8:08 So David, how did you How did you end up getting that role? How did you land that spot? I was in? I used to go bowling in La. I'd go out there every winter to act in TV shows, pilots, and I'm met a lady and we became friends. She's a casting director. And then I went back to New York and I was in a Broadway play and then when it ended, I just called her and I say, hey, how you down And I'm in La, just arrived. We going to go bowling? She goes, not today. I want you to come down the twentieth Century Fox. I know it's a paramount movie, but I want you to meet someone and you have to audition. I got one for you, trick cling On. And I said, I don't speak kling On.

9:05 You're She said, don't worry about it. She as with most actors, you have a couple of monologues, right, just go out and show them what you got one of those. So I did this scene that I had with on Broadway with Danny Iello, and he was an ex boxer running at Gymnasium and I came in this semi tough guy and ed O'Neill was in it, Mary with children and I and he I said, I can basically kick your kick everyone's ass, you know, real cocky until I get it at the end. And I did this powerful scene screaming at a yellow and I did it for Nicholas Meyer and a couple other people and they said thank you, and I left and then about I was out there for three weeks and then I'm in New York and then I get the proverbial call they want you for the part and can you come back out one of those? So that's how it happened, and I had it. As you all know, there's kling On is a language. So they hooked me up with the the linguists from Washington, d C.

Yeah, And he worked with me on certain things and I took a while, but he said, don't pull around and talk jibberish because they're gonna call you on it. They know this stuff. The old comedian Sid Caesar made a living, very convincing talking, but it was all jibberish. He said, don't pull the Sid Caesar or you're going to be you know, they're you're gonna boo you right out of the theater. And he worked me a few times and I got the hang of it. What's amazing. I have to hold a record for the shortest scene of an actor in Star Trek who worked one day and it was all me from eight in the morning, three hours of makeup eight in the morning until six in the evening, and that scene they just kept going back and forth, back and forth. They wanted to do it another way in this and they tried cutting it in with the cast with Michelle Nicholas, but that was done a month later. So I had to have people feeding me lines and whatnot. But it was one whole long day and that big lug next to me didn't

Finally Nimoy came up to me on a break because I'm staring at the screen at outer space and that's what you said earlier. What the only conversation we had, And he said, I have to ask you, what does a kling on, half drunk staring at the stars. What must be going through your mind, and I just said something stupid, like, well, I'm looking at that blue planet called Earth, and I heard they got this food called pizza, and he thought it was funny. He goes, you got something there, So he left it. After a while, he watched a little bit and everything's going fine, and whatever you're doing, keep on doing it, and he left.

14:27 And then when I wrote that TV pilot, I kept thinking of what he said. So I started taking seriously, what what am I thinking? What am I doing? And I came up and I wrote a pilot and it took me about five years where I was right. I had written five six novels. And I looked at that ten years later and I picked it up and I said, there's something here. And so I made some wild, wacky a romantic comedy where he does this big glove the name Lash. He suddenly his grandmother gives him a piece of cloth on her dye a deathbed, dying and take this, You're going to be a different He was a big, tough warrior and when she gives him this cloth to where it turns into a robe, and he is going to be a different kind of warrior because he's a peaceful warrior. When he goes to battle, he can't kill anymore, and they call him a coward, a trader. They throw him in jail, but he's not. He just there's something bigger in the universe for him to do other than behead everyone with his sword. And finally they said, look, we're going to give you a second chance. This very ferocious planet called Abadon, We're going to go scout this

I just threw it out there to some Star Trek groups and I had one week. Last week, I had three two hundred responses. This is different, it's fresh's we love Star Trek. But this could be a little diversion for Star Trek in their portfolio or a standalone series on its own. And it doesn't infringe upon Star Trek. It actually celebrates it. We'll see what happens. So in the process of getting some people who read it, but at least from the Star Trek fans, they think there's something there, so that's encouraging and I owe it to Leonard ning boy splock himself. I would, and I prefaced that the whole way through what I wrote. But he really sometimes when the seed is planted and it doesn't sprout in all of our lives until a decade later. So David, how long what was the process like to become the sleepy Klingon? Like, what did you go through to become him? You had to you had to get measured for a head, you had to get fitted for your uniform, you had to learn klingon. You know what kind of mindset did you have to go through to get into this character?

I had to go in another day to do a pros thesis and they make a mole for you and only it fits you. And when it was over, there were a couple things. And she goes with her green eyes in this costume she had on. Oh my god, is she a gorgeous She's about six foot. We walk in the common I'm six three and a half this six' five boxer on one, side mean on the other you could not you could hear a pin drop in the.
