see everything that she and Luthen helped build.
1:08:11 And you know a famous quote, that amazing Luthen model from the end of season one, right where he talks about what it is that he has to do, right and he's talking about how I'm you know, building he says, I'm burning things for a sunrise I will never see, right, the idea that you're doing these things, the sacrifices you're making in your world right now for a future you won't live to see, but you're doing it for the future, right, And so the idea of embodying that sunrise and sacrifice. Right. We kind of get a final scene there right where we're on some other kind of more rural planet and we see there's Bis right, and Bix is there with the child that she had with Cassie and that we don't even thin Cassian may ever know about it, along with B two email, who's kind of another person that Cassian gathered but then had to move beyond. And yes, I just called B two email person between seems like something you have so an amazing wrap up, right, phenomenal success.
1:09:18 I think a little bit of a cammer muted episode for the very finale compared to the you know eleven and twelve penultimate episodes, which were so full of excitement in action, especially the luth And centric episode. I just got this television series is phenomenal, uh in every way. I mean, you want to talk about like sticking the landing amazing? I mean, this is just nothing, nothing to carp about here. From my opinion, this is an incredible triumph every you know television show. Every now and then you get one that comes around, and usually it's like probably I don't know, seven to ten year intervals, Right, you get a real amazing show that just changes the face of television to some degree. Right back in the days of like you know, early HBO triumphs like The Wire and Sopranos, right, those were shows that change television, right, Breaking Bad is a show that changed television, right, same kind of deal. And I would strongly argue that I think in some ways Rogue One doesn't it too. I mean, it took something matter that I think people really had these preconceived notions of what Star Wars was going to be, right, and it just blew that open and took it to a higher level. And I just think it's remarkable what happened there, a phenomenal achievement. The only thing that bumps me out about it is how much it feels these days like the reality we inhabit is so much like
1:10:50 the reality that's depicted in this TV show, where you have people find to retain the last vestiges of their freedom and trying to build fight to retain it tomorrow for their loved ones in the face of an ever expanding autocratic fascist and intentionality, and that is really hard. So I'm hoping that this show inspires people to basically to learn real lessons about what's happening right now and to act well they still can, so phenomenal work. Highest possible rating for me. You know, tens across the board who would like to fill the void of me shutting up here now.
1:11:40 Well, I'm happy to take over here, Paul, once again, a great recap. I think that episodes ten through twelve here are probably the best show that I've seen in the last ten years. I think the the salient nature of it just coming at just the right time is almost be cognitive, given that it was written a while ago and given kind of where we are right now. Just as you were saying, so yeah, I mean, there's some specific stuff here from each one of these episodes.
1:12:20 I mean, I love the beginning of episode ten, the whole conversation between Lonnie and Luthan, and you sort of feel it the whole time that Lonnie's just not going to make it because you know that they have to limit who has this knowledge. And one thing that's kind of interesting I think too about this is that while in one of the later episodes, we get Dedras saying the words death Star, which I believe had a code name of Project star Dust, which is I was almost wondering if Krenik was asking her to say the word star dust and she said the word death star or words death star dead. But but the Rebellion does still doesn't know really what it is, right even all the way up until the finale here they know it's a weapon, but they don't know that it's a planet destroying weapon.
1:13:19 They don't know that it's the size of a moon, like they just there. There's a lot of kind of stuff that we as the watchers know that the Rebellion doesn't know at this point that I think kind of lends to this sense of tension. And if there's one thing, well, there's many things that this show has done absolutely perfectly, but that kind of rising sense of tension throughout the twelve episodes, I think is one of my favorite things. You just never quite know where it's going to go, or who's going to get screwed next, Who's you expect a game of Thrones type thing, where like major characters could die at any moment and you just you just don't really know. So I will say my other favorite part I guess of episode ten was Luthan's death scene.
1:14:01 You know, when Claia goes in and you knew that that's exactly what she was doing, and you know what's coming the entire episode, and yet and yet when she goes in and does it, it was just such a touching moment. The way that they built that touching moment through all of these flashbacks to her past and how Luthen found her on his ship when he was a military officer essentially, and then you know, it's sort of like, I don't know what battle that was that he was involved in, but whatever it was, it looked like it totally changed his way of thinking about what he was doing at the time, and the fact that Claya was there as a child was one of the catalysts that turned him towards a different way of thinking and turned him towards rebellion. So I just that whole like interaction I thought was freaking brilliant. It's just really solid. My third favorite thing about that episode you already mentioned Paul was absolutely the whole gallery situation where Luthen and Dedra are are facing off against one another. And as soon as he said there are only two things that are fake in this gallery, I was like, oh, hell yeah, that's just so cool. Okay, So episode eleven, it starts really cool. It starts with like the body of this dead stormtrooper, so you're immediately taken back to what Claya did at the end of episode ten. So there's a real great continuity there. In fact, I think each one of we talked before about how each one of these
1:15:33 three episode blocks can kind of function as almost like a film, right or an hour and a half long. It's completely continued. Yeah, yeah, it's like four little little mini movies. And then, of course, as you were mentioning Paul, the scene with Krenick and Dedra while she's in prison and the finger on the head and all that kind of stuff. I love it when he says, uh, you know, something like we'll try to go on without you, just like you realize how meaningless all of her efforts up until this point have been. And that's that's what you get, man, That's what you get when you fall in with a fascist regime. Is you get that you yourself have absolutely no value, not never mind the people they are pressing you.
1:16:17 Yourself who believe in the cause still have no value. And I just think bringing that to the foe and kind of like iterating that for people who haven't really thought about it that way was was really important. I am left with a little bit. So this is the episode that's got a little bit more Willman in it. It never dealt with his like ride doonium addiction thing, or like with the fact that he inhaled the rye donate, right, Am, I did I miss it? Just basically I think I think my head cannon on it to borrow your phrase, right, it's just the fact that he left Saw to go to Yavin. I think he was just kind of like this is. Still tough in the stuff or Willman? Yeah, I don't think so. I mean, we don't see him do it, so I guess he's not because it's just I think that's saws today. Yeah, I think it was like a one time thing. I hear take this.
1:17:06 But he also didn't die when he inhaled it, which he supposed to die when you inhale it, right. So I think it kind of leaves some mass. It just it's very toxic, right, and I think it just messes you up pretty badly prolonged exposure. You know, you might surbuy one hit, but you know it's like, you know, it's questionable you talk about like also, it's like I would love to hear you. You know, it's a bit more. But it's just like we've been seeing all these just ridiculous images of Corrussant, right, and. I was going to talk, I've got the architecture on my list. Thank you. I'm gonna go through the three episodes. I couldn't believe it blew my mind. Brother. Did you want to say something quick, David, I'm going to show that, uh, that guy who was bringing in that stuff. We did see him limp around quite a bit, so like he was recovering from the gas. I'm wondering if that might have been what they tried to do with the whole getting over and whatnot, Like he waits.
1:18:05 But okay, two other things that I love about episode eleven K two s O, like you get his personality. He comes in, he saves the day. He's like he's asking all of the questions that we're all asking like who are we hiding from? And all those kind of stuff. I love how much personality he's got as a droid. It is just fantastic. And then the I really loved it when there's that very simple scene where here, who's the guy who kind of takes over from Dedra hunting down Acxis goes to her when she's in prison to get advice from her. And what she could have done in that moment was been like, screw you, buddy, I got nothing for you. But what she does is even in prison, she still believes in the cause, and she gives him good advice on how to go get the the good guys slash you know, bad guys from his perspective.
1:19:00 So I just I love that scene because it shows the desperate nature of belief in fascist ideals. You know, she's like krying of it's a bargaining moment, right, maybe if I give him somebody, right, they'll reduce my sentence. Yeah, which she should know better right there. It's not going to mean anything. There's no compassion in that kind of a regime. Yeah. And then and then so that last episode, I agree a little more subdued, but I thought that that was the perfect ending because then kind of rogue one becomes the launching point for the next part of the story. I did not expect the Patrick as Portugaz scene, but the way that they did it, where they didn't show him shooting himself but you hear it, I thought that was really classy and a great way to actually bring that into the the moment. And then you know, I always say that, like a lot of really good science fiction kind of ends where it begins, and we get the same thing here. Like the last scene we see is Bix with the baby and they're on.
1:20:17 Was it? Is it mina Rao? Is that the name of the planet? I think the. So it's like the fields of wheat, right right where we start with season two. We end in the same place, and that's where she's gone back to because that's the place that she feels comfortable and wants to raise this child. I wonder about the kid, and I I have I haven't checked the internet yet to see if I'm sure there are theories out there about who the kid is. My personal theory about it is that this might be the guy that we see in the third set of movies. Are you drinking the po dam or in kool aid.
1:20:58 Well, I don't know why wouldn't I is is that that's out there. I will share something with you that it's it's been kind of like crazy. I mean in terms of like how this has been. Like I think there is a real need amongst folks right to attribute meaning to who everyone is, right, Like, uh, you know, oh uh you know denner MirOS Cassie and sister from the first season, right, they were separated when they were kids, right, or or maybe Claya is right, or Luten's an imperial spy and and that's you know, it's like you and I were doing, like who's Uncle Harlow? Right? And I think there's And I think he really just kind of was willing to have this thing. He's like, nobody is nobody, nobody has connected everything. But a lot of people have been wanting to think that Bix's child is podamorates.
1:21:48 I see, I mean, I want to connect. They just want to find those cross pollinations. I think gil Roy said, He's like me, I want these to be their own people, right. Well, I think that's great. I guess the reason that I brought it up in this case was that you end like babies represent hope, and they decided to end and Or with this scene with the baby, and so my natural assumption was that that baby had meaning attributed to it and it wasn't just some random baby that happened to be Cassie and Vix's baby. That that baby goes on to do something great for the rebellion. So you know, if if that's right or wrong, I don't.
1:22:33 I don't know, But my my feeling about it was that if I was writing this, like that's the way I would write it, I would. Would or cool new character we haven't met. Yet, or cool new character right one way or another, the baby represents hope. There's somebody out there tomorrow who will get raised to fight fight future incursions of fascists. Exactly. Okay, So so in summary, I know I've talked a lot, but yes, let's talk about the architecture. Just a second. I was, I was sitting there why this with my wife, and you know, now we're at the point right now where we can, like, the first of all, the blending of digital and real life is so amazingly seamless, it's almost scary. So I would love to know where the hospital building is because that, to me was obviously a real building, but it was also very clear that some of the buildings in the background were digital buildings, and you can just like, you know, knowing some basics about structures and like what could actually happen and that sort of stuff, you could you could see this blending.
1:23:31 Coruscant is just my favorite planet and almost all of science fiction, because the architecture they come up with for that for that planet is just absolutely outstanding. I still am a little unclear on like how you travel through the air, how do people not constantly crash into eating them. There's some finer points here, but like the architecture itself is really cool. Like there's the one building that they that they go to, Oh that is it? One of the apartment buildings where like every single balcony has a little landing pad for your ship and stuff. Kind of like the fifth element almost. I just think that that is so cool. So I. Love watching this show and other Star Wars things just for the sheer scale of things and the sheer like amazingness. Which, by the way, speaking of scale, not to get off topic here, but is it just me or do people in the Star Wars Universe do a lot more walking than we do in our daily lives, Like we have this kind of need to drive from door to door.
1:24:33 And I just think about how many scenes happened in this season alone of people taking walks across these giant plazas that are literally like, you know, six Portland blocks long. It's just somewhere nobody would ever stand for that in the United States, but I think it's hilarious that it's really part of this highly technological society that people just walk a lot more places than they used to. It's a lot of movies and television matter. They do it because it just looks cool, right, Well, I think so. But but also there's the Star Wars has always had this scale thing right where everything is like way beyond any reasonable scale, and I think that in order to make that believable, you have to have this walking component to it, Like you have to have people that don't have a car that just goes door to door. So anyway, Yeah, just to tie things up, I was saying to you guys before the show, I'm not really sure whether I'm supposed to like Saw or not like Saw. I'm still not entirely sure what he does for the rebellion. I know he like picks off some things along the way and that sort of stuff. He's probably and I love that people love him. I think that's great. I don't want to dispairg Anibady that loves Saw. He's probably my least favorite character in this show. I just don't like identify with him. He I don't know, he just doesn't do it for me for whatever reason. So overall, the
1:26:03 whole second season of Andor I think reminds us of sometimes what you have to sacrifice in order to maintain the rights that you have. And this is an aspect that I think people in Western society, particularly the United States, have gotten lazy with because we've had peace, we've had reasonable people in charge for a you know, relatively reasonable people in charge for a very long time. And now we're into this time period when we don't have reasonable people in charge, and bad, bad, bad things are happening, and at some point there may come a time that people have to start sacrificing big, big things to maintain things like freedom and liberty and rights and that kind of stuff. So to me, and Or is kind of like you were saying, Paul that it feels a little like scary and that kind of stuff. I totally agree.
1:26:59 It all also feels hopeful and almost provides a playbook on you know what, guys, don't get too complacent, keep fighting because if you don't, people are just gonna run right over you. And that's kind of that's kind of what I take out of season two. So yeah, yeah, anyway, next. Well I go here. I like the show. It it's definitely shown a lot of potential for making more prequels or even sequels. And if your theory of Podamning is correct, the shame you know what if there was a backstory about him, so on so on. But I thought it was a really cool ending the way they did it with the whole baby and everything, because that actually made Cashieran's backstory a lot more Ah, meaning when you go watch World one now it's going to be like, oh, he had a baby and you didn't know about it.
1:28:00 But yeah, still, it's something about it. It is just something that as a viewers knowledge, you know, you're like, oh, wow, you have a completely different opinion about that particular show. Show. Yeah, it's it's just interesting. I like it, and yeah, there's just so much stuff that I want to talk about, but we're kind of running out of time, assuming But other than that, Yeah, sorry for the you know, technical difficulty trying to get the screenshots on with you at the same time talking about But to me, you know, that's just I was told to make it as a slight show show. You know. It's like it was just following orders.
1:28:41 Yeah, so for that, I'm not going to play this. You didn't see any. So yeah, uh but yeah, I don't know. You guys are talking about this whole tie in with reality and stuff, but when I watched Star Wars or anymore Reach for that matter, I like to take myself out of reality of what's going on in the world and just watch whatever they got going in there, kind of like putting myself into a new dimension. So I don't really know if it was done on purpose for what's been going on, but honestly, I just think it's just the way Star Wars has always been, including new hope. You know, there's always been fascism, there's always been this kind of hope that they rebelling and tried to get to go on to destroy the evil. I mean. Yeah, So to me, I'm not really political in a sense of like who's doing what, what's doing what? You know, both sides of the party can make any kind of propaganda or even wrong words that you could say. I mean, honestly, I'm sorry, but it's I'm just not that political. And honestly, to me, this whole thing with Star Wars and what's been going on with Star treking with and going on, it's just just not me. I don't know. But other than that, Uh yeah, and oh, Eric, you mentioned about have you seen Rebels?
1:30:12 Yeah, I know, there's the one episode where he like attacks some stuff, right, And I guess, I guess when I think of Saw, I think of somebody who's tenacious, which I guess is a good character trait. But he's just kind of like he's just doing little things here and there, which maybe maybe the point is that he's not the only Sagerera out there. Maybe there are many people out there who are doing these kind of like little things that he's doing. Maybe that's the point of his character. And I just I haven't identified with him up to this point, but I can understand the concept of like somebody doing little things along the way that really helped cause he's just so belligerent with man and it's because of his own pride and distrust, and so I don't think those are great character traits, right.
1:30:58 Yeah, No, well, well, I mean, yes, you're correct that there's probably like a lot of more different people out there who are basically doing what they can do to prevent the Empire from getting bigger. But to me, the way I see it is that Sagurera tried to do what mon Mathma did but failed, and the loss of his sister from I think it was either the rebels or the Clone Wars took a lot of pressure on him to the point where he just went rogue. And he was a part of the rebellion at the time, but he just yeah, I mean even I believe in this. In this particular episode, at episode twelve here they were talking about him about him becoming rogue at one point.
1:31:43 I can't remember exactly all the compotations they had, but I believe that was part of it. But anyways, Ah, yeah, this is actually a really fun show. I liked his prequel and I can't wait to go right into Rogue one after watching it. I tried, but right out of time. But other than that if we're giving scores, yeah, I'm I'm ten all the way, of course. But of course, now since we had lost Charles and Paul had to leave, I'm assuming we're not going to bell to really get their scores. So well, well Charles didn't see it and Paul gave it a ten. So okay, well you haven't heard from me yet. No, go ahead, Jim. And I'm always an outlinerer. Huh. You never know so what to say? What to say? I love K two s O. I think he's awesome. His his scene where he where he goes crazy on the imperials is awesome.
1:32:42 His backstory with Cassie and I thought was great. Myn Mothma being brought to Yavin and seeing that whole thing and him flying off to make Rogue one, which I think is one of my favorite Star Wars movies. It was wonderful. But and you know, there's a butt I gotta say. I know you guys don't agree, but it's my opinion, and you know we're allowed to have different opinions. But to me, Star Wars is not James Bond. It's not let's sit around and talk and plan and scheme and have a thousand characters doing a million different things. That's not Star Wars for me. And then I'm sorry, but it's not. When I watch Star Wars, I want to sit down and relax. I want to see lightsaber Stormtroopers.
1:33:29 That's what I want to watch Star Wars for. If I want deep, intellectual meaning stuff that's ethical, I'll watch Star Trek. And to me, that's the difference between the two. People always ask you, what do you like better Star Wars or Star Trek? What depends what I'm going to move for. Star Wars was launched as a popcorn movie, a pulp fiction y type of thing. That's what it was, and that's what it is to me. If I got to sit there and analyze, Well, let me see this guy knew that guy, and his mother's aunt was with that guy, and they had a meeting with this other guy. And there's a hundred characters whose names I can't keep straight and really don't have enough interest to that I'm just not really compelled to care. And that's how I felt about and Or. It got really really good last week when we finally got to see the massacre at Gorham, but then it went right back into the sneaking, talking, spying stuff, which I'm not really into. So yeah, I mean, I'm hearing everyone talking about how great and Or is and it's the greatest Star Wars ever. I don't agree with that. Rogue one. Yeah, I love Rogue one. It's awesome.
1:34:45 Did we need and Or to set up Rogue one? I don't feel that we did. I just went back and watched Rogue one, and I hear everybody talking on the YouTube and on the Internet about how Rogue one has been forever changed by what happened in Andor. I didn't see any changes. I mean, maybe it's because I didn't really care for and Or, but I watched Rogue one and it's Rogue one. I'm not looking at it and saying, oh, well, you know, Cassie and killed the guy in the alley because he killed the soldier that in front of BIS, or anything like that. You know. I think I think you can read into what you want to read into, and if you want to read into it, you'll see it. If you don't, then you won't.
1:35:29 And I don't think that you necessarily have to watch and Or to love Rogue one. Rogue one stood perfectly fine on its own and it still stands perfectly fine on its own. So I didn't love and Or as much as you guys did, and I apologize for that. But yeah, I can't give it a ten. I don't know A see. Maybe I gotta throw it decimal in there. I know Paul's not here, but I'm thinking maybe six point eight. Maybe I'm doing the math.
1:36:10 You know, I love K two s so and I thought it was good. So was it necessary? Let me have Was it necessary? Yeah? There? There she is with the baby. Was it necessary to see the relationship between uh, the girl and the guy that started the rebellion? Guy, the guy that got killed? What was his name? Was it? Did we need to see that backstory? Did that add anything to anything? Really? In my opinion, it didn't. You know, she goes to Yavin, but but who is she did?
1:36:52 What was she relevant? Was she one of Princess Leiah's aide? Did she put gas in Luke Skywalker's X wing on? What was her purpose of the whole? She went to Yavin? Okay, cool, But I don't know. I think there was a lot of things in it that didn't necessarily have to be there, that didn't really move the story ahead. So that's why I'm only giving it a six point eight. So right on, well, out of the four guys, then that gives us a average Trexpert score of nine point two. Well, okay, so that's that's still reasonable. Yeah, And the answer to your question is that they needed to show Claya's backstory to really bring meaning to her killing off Luthan. And she also her main purpose was that she was the one who actually delivered the information about there being an imperial weapon to the rebellion through Cassian.
1:37:46 Yeah, I got that. I got that, But I mean that's her purpose. Yeah, that was her purpose in the right, But it doesn't really change anything in my opinion. She had to kill them. We already knew they had a relationship. But so what time is it, I don't know what time is it? Six nine? I think we should go right to news personally, but that's my Okay. Well, there's a couple of birthdays that I definitely think are worth touching on, especially in the remembrances. There's a couple in there. One, two, there's Yeah, there's a few of them in there that I think are worth mentioning.
1:38:29 And I think I think that Eric will find them in a hurry. Number three, for instance, on your list, I think we should definitely talk about. Oh yeah, this is much more than was on the list a day ago when I did my. So let me play our birthday theme and we'll we'll jump around on this list so that we can get to the birthdays. So here's our birthday theme that was not a clue on song, Yes war if we know. So.
1:39:14 We like to do our Star Trek birthdays and every week we start off with our Star Trek members of our family who are no longer with us, sadly enough. And we turned to Eric. Now we have a we have a long list here. We talked a little bit about Star Wars a little bit longer, and man, we've had gremlins tonight on this podcast. It's been absolutely crazy tonight. I just don't know, So, I you know, I think we should definitely do number three, would you agree, Eric? Sure? Yeah? And uh number five. Okay? And uh yeah, number five. I mean, I'll just I'll just read through all the number two expand on any of them, but I'll just read through all of them. So, so this week we remember actor Lloyd Keino, who passed away in twenty twelve, he played Wu in the Star Trek episode The Omega Glory.
1:40:10 Also remembering Barry Atwater, the American actor who originated the role of Surak in the TOS third season episode The Savage Curtain. Also remembering Yvonne Craig, the actress and former ballerina who played Marta in the TOS third season episode Whom Gods Destroy But of course most famous and thank you for putting this picture up, David, most famous for her role as bad Girl in the nineteen sixty seven to nineteen sixty eight television serial Batman. One of my great joys of childhood. Yvonne Craig, I love you so much and thank you for contributing to Star Trek as well.
1:40:51 Happy Birthday as well to Liam Sullivan, the actor who played Parmen in the TOS third season episode Plato's step. Children excellent episode. Absolutely Happy Birthday, as well to actor Andreas Katsulest, best known for playing the recurring character of the Romulan commander Tomoloch on TG. He also played the Visian Captain Drennick in the Enterprise second season episode co Jenitor. I don't have the quote handy for me here but I remember him giving this quote about how it was a very interesting character to play because you always see him this close. You could see on the video here how you see his face is literally you never see Tomolok's body. You only see his giant face on a monitor. So kind of interesting. Happy Birthday as well to actress Elizabeth Rodgers.
1:41:41 She is the person who played Lieutenant Palmer in the TOS second and third season episodes The Doomsday Machine and The Way to Eden. Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday, as well to Jim Goodwin, who played Lieutenant John Farrell in the TOS first season episodes MUD's Women, The Enemy Within, Fantastic and Mary. Happy Birthday, as well to Booker Bradshaw, the actor who played doctor m Benga, the Og in the Star Trek Original Series second and third season episodes A Private Little War and That Which Survives. I think that is one of my favorite characters that they brought back, and of course are exploring in much more detail and strange new worlds. But Booker Bradshaw was the original em Benga.
1:42:24 Happy Birthday to him. Happy Birthday as well to Paul Winfield, the actor who played Clark Terrell in Star Trek two, The Wrath of Kahn and Daython in the TNG fifth season episode Darmock. What a fantastic episode. People still just talk about that episode all the time. One of the best TNG episodes out there. And unfortunately, you know, Clark Terrell got the little the little worm in his ear. That was kind of kind of gross. But Paul Winfield did a great job with all that stuff. We lost him all the way back in two thousand and four. Hard to believe it's been twenty years already. Wow. And last but not happy birthday to David Hillary Hughes, the American actor with only four television and movie appearances, but for Star Trek. He played Trefane in the TOS first season episode Errand of Mercy, And that, you guys, does it for our remembrances. Shall we continue with all of the regular birthdays?
1:43:19 Jim, Yeah, I'll jump in. I'll cover Charles and you can cover Paul. How's that sounds great? So for Charles who's having technical difficulties and had to leave us early, I know you guys find that hard to believe, but honestly, we never have technical difficulties of this magnitude on this podcast before. We had a little bit of a technical difficulty when we talked with Nick Myers, but we resolved that quick. We've never had ongoing difficulties like this before, so I apologize for that and hopefully we'll get them all ironed out by next week. So on Charles's list, we want to say happy birthday to Brenda Bake. She's the actress from Kimath falls Ore again who played the role of Rhythm in the Star Trek The Next Generation first season episode Justice, and there she is.
1:44:05 We talked about her a little bit last week, right with those funky clothes that they wear running around everywhere. So happy birthdays the male pants which are really bad. Yes, yes. And we also want to say happy birthday to Gina Rivera, the actors who played Tyler in the TNG seven season episode Fantasms and there she is on the screen right now. And happy birthday to Constance Towers. She's the actress who played the role of tax Co in the DS nine first season episode The Forsaken. And last I gave this one to Charles. On Charles's list is John Billingsley, and you guys all know and love him as doctor Flox from Star Trek Enterprise. He also was in one of my all time favorite shows. I never missed an episode of The Orville, one of the best.
1:44:58 And I'm so glad you said that out loud, Jim. I had to throw that in there just for you. Trueblood the X Files. He's been around quite a bit, but we all know and love him as Doctor Flox from Star Trek Enterprise. Happy birthday to John Billings Leader and I will turn this over to Eric so he could do some living people. Some living birthdays. Happy birthday and much congratulations to Riley Alas Rocky, the child actress who voiced rock Talk in Star Trek Prodigy. And I will tell you, guys, I think we are all in love with this show and Riley did such a great job with this character. Rock Talk is just such a gem of the show and if you haven't seen Star Trek Prodigy yet, you absolutely need to check it out and check out this character in particular. Happy birthday to Riley alas Rocky. Happy birthday as well to Jennifer Nash, the actress who played Marrabor in the Next Generation fifth season episode The Inner Light, another one of those best ever episodes of Next Generation.
1:45:59 Happy birthday to Anthony Zerbie, the Emmy Award winning American actor who played Dougherty in Star Trek Insurrection. And we just talked about him a couple of shows ago when we talked about Star Trek admirals, and I think he fell squarely into the category of evil admirals. So congratulations, Anthony, you are one of the most evil admirals in Star Trek and everybody knows he did. He got a nasty face stretching and that could not have been comfortable. Happy birthday as well to Gail Strickland, the actress who played Alexis in the DS nine second season episode Paradise. Happy birthday to Ben Lemon, who played Jev in the Next Generation fifth season episode Violations.
1:46:45 He was a creepy dude. Huh, he was a super creepy dude. That is well, it's well titled. Right there, says I'm a creepy. Dude evil telepathways. Yes, and last on my list. Happy birthday to Shirley Bond, the actress who appeared as Ruth in the TuS first season episode Surely even I'll pass this birthday candle over to Gym. I don't have I don't have very I don't have any Klingons this week, so I usually take the Klingons and give everybody else to Eric and Charles, but I did have to take this first one. I was thinking about giving her to Charles because Charles loves Start Trek four, but I'm a Go Gos fan, and so I took this one. So we want to say happy birthday to Jeane.
1:47:36 Jane Wheedland. And if you don't know who that is, she's a musician and actress who played Treole in Star Trek four The Voyage Home, but she's best known as being the rhythm guitarist for the nineteen eighties Go Gos. She's got the beat and her lips are sealed and there she is on the screen. Man, I love the Go Gos and so I had to take her for myself. So Happy Birthday to Jane Weedland. This next one from Star Trek Discovery had the opportunity of meeting him down at Trek Long Island a couple of years ago. It was his birthday and when he came into the ballroom, everybody's saying happy birthday to him, and he was so cool.
1:48:18 He walked around, he talked to all the fans. He shook everybody's hand. He was a genuinely awesome person to me. And of course we want to say happy birthday to David Ajala. He's the English actor who played Cleveland Booker on Star Trek Discoveries third through fifth season. Happy birthday to David Agiala. We also want to say happy. Birth Yeah, did do do do do? Did did do? Oh? And now La is attacking Jim's Jim's losing it. First we had the family attack. Now we've got the dog attack on.
1:49:00 I'm trying to I'm trying to get my dog to I knew she was gonna jump on me, but and she just she did, so I was trying to get her to stop. Sorry, guys, that's my dog, Leah. So we want to say Happy birthday to Matt McCoy. He's the actor who portrayed Devonannie Rawl in the third season episode of TNG The Price. Another one of those kind of. Creepy, super creepy. Yeah, I was gonna telepathically rape you. He was freaky. But I remember him from Police Academy. You guys remember all those movies from the early eighties. He was trying to remember five or so five and six. I definitely saw one through three for sure, but yeah. Yep, he was in Police Academy. And last, but not least, I had to take this one because so we want to say happy birthday to Anne Cusack. She's the actress and singer who played Maggie in the Star Trek Enterprise second season episode Carbon Creek. And if you haven't seen this episode, what are you waiting for? Go watch it right now. If you're one of those people who doesn't watch Enterprise because for whatever reason, you're doing yourself a big injustice, particularly this episode Carbon Creek. Please I implore you to go and watch it. You will not be disappointed.
1:50:16 And with that, guys, that wraps up all of our Star Trek birthdays. And now we're going to dive into some Star Trek news. Maybe Eric, maybe we should come up with a different Star Trek News intro at some point. Priority one message from Starfleet coming in on Secure channel. Incoming transmission enter authorization code, command codes verified, Define parameters of program. Level nine authorization required. Specifying parameters. Transfer updata is complete. A blank alert, blank alert. Yeah you know when when my cat Anakin comes in here and Laya chases Anakin. That's usually what happens, so I try to keep Anakin out of the studio, but he crept in here lay As and that was it.
1:51:05 No warr erupted, all right, guys, So I've got our first story. Star Trek's Strange New world Season three finally sets a twenty twenty five premiere day. Say Lord set a course for fun. Star Trek's Strange New Worlds is finally set at season three premiere date, marking one of the most hotly anticipated seasons of any Trek show in sometime. Strange New World's will return on July seventeenth, that's a Thursday on Paramount Plus with two episodes. They're going to play the finale of the of the Gorn episode and then the first episode of the new season, So we'll see two episodes that first night, which just means we're gonna have to cram a lot into the podcast, but we can do it, and weekly episodes rolling out after that.
1:51:52 When we last saw the crew of the Enterprise, the Federation starship was being swarmed by a Gorn fleet. It didn't look good, but we know from all the many clips that we've seen released on season three, they're gonna make it as well as you know Star Trek History as the prequel series, the Enterprise survives and all sorts of shenanigans are ahead. It appears the entire crew is turned into Balkans at one point. There's even an Agatha Christy style who done an episode which Jonathan Frakes directed, recalling the Dixon Hill Halideck adventures. On the Next Generation. There's also a rom com episode and one where their characters are transformed into the fashions of sixties original series. So we've got a lot to look forward on July seventeenth on Strange New Worlds. It'll be glad to have it that and Eric, you've got a new story for us as well.
1:52:41 I do, and I'm excited about this when a new Star Trek series is being developed. The series, titled Star Trek Starfleet Scouts, appears to be a family friendly project. You may be thinking of the Paramount Plus Star Trek Prodigy series, which was a franchise first for time targeting a younger audience. However, this new Star Trek series seems to be a children's animated digital short show that will air on YouTube for kids based on casting information. The new animated series will focus on three eight to nine year old friends as they go to school on an earthlike planet. The series will follow their adventures as they train to become future Starfleet Explorers. This information seems like a step before Starfleet Academy. The characters of Starfleet Scouts are described as cool, funny, heroic, and authentic. While the target audience is preschoolers or a family friendly environment, positioning it on YouTube is a fantastic opportunity. More and more people watch YouTube every day as their primary entertainment source, especially younger people. A dedicated short series could appeal to a new untapped audience in hopes of reinvigorating the fan base, or I would say keeping to invigorate the fan base or growing the fan base, because I think if you bring Star Trek to the younglings, they will find good things come to their lives throughout their entire li right if you can make them grow through all of the
1:54:12 Star Trek shows, and even Star Trek Prodigy has a fair amount of peril in it and so appealing to even younger kids, I think is a fantastic Ideanna. I don't know that we'll review that show on here, but I'm really excited that they're making it. So putting it on YouTube versus putting on a Paramount Plus, I don't know if well, unless they do it like Short Trucks. Short Trucks is on Paramount Plus and they're you know, they're short, hence the name Short Treks. Well, I think the idea here is that they're trying to appeal to as many people as possible. And I will say that we're among the minority as Paramount Plus subscribers, right, and nobody's going to subscribe to Paramount Plus just to watch this show. But man, they go on YouTube all the time and they may even find it by a you know, here's another show like what you were already watching type of thing, which you can't do on Paramount Plus.
1:55:05 So that's probably why they're they're going to get a wider, much wider audience by putting it on you. And it sounds like it's shorts. Shorts could mean anything between you know, five and fifteen minutes. I'm imagining something like the what they call the Star Wars shorts that they've got on Disney. Are they like Tales of. The Jedi Underworld Tales tales that. I mean, those shows are only like a few minutes long each, so maybe it'll be something like that. Well, I'm thinking Skeleton Crew is what I'm thinking. Yeah, I mean Skeleton Crew still has a fair amount of peril and that's still a you know, thirty forty minute show. So yeah, I like Skeleton Crew fantastic. Yeah, well you want to do but Paul's story? Sorry, who's talking about Prodigy?
1:55:57 Yeah? Sure, pig she just got another nail in its coffin. Unfortunately, and I don't understand why Paramount isn't bringing the series back. The person who writes this article says, after some unfortunate cancelations, it seems like Star Trek seemed like Star Trek was on an upward trajectory thanks to a few promising upcoming truck shows on the horizon. However, unfortunately, the cancelation seti eel is threatening to board its way into the years of fans once again, as some upsetting news about Prodigy has arrived. Reports from What's on Netflix indicate that the streamer will be removing Star Trek Prodigy from its library in two phases. Season one will be taking taken off the platform on June twenty fourth, and season two is set to get yanked on New Year's Day, Happy New Year.
1:56:44 After that, it's unknown if either season will be available to stream with a Paramount Plus subscription, or any details for what will happen next. Of Netflix removing both seasons less than a year from now, it's safe to save. Plans for Star Trek Prodigy season three aren't looking too good. In fairness, the Hageman brothers encouraged fans to watch if they wanted a new season, and there possibly just weren't enough fans clued in on that initiative. While Netflix's larger viewership base was an advantage, the series only drew about three point four million votes over or views over a two year stretch. It's not very many stream Star Trek Prodigy while you can on Netflix. Keep fingers crossed that some positive news on the series is on its way and that there's someone out there willing to see what this show brings to the table. My biggest hope personally is that once it's off Netflix, they will have cleared all of their contracts and now Paramount Plus can say, Okay, now let's do a season three.
1:57:45 Yeah? Is that possible? Prodigy was such a good show too. Yeah, it really got its legs in second season, and it was outstanding in second season. I'm shocked that. I don't understand why Paramount didn't air when they had the season done. Sometimes they make some stupid decisions. Well, I think here's it. I think we talked about this when it moved to Netflix. Man, I think it's all about money, right, And as we just said, we're in the money minority being Paramount plus subscribers, and they figured they could get a wider audience with Netflix. They were hoping at that point that it would help grow the viewership. But at any rate, even if that didn't happen, they still got a lump of cash from Netflix by selling off their show rights for a couple of years.
1:58:34 So now that it's coming back to the Paramount family, hopefully that will that lump of cash can be used as a catalyst to get season three going. Yeah, but Netflix also has a notorious reptation of canceling their own show show. I don't know. Once again, it's a it's a money thing, right, If it's not making enough money, they'll just cancel it, regardless of how much people love it. Unfortunately, it has nothing to do with the quality, it's just how many people watch it. Yep, Like Section thirty one was on the top of their viewing list for weeks and weeks and weeks, yet most of the fans hated that. So it's not whether you like it or not, it's how many people watch streaming minutes. I'm sorry, it's basically a minute, how many minutes it's stream So I think we're going to cut the news there because it's once again we had a lot of technical difficulties and I don't know why. We've never had that many on one show before, So I apologize for that. Oh god, I mean since we switched over to Riverside, Riverside has been exceptional, so we haven't had a lot of problems with them. So next week, guys, we're going to be having Comic Corner and we're going to do Lower Decks issues four and five. We're going to continue our Comic Corner coverage of Lower Decks and we're going to have a new co host us. We're going to have Victoria with us, and she's from Virginia and she's a huge Lower Decks fan. Her license plate is Lower Decks so
2:00:08 that's why she's going to be joining us next week for the Lower Deck Show. So I'll please tune in and show her some support. And yeah, that's pretty much it.
