I try to come up with interesting and fun questions. Sometimes they're philosophical, sometimes they're just fun. And in honor of tonight's episode, which we're going to be talking about Star Trek Voyager Message in a Bottle, I wanted to have some fun with that episode. So, Eric, what do we have for our first whole question tonight? Yeah, this is a great question. I feel like I'm gonna forego my own opinion because I kind of want to talk about this when we review the episode. But on the Voyager episode Message in a Bottle, Captain Janeway decides to send the EMH the only medical personnel on board.

14:05 I mean, unless you count Tom Paris, but he doesn't really count on a potential one way mission. Do you agree with her decision to send him? And this is great because it's not a landslide. Sixty eight percent of our responders said, yes, absolutely, it was worth the risk. But you know, a solid thirty two percent of our responders said, I don't know. You kind of need to have a doctor on board, and he's really the only one, so maybe you should not send him sixty thousand light years to a different quadrant of the galaxy. So I really appreciate the response on this and the fact that it's kind of a two thirds one third split. It feels about right to me. So I will reserve my own opinion on the details of that until later in the show. But I think it's a solid response for people, and I kind of liked that it wasn't a landslide.

14:58 Well how about you, Paul, would you send your emh all the way through the Herogin system. Well, it's a question of the stakes, right, I mean, here's the situation. It's not like they're just on a regular routine mission, right. They are marooned, you know, gazillions of light years away. That's an official UH Federation measurement, by the way, the gazilion, I mean, their way the hell and gone from home. Right. And normally, you know, you'd probably be a little bit more reticent to send a key person who that's there, you're one person who can do that. But but this happened really fast. They got a rare window and there's the whole ticking clock thing that basically seven is keeping track of on this episode. You know, we got a few minutes to do this, right, So they made it make a really hasty decision, that window opportunity to take advantage of that frequency that shows up. You know that will only respond with holographic whatever is fleeting, right, So they got to act quickly on there. And it's you know, I think that the fact that they are lost and so far from home. It's like the one shot. You got to roll the dice some dimes, right, and they were And that's kind of who Jane Way is. It's keeping with her, right, You got to roll the dice or you wouldn't have. You know, if you play it safe, you'll never freaking get home. So sometimes you have to take risks. And to quote Captain James T. Kerr, risk is our business, gelem, So you know, I mean that's what it's all about. Right. Also, there would be no freakin' plot if she hadn't sent him, so it's kind of necessary that he goes.

16:29 Right. It's not like it's an ethical conundrum. It's the it's a catalyst inciting incident of the show. But you know, I mean they had to write, I mean, so what are you gonna do? And you know it's not like she said, you're going to do this or I'll disconnect you, right, She asked him, would you please go? Given our situation, and you know, when your boss says could you please do something, it's kind of like you don't really have a whole lot of choice, right, you kind of just go. That's my take on it. All right, So Paul agrees with the minions. How about you, David? What Paul said? Okay, but I do have to agree though, Yes, I'm gonna say absolutely to send him because you make programs.

17:13 I know that this is supposedly apparently the computer version of the future, and it's really hard to make another hologram. I mean, Kim and Parish tried to make another one, but they couldn't get a bed side man at the work or something. So yeah, but apparently there's a lot more to it than that. But other than that, Yeah, I totally agree with Paul that. Yeah, and the minions, Yeah, send him out, Okay, just to wish. All right, so we got two minion votes. How about you, Charles, Well, look at this being a season four and they're supposed to be about four years out and have had no communications with Starfleet.

17:58 This was the first chance, so he actually got attempt a chance to attempt to speak to Starfleet doctors is only a hologram on board ship, unlike Christopson for a ship who had multiple holograms. They have one. So he's the only only crewmember who could go and they needed to do They needed to try this mission so they could sit there, maybe get some communications. So yes, it need to be done. Wow. Okay, so we got three minions and uh, mister star Trek five guy is going to be the outlier because I'm not with the Minions. If it was my ship and I was the captain and we were that far away from home and he was my only medical personnel, I would not risk him just to send a message.

18:46 And if I if I remember correctly, Eric can I'm not a huge Voyager fan, so I might be wrong here, Eric. But in the first season episode Eye of the Needle, did they not send messages through a micro wormhole to a romulant dude who delivered the messages to Starfleet. There was some of that. Yes, yes, technically, you are correct they did. They were able to send limited number of messages. They went around, they asked the crew to and they all collected messages and kind of sent them all at once. So there was a little something there.

19:31 There may be we'll talk about that later too. There may be a little bit of an inconsistency with that particular episode and some of the things that Janeway says in this episode. But you know, yeah, I still think it's a good thing that they were able to send messages here. So I'm not with Dominions. I wouldn't have resked it because if someone gets hurt, like Paul said, you're still a long long way from home. That's a long journey to make. With Tom Parris is your only mess expertise. I mean, he can barely take care of a hangnail. So I wouldn't have done it. So that's my take, and Eric is gonna refuse himself from that one. So we have three now and one against Dominions. And what's our next pole question?

20:18 All right? The next pole question is another good one. In the TNG episode Sins of the Father, the Klingon Council wrongly accuses Wharf's father Mogue, of being a romulent spy to protect Duros. Do you agree with them? Dura? Seven percent of our responders say yes, they agree with that old Klingon Council, but a solid ninety three percent of our responders say, heck, no, you don't accuse somebody of something wrong just to like save face or whatever you're trying to do. With Duros there who said yes, I gotta believe it was only like one or two people guys.

21:03 All right, Paul, So what do you think did the Klingons do the right thing by dishonoring Wharf's father? No, because the absolutely not No, Because the Klingon High Council in this era of Star Trek is like you know, the current iteration of Congress right there. They are as corrupt and a moral as the day is long. Right, They're all on the payoff, right, It's all about now, how much money can I make doing this thing? The zero ethical accountability. They're weasels with a capital W. None of them can be trusted. And they do this whole thing ostensibly to protect the greater honor of the good.

21:45 But no, it's basically you know, doing bad to somebody after they're gone, know, besmirching their reputation, you know, going against the very concept of what honor is. Old school Klingons back in the day would have had all these bastards executed. With that question. It would be like no, you're going against honor. You you you've you know, I'm permanently eighty six and you from Stovegore. You will never even so much to set your foot in the door. You're gone. Yeah, So that's absolutely uh you know, that's that's what's so great about this multi episode arc of Next Gen though, the whole kling On Civil War thing, it's just kind of showing that, you know, at some point, oh God died just say civil war after besmirching the modern GOP Congress. Yes, I think probably I did. Yeah, you just cannot continue to endure, right, this is this level of corruption and at some point, like if you you know, uh, you have a cardboard box and you keep putting front of crap into it right all the time, you never keep it clean, the bottom will eventually crumble and erode and collapse and everything will just fall out. And that's where we are, and that's where uh, that's where that iteration of the Klingon High Council was super corrupt and deserving of death by battless, if not worse.

23:03 All Right, so Paul is with the minions yet again. How about you, David? No, oh yeah, I am yeah, no, because I'm voting no, I'm not not yes, I'm voting no. Right with the right, Okay, just making sure you're with the ninety It was ninety three percent, right, Eric, Yeah, ninety three. How about you, David? I would have to say that the Council was also wrong in accusing war for his father. I mean the information they had in the time when they couldn't find proof that heired the Maromulant five for instance, I mean sure they probably did it then because of the fact that the information is what paramount in this whole situation.

23:52 So for me, now that we know how in what happened, I would have to say, you know, yeah, I would have to be within the ninety three percent as well, because that whole situation was all informational. So yeah, all right, there you have it. How about you, Charles, where do you fall on this list? Well, how do you use it? Sit there and dishonor the dead? You dishonor and disrespect the dead because they cannot defend themselves. He couldn't be there to sit there and say he did or didn't do it, and we find out later that it was to hide the real person who did do it. So no, I don't think it was respectful or the thing to do. And I agree with the minions.

24:47 All right, well so we got three minions and yeah, I'm going to be with the minions too, because I think that as soon as they found out that it was Duras that had worked with the Romulans to set that whole thing up and caused all the Klingons to be murdered, why would they cover that up? What would It's dishonorable? Klingons think that Romulins are a waste of skin? Isn't that what Warf said about them? So in order for the High Council to side with Duros, you know and the Romulans is there's no words for it. It's beyond dishonor. So yeah, I'm with Dominions on this one as well. How about you, Eric, you get the Caboos.

25:30 Yeah, I can't disagree with you guys at all. I mean, kim Peck and all those guys from the High Council back then. You'll remember that they do a lot of name calling of Wharf in that episode, and they talk about how he's not really a Klingon because he grew up in the Federation and all of this kind of stuff, and so there's absolutely some I guess that's not exactly racism, but it's it's akin to that. It's like somebody who's growing up in a different culture and his own culture kind of you know, berating him for that, and they do that to give themselves justification to blame Mogue. And in my minds, I completely agree with Paul, Like, you know, if you accuse somebody of being guilty who's not even guilty, then that's the very definition of being corrupt. Right, So, yeah, they were one hundred percent corrupt, one hundred percent in the wrong. I'm with the ninety three percent, no question.

26:30 And when when, if I remember the episode correctly, when Warf goes to Gown and notifies him that the council was aware of it, I'm not Garon is shocked. He says, the council knew, and so he didn't even Gon was shocked at. The council the most like straight edge guy anyway, exactly. So, yeah, when. Somebody who's kind of corrupt says that corruption is happening and acknowledges it, and. You know it really bad, there's something deep going on there. Yeah, all right, guys, So those are our poll questions. I did put up a question on our Facebook page, not actually a poll, but I asked you what you thought about messaging a bottle to get a fans score for it.

27:15 And you know, our Facebook page is nowhere near what it used to be, so we didn't get as many responses as I would like. But what did our fans have to say about it? And what was their overall score of message in a Bottle? Eric, Well, we got three good responses that we're going to share with the fans here. James Brice said that Jane Way was reckless, which I think goes to that very first poll that we talked about. Michael Wilson says they really should have been aware that the EMH had a backup in Living Witness. Hello, he literally could have been in two places at once. Yes, that is true, but you know, like Paul was saying, like, if you don't do the thing, then you don't even have a show.

27:57 So it's you know, this is one of those suspension of disbelieve. Cannon doesn't always have to be canon. Anybody who gets kind of like totally embedded in all of the minutia of what's happened in past episodes is probably missing the point of particular episodes. So thank you Michael for pointing that out. And top fan Ryan Thorne said, nice way to present a new ship. The image episode was good, of course he's talking about the USS Prometheus. Of the responses that we did get for this episode, a lot of people liked it. It was a nine point seven out of ten, and that's pretty high. So there you go. All right, Paul has a common I just got to say to our fan who weighed in there, Okay, chronologically, okay, Living Witness as an episode takes place several episodes after Message in a model, Okay, So the implication was that that whole backup thing that they mentioned was something that they probably upgraded to this whole thing realizing that.

29:01 Wow, rev Living Witness takes place like hundreds of years later too, right. Right, That's that's way a whole different and further down in the episode chronology. Right. So it's just like they wouldn't be aware of that because I don't think they've installed that safety countermeasure yet, right, which I think it's meant to be implied that that's something they did as a result of this episode, right, You know. So I'm sorry, Michael Wilson, but I gotta I gotta go with episode chronology is My is My Weather vo? Yeah. I also wanted to add in something there too, because I believe Balana actually mentioned that they couldn't back up you Make program because there was just too much data and on board the ship you can only have so much data face available.

29:41 And so I believe it's pronounced data David data. Data Yeah, yeah, oh yeah, yeah. I looked it up. That Message in the Bottle is season four, episode fourteen. Living Witness is season four episode twenty three. Yeah, many episodes later, hundreds of years in the future there we got all right. So Eric, when I asked what we wanted to discuss, Eric jumped on this episode a Message in a Bottle. So would you like to get us started and why you chose this one and start off your review?

30:25 Yeah? Sure, so I think Message in a Bottle is not one of these episodes that's kind of like an epic two parter of which star Trek Voyager is famous. I mean, don't get me wrong, like episodes like Scorpion and that kind of stuff are really amazing and epic and have all this thing but there's so many things about this episode that I really really like, I kind of want to start at the end and work my way backwards. So what I'm left with at the end of this episode is that the crew has been out in the Delta Quadrant, sixty thousand light years from home for four years. They have had aside from the one little blip here that one of our one of our responders was talking about, they basically have had no contact or no, it's Jim who brought it up. They basically had no contact with everybody.

31:16 And in fact, in this episode they mentioned that Voyager was declared lost fourteen months prior to this episode, So as far as everybody's family knows, as far as Starfleet knows, the Voyager is dead and gone. And one of the things that I think Voyager is just really good at doing is bringing this kind of like human element into the crew and the ways that they respond to things. First of all, Janeae is a fantastic captain and she does make a lot of really really tough decisions. And when it comes to our poll, for example, you know, was it worth the risk of sending the EMH your only doctor six light years to deliver this message that in my mind, the answer is heck yeah, it was absolutely necessary, much in the same way that Tim Russ several weeks ago when we had him on the show, said that it was absolutely necessary that two vics be split back into two people for the safety of the crew. Right, This was a safety of the crew issue. And Jim correctly also brought up that it wasn't like she forced the doctor to it. To do it, I think with thirty five seconds left on the clock or something, the doctor was finally like, Okay, yes, I will do it.

32:35 And I think the doctor did it for his own motivations. I mean, he kind of had already requested at some point several episodes and maybe even a year before after he got his mobile emitter, he had requested several other you know, away missions. He wants to go off and have a He's been on for four years. He has developed this personality, this sentience to him, and so he was actually a little bit trepidacious, but like generally speaking, was all in on this type of an adventure. And as for him being the only doctor on board, well even Henry Kim kind of alludes to that a little bit where he hands the pad over to Tom and tells him to start learning Gray's anatomy. Right, Doctoring is a learned thing. Anybody can learn to be a doctor if they put the time and effort into it. And will there be some rough patches between now and then, you know, somebody cuts their arm off all of a sudden, the Jefferies Tube like, maybe nobody can operate on them for a while. Yes, but the possibility of getting everybody home when they are impossibly far from home is well worth the risk of sending somebody like the EMH back to the alpha quadrant. So so I love that part of it, and I love that they sort of end up at the end being able to recommunicate with their families. Now, let me back up and talk about some of the other cool things I love about this episode. I think that it's important and I will talk maybe more about this in a little bit about the actor who played

34:06 EMH two. However, in this episode, I really do like the interaction between Robert Briccardo's EMH and Andy Dick's EMH. It's almost like a It's not quite Abbot and Costello, but it's got that same kind of comedic flavor to it right where they're they're bouncing off each other, they're playing off each other. They both kind of have no idea what they're doing. They're really grumpy with each other. There's a lot of really cool, like comedic flare that sort of comes out in this episode between those two characters. We also have a very excellent kind of side story with Balana and seven of nine where Blan is finally you know, she's all. The episode literally starts with her talking to Chakota about how impossible it is to deal with seven of nine, and Chakota is like, listen, you're a senior off you got to learn how to deal with this and you got to figure something out. Sorry, figure it out, and she does. She eventually sits, and she talks to seven of nine, clues seven of nine into the fact that she is being rude, and I you know, seven of nine's personality is not that different from a lot of people I think in real life who just don't have enough self reflection in them. And it's through no fault of their own, it's just their own personality. It's their own mental makeup and that sort of stuff where they just don't know how they appear

35:40 to other people in the world. And the fact that Blana chooses to actually go and talk to seven of nine about it and kind of let her know what's going on. That's being a good friend. That's being totally responsible. That's not only kind of dealing with Balana's own internal you know, hang ups about seven of nine, but it's also just letting seven of nine know what's up. Girl. You are being rude people. Remember how people like look at you and they're kind of like seven of nine is like, yeah, because I was a borgon Blana is like, actually, it's not the problem. The problem is that you're just straight up rude. And I think that after this, as we go forward, like seven of Nne definitely holds on throughout all the way up until Picard comes out, holds onto some of that kind of stodginess or you know, that that kind of like not quite personable nature. But I think that she starts to evolve, and I do think this is this conversation that she has with Balana is one of the things that kind of gets her going in the correct direction. And then I guess, lastly, what I want to bring up is just Jane way you know, I love the fact that she gets really excited whenever an opportunity comes up. In Voyager. You know, they discover microwormholes, they discover communications relays, they do all of this stuff, and she always seizes the moment. She's

37:11 always like, you know what, this is a great opportunity. I'm going to see if I can get my crew home. Am I going to have to risk some lives to do it? Yes, but it is totally worth it because if I don't do it, it's going to take us, whatever it is, seven hundred and eighty something years to get back at maximum work, which, of course, like they'll never make it right. So unless she actually seizes the moment and does what she can to seize these opportunities, you know, they'd all be dead long before they get home. So Jane Wade does the correct things. She's a great captain. There's no question that in Voyager, and I've talked about this on the show before, that they write her a little inconsistently and like sometimes she's a little more cavaliers, sometimes she's a little confusing. But that's you know, that's that's shows. That's writing, that's like, what do I need for this episode, and how do I need to amend the janeway that we've seen in the past to fit the story that we're that we're trying to tell. So, you know, like I said, I don't think this is like the most epic or the most crazy episode of Star Trek Voyager ever, but man, there's some great character interactions.

38:19 We get to see a really cool ship in the Prometheus. We get to see Romulans as the bad guys on Voyager, which I think is the only time that this ever happens, right because they're in like different quadrants, right, And we get to see the introduction of the Herogion, who eventually become a really cool adversary of the Voyager. So that was Those are all great reasons that I decided that this would be a fun episode to talk about today. Good choice, Good choice. So I just watched it again yesterday and I really, I really enjoyed the I think it was more of an EMAH program. Robert Ricardo really had an opportunity to shine and he played really well off the other dude there, Andy Dick. And there's one particular scene where Andy Dick says something like I'm a I'm a doctor not a commando, and I just started laughing.

39:13 I was like, Wow, there you go, there's a throwbacks. I'm a pilot, not a doctor. That's like a riff on that. Too, right, So I thought that was good. But I really one of my favorite characters on Voyager was always been the Doctor. I always thought he was a very unique, different character and he was always one of my favorites. So to see him in the spotlight was I really enjoyed. I thought that the head Romulan guy wasn't Was that the same actor who who was in the Wrath of Khan? That is absolutely right, that's Judson Scott who plays in. I thought so his voice sounded familiar.

39:54 He's got the really severe face with those cheekbones and everything. Yeah, Judson Scott yep. I was watching ask I think that guy's familiar. The Starship Battle when the Prometheus goes into multi victual attack mode and wastes the USS Nebula whatever the name of that ship was, and then the two Defiants show up. That whole thing was just awesome. It was really cool. Yeah, And I really liked how when seven shocks the herogein, Dude, he's trying to turn them off so they can't send the doctor back and she zaps his ass. You know, I thought that was great. Yeah, So overall I enjoyed this episode. There was a lot of humor in it, a lot of action in it. We get to see the Romulans. So yeah, I think I'm with dominions. I think I'm with them A nine point five from Uncle Jim.

40:46 So how about you, Charles. Well, it's been a while, but I finally got a chance to watch it last night. Ah. One thing especially, I think for Eric's point, is a little bit of inconsistency with Jane Way and I think listening to many episodes of their podcast that there was definitely between the occasional different writers, the different directors that sometimes the characters kind of shifted personality. It's a little bit between episodes.

41:30 And Delta Flier's podcast right, yes, with Robert Duncan McNeil and Garrett Wong. Yes, And definitely I think shows the fact that there is there is inconsistency sometimes between episodes where they may go one direction one week and a different direction another week. But that's what you get with this kind of series. I thought it interesting that the EMH where the EMH and the Voyagers always a direct ready to deal with the situation. The Prometheus. EMH was just I'm here to help.

I wasn't thinking as much movies as much as you. I think reminded me of the Romeolin that we've seen from Enterprise or from Next Generation. But definitely kudos to this episode.

43:27 All right, how about you, David, what do you think about Messaging a Bottle Star Trek Voyager? I really liked it. One of my favorite top five Voyage episodes. I like the humor, I like the action, I like the direction that the episode went, and overall just the I like episodes that give good introduction and if they have to continue on like in parts later on in this or even multiple seasons to have a good climax. I really liked having those types of episodes, and this, in my personal opinion, was good introduction to not only the herosion or the ship or the plot that we're moving forward for the whole series was actually really well done. I think Andy Dick and Robert Pricardo did a very good job interacting with each other, probably one of the best, like Eric Houshane, a good comedic going at each other kind of things. And I really enjoyed watching and listening to a lot of the different grew ups that they had. You know, my favorite line was when they were being hailed from the Federation after that Romulan battle, which was really awesome by the way, probably one of my favorite Voyager battles. But my favorite

44:58 line is when Andy Andy Dick would saying you first when they were babe, oh, I think it was being hailed by Romulant. That's what ways. Sorry, I'm gonna watch. But yeah, so when it were being hailed by rominin for the first time and then uh, Andy Dick would basically saying you first, and to look on Robert face looked really genuine and it was just like, uh, he didn't know why you did that. But yeah, So to me, I liked the whole process of how this episode turned out, and I think it digged on well with canon. I like Canon, But overall, I'm probably gonna give this episode a nine point nine.

All Right, Well, there's a lot to like about this episode in terms of the concept of it, right. I like the whole fact that we, you know, because a lot of times the Voyager you're so trapped in a localized way to wherever they may be because you know, delta quatern right, So not a lot of chance to really interact with the Federation or see things that we're used to seeing in like from a next gen perspective, like Romulan warbirds, et cetera. Right, So it's really inventive of them to come up with a way of giving us a chance to have that and put the whole ticking clock thing on there with this communications relay, and so there's a lot of risk involved, right, It's like, well, they lose their only medical you know, medical provider, right, because that's it's it's not a good show unless there's an element of risk and jeopardy, right, there has to be some suspense and uncertainty involved, right, So all those elements are really great. I really like the kind of b story going on with Ballana and Seven too. This is the season where we first met Seven, right, if I'm not mistaken. Season four is when they brought that character.

47:00 So she's it's early days for seven of nine. She's still finding her way, and it's great to see that abrasiveness between her and Balana to start with, Right, they're still working that out, and she's still trying to you know, she's issuing commands come down, so you know, she expects everyone from you know her the captain to just come at her back and call. She doesn't really have you know, those you know, personal graces down yet. So I thought all that stuffs really really good. This is a standout episode for Robert Brigardo, right, who is very often is underused, and he gets a chance to really shine here. I mean, he's there's a lot of comedy in this episode, which he's famous for, but he also really does a lot of things, like a lot of heartfelt conviction where he's really conveying the stakes of things. I think he does a really good job with his performance here. I really particularly like it where he's just sort of, you know, having to do the undercover thing. I'm just here to scan you for a stomach virus romulans and just kind of you know, he has to get in there and actual should go up amidst the romulans you know, on the bridge and just sort of seem cool while he's trying to do something you know, untoward, right, And I thought that was really interesting. And he you know, he's got such an expressive face and he's very convincing, right, He's great. I mean, I'm really happy that he'll be one of the fixtures on Starfleet Academy next year. You know, he's a terrific actor, a good guy. I really like him a lot. I'm not a huge Andy Dick fan.

48:30 You know, let's put his personal travails on the shelf. We don't have to talk about those right now. I just his style of acting I don't care for very much. It's super muggy, right, and I don't mean, Wow, it's really hot out here. Muggy I'm talking about. He just mugs for the camera, so you know, you know, desperately would be how I would describe it. Right, So he's more of a median performer and he's not really an actor, and he just sort of, you know, he's trying to keep up with Robert Ricardo, but he's got Percardo's got so much more craft and skill and tools in his you know, theatrical toolbox. And and Andy Dick. I just kind of felt like it was stunt casting because news radio was sort of popular at the time and Andy Dick hadn't really gotten into a lot of his you know, troubles yet, and he's just not up to the same level.

49:26 And I just find him annoying, right, So, you know, it's just I can think of, like, you know, twenty other contemporary, uh you know, comedic actors from the day who would have been phenomenal. I would have much rather scene, you know, who could have you know, kept an equal rapport going with Percardo here. So for me, it's just he's kind of the weak link for me. I mean, he doesn't do a terrible job. I mean he's sort of you can he's trying but he's just not really an actor. He's he's, you know, a stand up guy, you know, and I just don't think he has the craft, and I kind of think it shows. So he was a weakling for me. It's just, you know, not everybody's gonna like everybody. You know that some actors are your favorites and some of you just don't care for. I'm sure he's got legions of fans who think he's great.

50:12 So at the end of the day, I think though, a pretty pretty decent episode. I think on the whole, in terms of keeping you engaged, the slow spots are Harry Kim and Tom Parris in I think that's where we drag a little bit much. And Tom Paris is like he gets nothing but exposition. He's got to like, you know, let me explain to you why this won't work and why I am frustrated rather than act frustrated. Right. I mean, Tom Parris is tough character sometimes in terms of how he was written, right, you know, and you know they hadn't really let Harry Kim bust loose a lot yet I don't think still it's just underused as well. But on the whole, pretty good episode. I would say, but again, thanks hugely to Robert Brigardo, you know, who comes in as MVP in this episode, so and very very cool to see our friend from Rathagon in there as well. I love that, you know, it's just almost unrecognizable under all the Romulin makeup. But I think it was just a lovely little grace note to see him in there, and very very cool. So I'd give this a seven. I think a seven is a pretty solid rating for this episode. Not one of my all time favorites for Voyager, but pretty darn solid and a lot of fun. And it's nice that they're able to flirt with comedy every now and then and yet still have a relatively serious episode, so it's not just all fun games.

51:31 So a good good work. So did they ever? Did they ever mention how the Romulins managed to capture a super ultra top secret starfleet vessel so easily like that? Was that? Ever? Was that ever mentioned? They did not talk about that? And they also there's almost no crew. I mean all the crew is dead basically, but there's like three guys right from what I could see. And I guess the assumption is I'm assuming it got lost in the editing right that that the ship is so advanced it doesn't need a really big crew, so that doesn't seem to be a problem, and that is part. Yeah, that's part of the sort of b cannon on the Prometheus is that it's a highly automated ship, so it does have a very very small crew, but they don't talk about that in this episode. And there's no way back in the nineties or back in the early two thousands, there's.

52:19 A dude, there's the dudes in sick bay with phaser heavy phaser burns. You've had heavy phaser burns. Well, the third day, the burdens with absolutely no visual indication. It's like he's got third degree burns, but he looks totally fine. I've never seen anyone else with like that ever on another episode, but here there it's okay, so want to know what happened? Yeah, actually, so whatever, But it's just you know, it's you expect to see the explanation there is. And also, did anyone else sort of feel it like that production design and Prometheus Bridge was just like thrown together like ten and it's it's like, practically it's so big and empty. I mean, it just seems like it's really, you know, like way empty, like spaciously underdecorated.

53:10 It's like, yeah, it's the same thing I thought, Why is this bridge so huge when there's no crow? I think I'm I think I know the explanation of why they made the ship that big. I believe further down in the Sherris they were planning on using them as the Prometheus to get to a voyager to bring him back, and so with the whole technology things upgraded everything like that, I think they were toucheding out to see how fast the ship can go. Maybe they got a little too close through Romulan border. Maybe that's probably why it took. Around, But that doesn't help me understand why the bridge is so empty, right, and so uh. Dude with a vacuum. Cleaner to be walking around in the background, right, it's kind of like, yeah, all kind of here to keep clean fellas.

Same place that all the other helms are. It's in the front one up on a little hill. I can't miss it, but that's minor stuff, right, and maybe yeah, it's like it's it's like we got to remind ourselves. I mean, I think we sometimes forget in the zeal of our star Trek Fantom, this is a freaking TV show, right, It's a factory produce product. And it's like if what were you saying earlier, Eric Kanar and like you know, yeah, it's like one actor in one season is going to pronounce it one way and another actor on another sea's going to pro nobody could possibly care less, right, Yeah, it's just like, you know, I don't think it's like there.

What do we have to do before we go to dinner? What do we have to get done so we get paid? That is literally all anyone cares about. Nobody is. It's really rare that there's like a person who's like the continuity person there may be to make sure that continuity the episode is correct. Hey, remember you had your shirt unzipped in that scene. We're gonna make sure zipped the same way for here, that's the continuity. But it's rare that he was keeping track of like well in other episodes, there's I mean, that's something that fandom just started doing. You know, discovery essentially post. Haste afterwards and before the Internet in the early days, going back to this, this is like nineteen ninety eight or whatever, right, whenever the hell this was, you know, really early days, no one was keeping track of that.

His father, Logan Ramsey Senior, of course, was the naval officer who became famous in radio history after sending the message air raid Pearl Harbor. This is no drill. That's right. He's the guy who announced to the world that Pearl Harbor had been attacked. But Logan Ramsey himself, of course, made a career of guest starring. Essentially, he guest starred in things like the original Kung Fu show, he was on Benachek. He was in several shows back in the days, and in fact he had a prominent role in hed, the nineteen sixty eight feature film Showcase for the pop group The Monkeys, And I dated a woman or a girl at that time in high school who was really into The Monkeys, And I actually knew who this guy was long before I knew he was in Star Trek.

Happy birthday as well to Philip Richard Allen born also March twenty sixth, but in nineteen thirty nine. He's the actor who played Captain J. T. Stebon in Star Trek three, The Search for Spock. He is known for numerous television and film guest appearances, including appearing beside Merrett Buttrick as David David Marcus in that movie. He had coincidentally already played a character named David Marcus himself in the nineteen seventy seven show Lou Grant. But his most consistent work was on the short lived television series called The Bad News Bears, which featured, of course, as well, Catherine Hicks. Philip Richard Allen born March twenty sixth, nineteen thirty nine lost back in twenty twelve at seventy two years old. Happy Birthday, Philip, Happy Birthday as well to John Stewart. He's the first actor to portray Alexander Rosenko in the Next Generation four season episode Reunion. For the remainder of the episodes on TNG, Roshenko would of course be played by Family Tie star Brian Bonsal, so most people kind of forget about John

He also made a few guest appearances in various television shows throughout the eighties and nineties, but he acquired his most recognition as an actor for playing Quentin Kelly on the sitcom series Grace under Fire. He left Grace Underfire in nineteen ninety six and never acted again. Unfortunately, we lost him way too early, at only thirty three years old. He was born today March twenty seventh, in the year nineteen eighty four, and we lost him in twenty eighteen, thirty three years old. Happy birthday, John. Now, we got a couple of huge banger birthdays to talk about here. The very first I want to go to is of course Dorthry Catherine Fontana DC Fontana. She's the writer and script editor who had the distinction of being one of the few people to have worked on the original series as well as the animated series Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. When ry, she often had to use pseudonyms, including Michael Richards and Jay Michael Bingham because she was a woman and she was worried about her stuff not getting used because she had a woman's name.

Michael Bingham for The Naked Now when she wrote that because she didn't like that episode and she didn't want her name associated with it. Deep Space Nine was actually her favorite Star Trek spinoff while she was alive. She especially liked the show's strong characters. She also worked as a writer for a few television series before Star Trek, briefly working as Gene Roddenberry's secretary first before she became a writer. The first episode of Star Trek that she ever penned was Charlie X, based on a premise by Roddenberry entitled The Day Charlie Became God.

There are ten toos this episode she wrote, but two of the most famous I think are probably Tomorrow Is Yesterday and Journey to Babel. Also, after the departure of Stephen Carabastos, she was promoted to story editor. She was twenty seven years old and became the youngest story editor in Hollywood at the time, and also one of the very few female staff writers of the day. She co wrote Encounter at Farpoint in the TG Days, earning a Hugo Award nomination. She co invented the el cars display concept and wrote four other episodes for that season before departing due to Roddenberry's lawyer. Let's not talk about that, however. Her last contribution to Star Trek was the DS nine episode Dax, in which a great deal of Jadzia Dax's backstory is actually fleshed out.

In fact, in nineteen seventy seven, she even did some work on a fourteen episode run of Logan's Run. If you do not know who DC Fontana is, you have got to go check her out. She wrote five episodes of Next Generation of course had that one credit for Deep Space nine, so a real giant of Star Trek. She was born on March twenty fifth, just a couple of days ago, in the year nineteen thirty nine, and we lost her back in twenty nineteen at eighty years old.

That's right, Leonard Nimoy Barn born yesterday, March twenty sixth, in the year nineteen thirty one. He, of course, is the actor best known for his Emmy Award nominated portrayal of Spock, the half human, half Vulcan officer and science officer aboard the USS Enterprise. He's the only member of the original series main cast who have been featured in the original pilot episode The Cage, which of course we didn't see until years later. Name only continued the role through the entire TOS tenure, including the animated series and the first six Star Trek films. He also appeared in Star Trek the Next Generation's fifth season episodes Unification one and Unification two in celebration of the twenty fifth anniversary of Star Trek being broadcast. He also left his mark on Star Trek's franchise as a director, writer, and producer, directing the film Star Trek three, The Search for Spock and Star Trek four, The Voyage Home. Later in the twenty first century, he would reprise his role as Spock in the movie Star Trek two thousand and nine, and then eventually showed up in twenty thirteen's sequel Star Trek in Darkness as well.

1:08:01 He was a military vet, super famous guy who started out on a dramatic scholarship and then moved out to the West Coast and kind of made his own way in the world. In December two thousand and two, so prior to Star Trek two thousand and nine, he announced his retirement from acting and his plans to spend his retirement as a photographer. On the second of June and twenty fifteen, NASA honored Nimoy when they named an asteroid after him four eight six'. Four nimoy and his legacy continued through a documentary film created by his Daughter julie and his Son, adam and of course narrated By John, delancey Titled Remembering Leonard, nimoy designed to raise awareness of chronic obstructive pulmonary, disease which of course is what he died from after smoking for fifty or so years of his. Life so we cannot express what an impact this man had On Star.
