Yeah, and of course to revisit our good pals, the Augments tonight, so we'll see what they've been up to. Yeah, it's gonna be gonna be a lot of fun. You know, I feel like I would like to be friends with the Augments. I wouldn't want to be enemies of the Augments, right.

15:51 So our first poll question, David has put together a little little show for you guys, and there it is right now, and Eric, what is our first poll question? As if people can't guess from that graphic. Well, there are a couple of different ideas being floated for potential new Star Trek series, one being called Legacy, which is kind of featuring some of our Legacy characters that we see in the poster on the screen there, and then another one being called United, which is kind of focused around the Formation of the Federation, potentially bringing back Captain Jonathan Archer Admiral perhaps Jonathan Archer a la Scott Bacula. So our question this week was which new Star Trek series would you like to see? Legacy, the one with all of your standard kind of TNG characters plus Picard, etc. Beyond or United, the Jonathan Archer slash Formation of the Federation prequel project, And fifty three percent of our responders, just over half said that they would like that United project, So I think that's kind of cool.

17:07 I think Legacy had an awful lot of steam behind it for a little while, particularly when Picard was going on and people were like, I want more Captain seven of nine, you know, and other characters like that. But this concept of kind of like the formation of the Federation and a better ending to the Enterprise arc than Season four's terrible finale I think has a lot of gas and you know, just barely edged out the other option here. I bet if we take this pull in another year, I bet it's tipped even more towards United. I agree too, I'd rather see the United one myself. And you know what, Eric, I'm one hundred percent with the Minions on this one. As great as Legacy was, and as awesome ap as Captain seven and Rafe and and that entire crew that they put together was, I want to see United. To me, Legacy would just be an extension of just another strange new world, their TNNG type alien planet of the Week thing, whereas United, I think, goes where everybody wanted Enterprise to go but didn't go.

18:15 Let's see, let's see the Federation formed, Let's see them come to the table, let's see them build what we know is going to be a great, great thing. So I am one hundred percent behind United. So I'm right there with Dominions. How about you, V Yeah, I think so. But I was just I was just thinking, as you were talking about all the all the negative comments that because there's so many out there that people are leaving about Starfleet Academy not even having seen it. So I'm hoping that United will receive some kinder remarks, although there probably will be those who want to hang on, and you know, I understand hang on to the familiar characters that to have in legacy. But yeah, I think I think I'm looking forward to United, and totally not because I had a huge crush on Scott Vacula when he was on Quantum Leap has nothing to do with that.

19:21 Scott Baculo has been making the rounds and he's been dropping hints all over social media, so I think there's I think there's something going on there. I really really do. How about you, Paul, I'm very curious to hear what you think. I'd like to show that has the best writing, you know. I mean it's just like if they okay, that's really because they say they. Had comfortable writing, would your concept interest see the most? I think I could go either way. It depends. I mean, right now, they're just they're just the most premises, right, I don't really know that we know what they're going to do with them. I tend to lean a little bit more towards United, but you know, I need to know what that means.

I mean I've heard one person did a thing with Bacula I read about that said that they wanted it to be more like and or right the Star Wars show, which you know, I think a little bit darker, kind of more political. They describe it as being more like a Manchurian candidate or you know, more like a seventies conspiracy thriller. It was one of the things I read, and the angle intrigues me. If they go that way, it would be great, right, But I need to know where they're going, right. I mean, I think both of them have great potential, right, they could certainly be great. I mean so funny how quickly the worm turns right. I mean like a year ago, everyone was so oh Legacy, you know, everybody was so happy about that love. You know, it's the seven of nine. Everyone was just you know, all over themselves, you know, for the new Starfleet captain there that people like to make fun of, you know, but everyone is just could not wait to get Legacy going.

21:12 And now it's just like, oh, yesterday's tomato is right. It's just funny how certain quarters the sandem so quick to sure. So yeah, Paul can we I would love to just like talk about that just for a second, because this is a relatively new phenomenon that I am fascinated by, wherein the fans appear, at least to themselves, to have some sort of influence over future development of things, which I think is what people credit to shows like Strange New Worlds, right, because people were like, Hey, this Captain Pike on Discovery, I love it. You should do a show about him and his crew, and they ended up doing it, and so I'm I'm curious, like, do you think Paramount is listening to the fans? Do you think that like there's a good chance that like future I know, this is all conjecture, We've got no as Like what's the feeling.

22:06 I think that it's possible, right that they're listening. I mean, I think these days, more often than not, I think that studios are listening to the fans a little bit more, right, I really do. Development's really crazy, though, and it's very political. It just gets a little bit nuts, right. I Mean, I think if you were going to jump in and do a Star Trek legacy show, you have to move on that really really quickly, right within say a year of that last season of Picard, right, but I think you know, the ship has sailed. But you know, at this point, I don't see it happening. I don't think, frankly, either of these will see the light of day. I really don't, guys. I'm sorry to sound cynical here, but but you know, just this week, I don't know if we're going to talk about this later on the show, but the brain Trust or their Paramount decided they're going to close the or in any future development of any JJ you know, Kelvin Timeline movies. Right, We've been they've been trying to get a Kelvin Timeline movie going for like what three four five years now, and they just can't do it. I just don't. I think that they are just you know, you know, if I was to drive over to Paramount today, right, I'm pretty sure that above the logo, you know, like a coat of arms, the phrase shitter, get off the pot would be prominently you know, encrusted in gold. I just don't think that they can. They're so nerve racking about making a bad call, and they talk about things, and they get going and

23:37 this and that, and then they just never do it right. So and they're probably twice as nervous to wait and see what kind of reaction you know, Starfleet Academy gets, and then they'll they'll pivot again, right, and oh, well we did this and this seems like this is popular, so we'll make this instead. But having a premise that they have conviction in and that they can and develop and say, well, we believe in this, and so we're gonna do it. I just don't think that they work that way. I think they're very neurotic and they's seat of you know, they're a leaf in the wind over there. So whatever they think is the new hot thing today, you know, six months from now to be totally different. So it's just like, you know, everyone turned on what's the Captain though from the quote unquote legacy, right, the guy there was a new character, the jerk from Chicago or whatever. Uncle Jim can tell me the character. Yeah, sure, I thought he was going to be the new character. Right, the guy was ready. He was very popular on social media, right, I thought he was going to be, you know, carrying the franchise, be right, you know with him and uh and and Jerry Ryan. But no, you know, so it's just and even Uncle Jim he's just like you were all about Legacy a year or so ago. Now you're like one hundred percent everybody one hundred percent for this one, right, You're really totally forgotten it and you're willing to move on.

24:57 So it's like the fantastic super Fit man. I mean as well, you know, we have a really finicky, nervous studio like Paramount. I don't think you're going to see any of the stuff happen. I don't disagree with you there, but I doubt that it has much to do with the finickiness. I think it has more to do with the fact that they are unable to be nimble and react to things in real time anymore, which is perhaps was possible back in the day where you know, as season four is being filmed of Star Trek the Next Generation, Season five is already being written, and then they can just follow it up right on the cotails there. We don't do that anymore.

25:37 It's like you're saying, we play a season, we see how good the season is, we allow the numbers to come in, we wait a year while we write the next season, then we start filming the new season. Then the new season comes out. So there's no there's no such thing as like momentum anymore. Legacy. The good news is is I think that we saw there was momentum, which is, you know, from Discovery to Strange New Worlds, right, because Strange New World's got such a hot reaction. I mean when we had Pike on Discovery, right, the people went nuts for that. They wanted that immediately, and you know, Paramount couldn't produce it fast enough. They they I think it was a good move, as we're seeing, right, But I don't think that they seem to operate with that much zeal anymore.

26:20 Do you. Weally agree, Yeah, they don't have the ability to do that anymore. I think you're gonna I think you have a better chance at seeing United simply because Scott Bacula is under contract with them, and so he's one of the most popular actors. And you got to look at it from their point of view. Honestly, they don't care about you and me. They want people to subscribe to their streaming service. So they're after people that know Scott Bacula from NCIS or whatever and you know, or Quantum Leap, because they know we're all going to watch it because how are we going to bitch about how bad it is if we don't watch it, So they know we're all going to tune in and watch it whether we like it or not. It's other people that they're after, and Legacy I think is too specific to Star Trek fans that it wouldn't attract the non fan of that fan that's on the fence, Whereas Scott Bakula and this series being put out there the way it's being put out there as might attract people that otherwise wouldn't watch Star Trek.

27:26 And I think that's what they're after. And I think that's why we have a bit of chance at seeing United than we have that seeing Legacy. And again I don't work for Paramount. If they're listening calling, I'd love to talk to you, but I have no control or no say with what they do at all. That's just my opinion. Speaking of opinions, David, what do you think? Yeah, I totally agree with you there, Jim about the idea that there really are just following the money and without my need, none of this is possible. So technically the idea that you know, they might not care about the fans, but they might because the fans are the ones that give them the money. So if they start going away from something totally different, then you know a fans are gonna move away, so to me, to me, I think Legacy and United are gonna be both great.

28:24 I can't wait to see both of them, and I think that we will probably see both of them. But I also agree with Paul. You know, it depends on the stories and everything, so how they read it, write it out and whatnot. So to me, I mean, if you look closely at these two uh posters here, one of them have names, they already have people lined up to play their posts, whereas United it's. Just now news that came out. And so to me, I'm thinking we're probably gonna We're probably gonna end up seeing Legacy first way before we see United. United probably won't come in for about another couple of years, would be my opinion, because who knows, they might have already started recording Legacy or like you know, come in prescription getting it okay by the top people in the branch.

29:14 So to me, I'm thinking, why not both? But I'm excited for both. But I'm gonna have to agree with everybody here, like especially Eric and Uncle Jim. I'm actually more excited to see United, more so just because I do agree with Eric that they should have have given Enterprise a better sea than a better ending to the mistake that they made. So hopefully that it's gonna be a good story. We'll see. But I think that's. Where I stand with this whole conversation that I think United and Legacy will both come to a TV near home or whatever. But yeah, so to be. But yeah, so United, That's what I'm focusing mostly on right now.

30:03 So well, you know, Charles, it's been here, Yeah he has. Well, it's interesting the fact that I know a little bit of the backstory on Star Trek Legacy. We've actually had the person who's pushing it in our club a few times, as David noticed that all those guest stars up there, Well, guess what, David, that's not a paramount poster. That's a fan fan created poster. Star Trek Legacy created the poster. They don't actually have any contract with anybody.

30:48 It's a fan push. And yes, I have tried to help a little bit with the fan push, but it's not gone anywhere. And with the fight over who who runs and owns paramount that whole story has been bouncing too. Who's receiving all the email trying to get the fans begging for it. I also knows the issue that we're going to run to a problem of well, we want Patrick Stewart on this, Well, I don't know about this rumor that's posted on Facebook, and I'm waiting for him to actually say it, but there's a rumor going around that Patrick Stewart is retiring. He's retiring from acting completely.

31:37 I've checked his personal Facebook page and nobody's posted anything there yet, but one organization supposed to his claim that he's saying he's retiring. So if he's going, how many more of these legacy actors are we going to have from the real legacy because I know the fact that I've heard Dorn's talked about retiring more than once, And are you going to have a lot of the legacy people around because they're getting the point they're going to be wanting to retire and enjoy what's going on after I think Scott Bakola and having this new one is I got a lot more momentum to a possibility of dealing something with it, because you don't always have to bring Legacy characters back. So I'm definitely for Legacy. I want to see what they what happened with that instead of having to recycle charactures from Star Trek Next Generation trying to work on season nine.

Man Like Gary Mitchell is like interested in exploring his own powers and seeing how far he can go, and he doesn't like he's starting to think about everybody else's aunts, you know, And I think the Borg thinks about everybody else as like valuable recent sources that they have to take over in control. So I don't know which is more, Uh, you know, which one's gonna kill a society quicker, probably the Borg. We have this conflict between the way Khan is leading people, which is pretty insular leadership, I would say, and the way our new alien friend Delmanda is, you know, showing the Elborian's style of collaborative leadership, right as impending disaster ticks ever closer. Right, So there's that going on right back on the planet on SETI Alpha five. And meanwhile, there's a little bit of tension happening on the good old Excelsior between Captain Sulu and doctor Lear right, and Sulu seems a little suspicious of doctor Lear's motivations there because the seems to be hooked on the idea that the eugenics Wars narrative is maybe not completely under percent right, So there's a little a little strain going on there.

Right. There's a lot of growing friction among the augments. There's a lot of ambition and mistrust. At one point, con and Marline are talking about naming their child, right. But there's a lot of tragedy in the air, right. I believe they're referring to the underground ocean as being the sunless sea at this point, but there's no marine life, so what do you eat?

We're also learning that the Elborians, I think we talked about this last week, we're willing to actually devise maybe making a spaceship to help these guys get off the planet, help the Augments escape, which could be good, right, But I don't know if that's going to work out there. We'll see. I mean, it seems like a generous, benevolent act if, but there's a lot of ego getting in the way here from things, and it seems like there's ego on a lot of different fronts from things. So I'm not sure. Things don't look very very optimistic at the end of this episode. And so then towards the very end, I don't know why that came into my mind, but I thought of Tuvik for some hard reason, and I was like, so is Con gonna have to try and like decide how to, you know, fix the situation that was going on? And then when that happened, I was like, so is Con gonna like For some reason, I don't know why, I just kept thinking,

They do with each other yea, peacefully. So I take it that their society was violent and they were fleeing from that violence. Maybe I touched it, you know, maybe.

I was just comparing last week's episode to this episode and how this episode isn't technically a conclude conclusion of last week's episode because we still have what is it like, two more episodes after this, I think three? I don't know, But to me, this episode didn't quite answer everything that we were talking about last week. So I had a lot of mixed feelings about this particular episode because I'm still a little confused of why they.

That was really the only thing I could think of that was really good in this episode. And the story was interesting, and I do actually like how this audio drama is taking two sides of the story and the guy caught like this main story worth tubax Zulu and Leir and they're kind of listening to another story that Lear was putting together, and how she got all these tapes and stuff, and it actually surprised me that she ended up getting the tape from what was that alien Demando. Yeah, so I mean it was interesting that they're gonna probably be bringing his character in somehow towards the end, I would imagine.

And I don't know if you guys just noticed, but every now and then when Lee was listening to tapes, it was actually like a tape con of con speaking and yeah, and it wi was just kind of interesting how the transformation between the two stories is coming together finally, and I think we're all gonna probably see, of course, at the last episode of the conclusion. But I'm hoping that they make a season two, so will she. But other than that, Yeah, to me, this episode, I'm still kind of mixed feelings about it. So I'm gonna probably give it about a seven.

I wanted this movie, this audio drama, to be all about CON's ability to kind of rise above the challenges that are being presented to him and like make decisions that guide the course of people's lives. And the introduction of the aliens for me, has added a layer that I don't think the story needed. Okay, So, I've always said that like Ivan was of course going to be the bad guy, and I thought that Ivan would be the bad guy relative to him, like challenging KHN for supremacy or challenging Maguvers in some like meaningful way that then put him in conflict with Khan, and maybe maybe that's still yet to come, but but the introduction of the aliens here

1:29:22 has kind of added this this layer of storytelling that takes the focus away from Khan as a person who is persevering, taking care of his people, self reliant. I guess, which is kind of the like Jenna sa Qua that I've always had about Con in my head. He's, you know, he's like he's an you know, he he's a DIY guy, Like he's he's gonna like figure it out for himself. So at any rate, I just that general kind of like moving of the story in that direction. I don't entirely love so all of this stuff.

I feel like it's the first half of this episode or so is him talking to Dlmanda, the other alien, And you know, there's like some interesting stuff where it's like Con can only understand Delmanda because Delmonda is accessing Cohn's brain and CON's brain is like interpreting the things that are coming back in better and better ways. There's this cool description that they give where it's not like somebody learning a language, it's like somebody learning how to tell somebody else their language sort of paradigm anyway, that was kind of fun. So but that that whole part of the story is just a little bit like Okay, oh my god, he's talking to the alien like it's gotta kind of wait for it to happen. The Ivan, like being the xenophobic like bad guy, Situation called it, love it. I think it's it's in this story. We need that, like antagonist wild card, you know, Situation. I think Ivan's doing that really well. The idea that the Elborians are actually building a ship for Con and his crew, I think is really interesting because that sets them up as these super mentally powerful and yet benevolent aliens, which I don't I don't know. We just we get like the Caretaker and like a couple other aliens in Star Trek,

1:31:33 but but there aren't a lot of aliens that we get that are just right from the get go, are super duper benevolent and you know, people you actually want to hang out with. So interesting, Like I I like that part of the story. And then the conflict with the future story, you know, with Tuvak and Sulu and Sulu's like inability to kind of move past this narrative that he's built for himself about who Con is and why he's such a bad person. I do find that really really interesting and a cool like development of the Sulu character in a lot of ways. So so yeah, I was pretty mixed on this episode, honestly, Like there there's some parts of it that I thought were just bad, like the whole alien thing I just don't care for.

Sulu was there for the whole thing, So you know, I'm really interested to see what that plays out. The aliens, I I disagree. I think the aliens are a great a great addition, because Con is

There is no way he can defeat these aliens. So now Con has to has to kind of learn humility. He has to learn how to be political. He has to learn how to talk to Delmonico and and to me. That's something CON's not used to doing. He's used to getting his way and he can't. He can't do that in this case. So like when Mala talks to him and says, well, you got to give Delmonico a chance, he has to do it, what's he going to do? Say?

The BBC will need to will need a new co producer if it wants to maintain the quality it has had in the last latest seasons, and one BBC Studio executive thinks Paramount Plus is an ideal partner to bring this show on. BBC Studios executive Piers Wegner pointed out that other streamers may still be interested and name checked Paramount Plus specifically saying I could make a case for any streamer wanting to create a foothold in the world with a pre existing fan base. If I'm Paramount right now, I'm losing Taylor Sheridan in twenty twenty nine, and so I am thinking about IP what else can I buy for my streamer.

Crossover between Doctor Who and Star Trek is a no brainer win for sci fi fans, and if Paramount decides to acquire the rights, to the British television series, it may help better serve its subscribers base of fans. After all, there aren't a lot of upcoming Trek shows on the horizon, so having another series ready to go wouldn't be a bad idea. I think this would be really fun right now. Obviously, like the whole mixture of Doctor Who and Disney has always been a little bit weird. You can watch all of the pre and Shooty Gatwa Doctor Who's that aren't classic Doctor Who's on HBO Max right now. I think you have to go to britt Box or something like that if you want to watch the classic stuff. But I actually think Paramount Plus would be a pretty good fit. And if they could get the entire catalog all the way from classic through current, I think that would be awesome.
