That's because it's Halloween and this is our usually our special Halloween show that Charles and I will put together and will usually do a great pumpkin Charlie Brown and just kind of hang out and have some fun with you guys. But since tonight happens to be Halloween and it happens to be a show night, here we are, and so I wanted to start the show and put you guys in a good spooky mood. Dull. That's why we have the Halloween Team to start the show. So before we go too far, though, I just want to say that what happened to my I lost you guys? Can you guys still hear me?

3:10 Yeah? Okay, my board's kind of freaking out. It must be those gremlins showing up again. So it is Thursday, October thirty, first, twenty twenty four, Happy Halloween, Everybody, Episode six hundred and ten. Before I get too far, I just wanted to say that last week, at the last moment, my father had passed away. And I just couldn't do the show that we had scheduled with John Simpson, who plays young Sterrih and Star Trek five the Final Frontier, and I was looking so much forward to talking to him because I think Star Trek five is one of the best Star Trek movies, and so I really wanted to talk to him, but we had to cancel that show. And I apologize for that, and John understands, and we are going to swing around and hook up with him again, and he said he'll come back on the show. So I apologize for that. And I just wanted to say thank you to everybody who sent condolences and prayers for the death of my father. It meant so much to me that you guys care that much, So thank you. I appreciate it.

5:07 Doing all right, and boy enjoying the Halloween type weather we're having. We up up here in Vermont were breaking a record. It was seventy seven degrees today on Halloween, broke a record. We went out and got some baby roofs and some snickers to give away, and we didn't get a single trick or treater. So we sat down and we watched The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown and ate some Halloween candy. So that that's what we did before the podcast. So it's really really nice up here in Vermont. Record heat right now, but it's going to be cold and it might snow on the weekend.

And ninety one percent of her fans are looking forward to it or have been watching it. Which is a really good number I might add, and. I know there are a few out there that aren't animation fans or not comedy fans, so I understand that nine percent probably that group who doesn't want to watch it.

10:46 But kay, second poll, what character would you like to see more developed in lower decks? Fifth season and final season or at least final season on Paramount plus. Top one in this group was okay, we head in there to lend Tianna, Carol Freeman, Shacks, and Jack Ransom, and the top the list was to Lynn. Everybody wants more about our new vulcan. Seventeen percent would like to know more about our doctor. There's a few things I don't want to learn more about our doctor. A eleven percent want to hear more about our captain, Carol Friedman, ten percent or interest in Shacks. I wonder how many of them want Shacks and Tiana Tianni in there? And six percent or innocent Jack Ransom. Should it interesting to see what character development we do get this season?

12:05 Yeah? Now I didn't put. I tried this to make this poll without the main characters in it, which is why you don't see Boimler and Mariner in there. And ten dems because I figure they're gonna be because they're the stars of the show. They're gonna get their moments anyways, So I was curious to see what of the non main cast people were most interested. And I pretty much agree with what the fans had to say on this one. Yes to Linn's one of my favorite characters. I'm always curious to see what she comes. Up with, and I'm not gonna come up with some good stuff. Yeah, I'm actus pried Jack Wrench and didn't make one of the top tiers. I was actually hoping he would be up there, but well.

A little trivia question though, which I'm sure you guys are aware of, But Jack Ransom is the first officer on the Soritos and he's married to who is he married to? He's a name. He is married to the first officer on Strange New World, Chen Riley. Yeah, that's his wife. So we have two first officers living together in the same house. Interesting, huh?

Wes Huntington, I personally think this movie will be great, but based upon the stereo reaction from the teaser trailer, I doc paramount will greenlight more made for streaming Star Trek Films. Top fan Nel Kessler. Anything Michael Yeo does is absolutely fantastic. Mike Schaeffer, it looks like it's going to be very entertaining, and I'm sure that Michael ye will do a fantastic job. I just hope the story turns out being more like a Mission Impossible than Suicide Squad.

15:39 That would be more in keeping with the canon with section thirty one being a clans big Clanstegne government or government organization. Definitely saying very mixed reviews, but I think it's going to get I think it's going to get some extra attention from non Star Trek fans because there are people, I think out there that is Michelle Yeoh is in anything. They'll watch it exact. I thought that I had downloaded the clip the trailer.

16:20 I thought we played it on the show when it came out. I must have deleted it because I don't have it here, so I can't. I was planning on playing it for you guys because it's been about three months since it dropped, and I can't. I don't have it. So we're just gonna we. Did we did get new we did, we did not. We did not get a teaser from New York. We got a day from New York, and I believe it was January. Yep, we're gonna, We're gonna talk about that. I've got a story about that that we're going to get to. What what What's I got to say? So here's my take on it. Section thirty one. I wanted to go back and put them all in chronological order, but I just just don't have the time. Section thirty one from Star Trek Enterprise, the two part episode where we find out about the Klingons the ridges melting, was it divergence?

17:20 I think yeah, divergence was And that we find out that Malcolm Reid works for Section thirty one. And that's the earliest reference to Section thirty one in Star Trek lore, which is before the Federation is even formed. Section thirty one was already there, and of course we see it heavily on Discovery, but a Discovery they're out in the open, they have their own ships, they have their own combatges. They're out in the open. And then on Space nine they're like hidden in the shadows and they're lurking and they're not as prevalent. So Section thirty one is throughout the start, even in Star Trek Into Darkness, Appal Marcus is the head of Section thirty one and they build a vengeance. So Section thirty one is there. You know it's around So Michelle Yo, her character on Discovery. I thought it was one of the best arcs on Discovery was Michelle Yo's arc from the Evil Colt kelpiean Eating Emperor and then she turns the corner gets her redemption arc.

18:36 Carl for those of you who don't know, Carl is the name of the Guardian of Forever, Carl test. And she passes the test, the morality test, and Carl says he's gonna send her somewhere where she can be useful and where she's needed. Now we don't know where he's sent her, but we do know from the trailer that Rachel here at the future Captain of the Enterprise c from the TNG episode Yesterday's Enterprise is there and she's a lieutenant at that time, so it takes place before Yesterday's Enterprise. I'm sure there's someone out there that can look up the date when she was born and went up, but it's before Yesterday's Enterprise. But the question becomes, because it's the Guardian of Forever, did he send her keep?

19:30 Did he send her to an alternate universe the prime universe? Where is it? Where did he Where did he send her. I guess we'll have to. That's the question we don't know, you know, probably. Answered by the movie. Now we did see her when when he sends her back and tests her. I think it's her son. I think that. I'm not positive. I'm just this is just me, you know, blowing smoke. And I think that she kills her son, and that's what she's regretting, and that's the redemption that she makes when Carl sends her back. She's not gonna kill everybody. I think her son's name was Leto, if I remember from Discovery, And we don't know exactly what happened because all we see as a bloody knife and a puddle of blood and she steps in it.

20:24 And they never made it perfectly clear, but I was on the assumption that she killed her son and then adopted Michael as her Surahgate. I mean, well, I they weren't clear on it, but that was the impression that I got when I watched that episode. And in the trailer episode and the trailer for section thirty one, they show the young Emperor and she's got a bloody sword. So I think that's where that flashback is going to take us. Again, I have no crystal ball. I'm just spitball. But that's what I think. We're going to see that backstory develop of her. Well, yeah, I have. I love Michelle Yo. And when she kicks Lorca in the face and he's standing behind her blows my mind. I want to see I want to see Michelle Yo kick the crap out of some people. I mean, you know, I want to see some really cool choreographed fight scenes like we saw her on Discovery just showing off her moves.

21:35 But we didn't get to see much in the trailer. Was it was only a minute in twelve seconds. We get some glimpses, some glimpses. They played some funky music some is it rap music or something? I don't know. I wasn't wasn't very impressed with whoever put that trailer together. But Michelle Yo is gold and I'm really looking forward to seeing what they do with her and where they put her. Because the other thing is didn't ask Tyler became the leader of Section thirty one right after she left, and he said he was going to make Section thirty one more transparent, and instead it went the other way and became completely invisible, like it was cloaked and didn't exist anymore, So I don't know where Michelle Yo's character is going to fit in with that. With how they ended Discovery season two, I myself, I'm looking forward to seeing how they do it. I really want to see Michelle Yo's character really grow and thrive. So that's that's my hake on it. What about you, Charles, I'm church the storyline.

22:52 I'm really curious how they take the storyline and how they how they explain the history, and how they work her into the current timeline wherever she is. Yeah, I wonder if at least a couple of times so we can review it. But I'm still gonna watch it. It's because it's a Star Trek movie and I want to see what happens and how it affects, how it affects what we already know. And wouldn't that be great if Carl showed up again the Guardian Oak Forever.

23:34 Yeah, well, I have a question about that about Carl. Yes, what's going on? What do you think has happened well with Carl? Well? I was always wondered, man, because I mean, you know, City on the Edge of Forever, that's Harlan Ellison's baby, right, I mean it is right. I mean, do you guys, are you familiar with Harlan beyond that particular episode. Well, I've I've talked in great length with David Gerald about David about Harlan a complete utter hatred of how they destroyed his masterpiece. Oh right, So you know it's just it's and it's it's it's it was Harlan's deal, right, he came up with it, right, I mean, it's his thing, and I would I mean, I just I can Can you imagine?

24:23 Can you imagine what Harlan Ellison would think if he thought that some you know writer he'd never heard of, decided to regive the you know, the Guardian, this stately timeless entity, a moniker of carl and just rebaffed the whole concept of it. Harlan would get a butcher knife and plunge it in their head. I mean, he would just be out of his mind. So I think it's just it's one of those things where it's just like, you know, it's it's like it's like if somebody I don't know, it's just it's just very odd to me when somebody takes somebody else's work after they're gone and sort of jazz is it up for another franchise as well.

25:05 We had the same thing with Harry. Mud we did yeah, and we kind of also do not think that that was necessarily super well handled as well. I mean it's just I don't know, It's just people love to recycle and you know, springboard off of other people's work. But I don't always necessarily think that's the greatest call because it kind of tends to you know, don't you have any or your own ideas? Can you come up with something original? It's just like this whole yeah, redoing everything is gets a little tiring, and it's like, where is the original storytelling without having to constantly be going back and mine the stuff that's already come So I I really, really really if they don't do Carl quote unquote again, I would be just fine with that.

25:55 My main thing is kind of echoing off of what you know, Charles said. I could not care less if there's a bunch of studs and stuff with Michelle Yell. I want a good story. I want to justify them this movie existing. I really hope it's not just you know, fill in the blanks, paint by numbers. I hope it's well written, and then it adds something to the franchise, into the legacy of the Georges character. And it isn't just you know, hey, let's throw this together and hope it flies. It's just tecrits wanted to be good man, I wanted to be well written, and the trailer it didn't really aspire those.

26:36 They had. Apparently before COVID, they already had a writer's room up and working on a series section thirty one series, and they already had several scripts already done it in the bag. And then COVID came and that was it done deal. And then Michelle Yo was off doing stuff and couldn't commit to a theory and it ended up being a movie. So we'll have to wait see, but I'm definitely looking forward to it. How about you, What do you think? We haven't heard from you yet, David. Oh, yeah, I was just kind of listening to see what you guys say, and I was gonna kind of, like, you know, go back and kind of get my points. First. I want to say that you Jim mentioned that he wouldn't it be cool if Corls showed up? And I actually think he will show up, not throughout the whole movie.

He's probably just gonna show up at the beginning of like they're gonna kind of like redo the scene again where she she sends her through the portal, and then I will probably be. Like kind of like the introduction and the death of Spock deal there. I can imagine him doing that just so that they can introduce of like, wow, she ended up in this portal or a different timeline kind of thing, So I would imagine that would be a thing. But also while she's going through a time portal, that explains why Section thirty one is different in each series. I don't know if this was planned or not, but you mentioned that Enterprise was before the Federation, so what if I don't know.

28:14 I mean Section thirty one is supposed to be an intelligent Bureau kind of thing, right, So I was thinking, what if they got their hands on time travel technology could come true? You know, I mean, it could be a thing. But the thing is is that before the Federation they contacted Malcolm mood What if he was the only one during that entire series that were recruited during his timeline, so maybe it was just him. So maybe it wasn't technically founded before the Federation. It was just kind of like brought to them, but nobody really knew about it. Maybe the reason why they were so shadowy and deep Bay nine was because they were aware of the death loom of the Dominion, right, the Dominion War that was about to happen, so they were trying to be all secret about that. They weren't really mentioned much in Voyager. That's because they were off an adults quadrant.

29:06 But as far as pos you know, I mean back in the day sixties, they didn't really have that thought up. But they're kind of bringing it back into the Strange of the World era. I believe there was an episode that talked about section thirty one, I think, but I don't know. It's just the idea of time travel. You could come up with almost any kind of story plot and everything like that. It would be kind of fun to get into, and I thought it would be interesting if that's the way they played it. You know, it wasn't intentional, but it just happened to be that way. And now it's like it's kind of like the clean on Head, right, they'd made up a story and that's how it happened. So I think if you think about it, David, Section thirty one that we've seen so far has always had more advanced technology than what the Federation had. Do you remember the travel, Well, that they could very well have that too, because remember uh Covich was actually Daniels from Enterprise, and so it's possible that they have more advanced technology than they're allowing the Federation to know about. We'll have to wait and see. But while I have while I have a Paul with us though, because I know Paul is going to be cutting out early to go trick or treating, right.

So Nacelle tells us this is going to cover the era all the way back from the original series, all the way up to Star Trek Enterprise, the films and everything the franchise is known for, celebrating the beauty of exploration and analyzing ethical dilemma. Is based on societal issues, with a focus on characters that we've never really had produced before, as well as roles and outfits which have never been produced.

So with all these different characters cameos unforgettable moments, there's going to be all kinds of waves of releases supposedly that will elude include characters from next Gen Rathakon Star Trek three Search for Spock Voyage Home Final Frontier. Jim's very excited about that this could be finally get a Sidebok action figure Man and Munich could happen, Undiscovered Country, deep Space, nine generations, YadA, YadA, YadA. Star Trek Nemesis. We can just forget about that, and we don't need to waste the molding. Guys, let's not even go there. As a lifelong Star Trek fan, this is one of the folks who is from Nassel. I believe Brian volkweis founder of Nissel. Here we go.

Here as a lifelong Star Trek fan who somehow made it through chekhof setting el scene at the rife old age of six, Thanks Mom, who would go on to name his company after a term every Star Trek fan is familiar with Nacell starting to think I'm in the best hol of Deck program ever made. This has all been so surreal. I promise all the fellow fans out there that we will deliver that deep custs we've been waiting decades for and keep the surprises coming to four penches are standing by and again that's Brian Volgweise, founder of the Nacell company. So what are we talking about here, Brian? The Nasales figures are what we call one to twelve scale, so this is basically the six to seven inch accent action figure at the scale what we've seen before with Star Wars Black Series currently super popular, the Necka figures, and then if you go back fifteen years or so ago, there's a huge range of figures in that scale from art Asylum, Flash, Diamond, Select Right did quite a few six inch figures, most of which I still have from that era there, so there's quite a few of these, right.

33:58 He hopes that they'll be very articulated, right, very highly articulated, like the Black Series figures are for Star Wars, and are being designed to be affordable. And here's where the irony kicks in with hopes to be available for under thirty dollars each, which I know that sounds like a lot, but retail MSRP for the Black Series guys for Star Wars is twenty four to ninety nine, right, and deluxe figures sometimes get closer to thirty, so it's not totally out of range. If you're listening Brian Volkweiss. The way to get away with that is you cram them full of accessories. So if it's not just a figure, right, you're getting a bunch of additional accessories as well that you can't get anywhere else. Then to fans a pony at that extra five bucks, they'll be happy to spend twenty nine ninety nine or whatever it is. But it's very interesting because they debuted some prototypes right at a comic con just this last Saturday at the panel, And if I had to guess, you know, what do you think the first wave of figure would be. We're going to do eight figures, guess what they would be? I don't think I would have guessed any of these all, right, because they are none of them are like lead characters at all. They're all very obscure, right, I mean they're recognizable, but they're just like wow. I mean, they're not going to start off and say, do the whole bridge grew right?

35:19 Or do you know every captain from every aspect of the franchise? What am I talking about? Here? We go? Okay, Captain Jellico from Star Trek Next Generation's chain of command Ronnie Cox, Right, we're seeing all over the place in current versions of Star Trek right lower decks. We've seen him Prodigy, we've seen him young Peter Preston from Wrath of Khan, from the engine room, who Scotty's holding his body. You know, he gave him he wouldn't leave his post, you know, Peter Preston. It's a very strange choice, right, and. You know what's all about that one though. What's funny is that he was in the theatrical cut. He's only seen in the director's cut.

36:05 Right, Yeah, I think you're right, Yeah, yeah, I mean it's hard to remember, yeah, because I think you saw him. I think you saw him. But he had like he had a bigger death scene in the theatric and the Director's got. I mean you see him in the original version like he's oh, oh, sir, like the Captain Kirk or whatever, right, you know, kind of a brief intro. But then I think they cut most that's seen out later. And they cut. But in the director and the director's cut you get that whole interaction between him and Kirk and him and Scotty when he dies. So yeah, the director's cut he has a bigger scene. Yeah, but he's still it's a very minor and niche character, right, very interesting, very val Chris from Search for Spock. Okay, so you have some kling on stuff going there.

36:48 Figuring that one up for sure, I know you will be. And here's time Lee where we're just this next one. We were just talking about section thirty one. Captain Rachel Garrett from Yesterday's Enterprise. Right, very popular, cool character. I mean, that's getting getting close to the sweet spot of what I think fans are looking for, right where it's like kind of a little bit more of an iconic representation, right, Peter Preston. I don't know. I don't you know, as we'll say in the Toy Collecting Biz, kind of maybe has Pegwarmer written on it there, you know, I don't know that the Peter Preston's figures are going to come flying off the shelves. Rachel Garrett, though, I can see people hunting that down. Likewise, this next one, because this is a controversial choice, but I can see people wanting This character is two vix from Star Trek Voyager, right, because two Vixes comes up time and time again. People love talking about the character. He's very interesting, none of these are big stars, okay, so I'm guessing that perhaps likeness rights falls into the choices of characters here. Maybe they were able to get a deal to do these cheaper because they're not like big name above the credits actors who you need a big percentage of the rights.

37:57 Or what have you. The one exception to that is coming up next here is Mirror Archer from Star Trek Enterprise in a mirror darkly right, so Mirror Archer. So there's there's one name captain that we have from all of the different enterprises there, mister Bacula and Wayoon from Star Trek Deach Space nine rounds out the is that eight term? I missing one? I've got one more coming, sorry, one more coming after Wayne. Wayne's a great choice though, because everybody loves that character. And here's a good one because this one here is more of an a lister if you will. Captain Sulu from Star Trek sixth the Undiscovered Country, and I would just say to Brian Volkweis, he'd better be coming with his tea service, said Brian, because that's what everyone is those skates. Captain Zulu with calmly having his tea or his coffee and they get those shock waves come through and start rattling it. So that would be a muss.

38:50 I mean, I would for sure pick up Captain Sulu. I will probably pick up all of these if they come out. I really it's a really interesting I would say bold move to have all these different, you know, more obscure niche characters here. I really hope that they dig into the original series. Right. There's so many cool characters from original series have never been produced, right, like the Salt Vampire for one, right, Christopher Pike in his wheelchair. Right, classic characters like that that are iconic, okay, and have never been given the deserving figure representations that they do. So I really hope that if he's going to go for those kind of classic cuts. Because the guy sounds like a fan, right. He named his company after you know, a piece of Star Truk, right, so he sounds like he's definitely a fan. I just hope he has the backing and the tenacity to do better than Playmates did a couple of years ago when they tried to resurrect an action fixture line, because man, we had such high hopes for that and they screwed it up.

Why would they ruin the cliffhanger by showing us how the cliffhanger ends before we get to see it. I was disappointed by that they could have shown us any other clips. But that having said that, though it's an outstanding clip. Uh, there's Gorn fighters everywhere, the Enterprise is being as they're really well done. Uh space battle. It did feel a little bit Star warsy to me. I don't know if you guys thought that, but the Goran fighters with the three wings spinning around reminded me of of the the Star Wars fighters there.

1:19:24 That the droids were flying and they were spinning around and shooting, and a little Star warsy. They did another trope in this which bothers me because Star Trek tends to do this a lot. When the when when they want to make the federation, when they want to put our crew in danger, the first thing they do is make the enemy ship a super ship that we're not penetrating their shields, we can't penetrate their frequency. You know, there's so much better than we are. They destroyed Captain Patel ship and we can't battle them, And I just I don't like when they do that. It's like, let's make the enemy super enemy, and that's kind of like, all right, it's trophy. Star Trek does it all the time.

1:20:08 But I still enjoyed this clip, and I'm really really looking forward to seeing how they pull it off, how they rescue because if you guys remember how it ended, half of the crew was on the planet. I think Scotty was down there too, wasn't he. I think we got back with Ulla because they were trying to come up with some plans. But the rest of the beamed over to the going trip. They were trying to be the Empride, but they're going intercepted them and they got him right. So I'm looking forward to seeing it. It's a bit trophy to me, but it's still very well done. And because the way it ended, it make they made Pikes seem very indecisive. You guys remember how it ended, Yeah, the cliffhanger. Pike's like, what should we do when they stop it right there, and it makes it seem like he doesn't know what he's doing. But they they cut it at that moment intentionally. This particular clip actually starts that moment right there, so it flows more naturally. So I enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to it myself.

Uh, and and Ortegas don't have plot armor because neither one of those characters are ever seen again, so those two could could conceivably die, you know, so, and neither does the engineer chief tell you she doesn't have any plot armor either, because we all know who becomes the Chief Engineer or the Enterprise and it ain't her, so she doesn't have any plot Those characters. Number number one doesn't have plot armor either.

But but yeah, that clip I had to kind of rewatch because I'd forgotten most of it, and when I saw it, it brought me back and I was like, oh, right, right, right right. But you mentioned that it felt like Star Wars, and I'm like, no, not really because and to me, this whole thing where the captain is communicating with the crew, which literally the first time I've seen Star Trek do this like this in a heat of a situation, you know, everything that risk, and I'm thinking, you know, this is actually probably a really cool way of doing an episode Star Trek in general, So it didn't really feel like Star Wars at all to me. And when you're saying that the fighters were flying around, I mean, those ships are pretty big. They're not really fighters size. They're actually more like, I don't know, they're bigger than a fighter, that's all. I know. They got more than one person on board. But to me, it's like just it felt like Star Trek and it felt like it was well done.

And Paul at Paul Charles brought up a really interesting point where the characters and the other trailer, you know that they're gonna still be around, but now since we might know that someone might get killed off, I'm almost wondering now if the Otegas might actually get killed off or at least get like super wounded or something to the point where she's gonna have to like step aside for a while. Maybe she has her own wheelchair box or something. I don't know, but to me, I'm just kind of wondering now if uh, the doctor could what's her name, Christine Christina. I think I'm wondering now if she is going to like get so traumatized where she's going to want to leave the Enterprise for a while and then you know, probably not show up for a while.

I'm just throwing some theories out there because I have a feeling someone important is about to die in this upcoming episode, and that's probably where Pike is going to start to question I can't.

So he's not really technically at one hundred percent here trying to captain his ship, and so he's gonna end up getting someone killed one way or another, and so he's probably gonna have some sort of doy arc. Well, he's regretting everything, and this whole situation is going to lead up to possibly a season four of him inside that wheelchair, so that would be interesting to see. But I think that's a little too soon in my opinion.

We don't see her take it again, so she'll go somewhere and uh, you know, Chapel Chapel Lze and goes with Corby and we know that from last season.

But she won't die, She'll she'll be back later and Benga is on TOS, so even though he's only in two episodes, we know that he comes back, so he he can't die. George Kirk he can't die either because he died in the TOS episode, so he'll be back. And and there was a bunch of nameless people that got taken as well, and I'm sure there are. Yeah, he around every year, check around.

Yeah, so it sounds like it could be the Nameless Crew or the Red Shirt, I guess, but yeah, it kind of brings that crew Nameless down a little bit now that you think of it, because for some reason, I thought Uno was gonna survive because I remember watching the cage and I had forgotten that the cage was actually before all of this, so it was like, oh, yeah, so she might bite the Dutch. Maybe I don't know. And also we know that Pike actually ends up back on with the Telosians on Tallows for so we know what his we know what his state is because we see that in the cage with a way of the Telosians take him and put him there with Viena. So he gets his happy ending. He won't, but he will end up in the wheelchair when he goes back. When he goes back with Vina, he'll have his youth back again, so he gets a happy ending.
