And forty two percent of our responders said that kai Win was a more dangerous adversary, and fifty seven percent said that Nero was a more dangerous adversary. And this interesting question because it sort of like depends on your definition of dangerous adversary. I think, like, if I had a badass starship like the Scimitar, Nero's probably the guy I'm gonna want at the helm. But if I want some like insidious behind the scenes like Dune style drama, Kaiwin Adami is going to be my gal. So, uh, of course I love Kaiwin. I think she's the best villain of all time. In Star Trek song, I'm gonna say I'm against a million minions, but not for any real good reason other than my personal prejudice.

She's like the embodiment of every like demagogue who's you know, drank deep from the well of religious zelotry, right, I mean guys of you know, personal ambition. She's a monster. She's a terrible person and just done horrific you know things throughout many many episodes of Deep Space nine. Nero's like not a good villain. He's just not He's really poorly drawn and like Eric Bana, I do no Offenser, but I just don't think they gave you anything good to work with except this really poorly sketched a bad guy trope. So yeah, to me, is no contest, absolutely win.

And also she you know, bumped Aglease with U the Bajoran version of Ducat, So that was she kind of she had that.

So you know, I'm gonna go with Dominions on this one because I think Nero was by far more dangerous. He had all that advanced ORG technology, He destroyed Vulcan, he tried to destroy the Federation, and he was just a bad, nasty dude.

27:49 On the killing spree, he destroyed all those Federation ships, killed all those people, and it was just a bad egg. So I'm I'm gonna go with the onions. Not that win was it nasty? But then Winn was a different type of She was a backstabbing you know, back room, I'm gonna you're not gonna know from where the axe fell that kills you, whereas Nero will just come up and shoot you in a face. So I think there are two different types of villains in that case. But that's why I asked the questions. All right, so we have in this case the minions have been outvoted by the truck's purpose, all right. So that brings us to the next one. This is a short one, is a very short one, and David, you want to roll the clip real quick. This there's a moment worth savoring. Then to victory. Hard fumped, I will earned.

Of course, reasons are not given. And because I get to read these things, I get to give my opinion first, and I'm against the Minions again on this one. I think this is wrong, man, Like, here's the deal. There are cultural forces at work here, right, And one of your fellow warriors just offered you, like probably the greatest honor in an after battle type situation that you could ever be offered, and you pour it out in front of his face. That is extremely culturally insensitive, and I don't like it. So I'm against the Minions.

30:59 And there was a clip right before that where they're attacking Chintaka and Martox says to Ross and Cisco he'll meet them at the capitol or whatever, and we'll drink blood wine to our victory. And they both said, we look forward to seeing you there, so they knew they they knew. Yeah, they basically said, you know, hey, the hell with you, and they didn't do it. And I think it's both Like both Cisco and Ross have seen battle, right, so it's not like this is their first battle situation. And so to me in that moment, when they're like, yeah, we'll see at the other end of this thing, like they know what they're in for, right, it's no surprise. So yeah, absolutely it was an insult.

31:48 Yeah, And and the Klingons are one of their biggest allies. If it wasn't for the Klingons, they would have lost that war. And it was a long, bloody war. And I understand what they were trying to say by not doing it, because war is never a pretty thing, it's never a good thing. It's a last resort, shouldn't be celebrated. But in this particular case, I'm with you, Eric. I think it's the Klingons. It's their cultural way. They knew it going in and they should have. They should have, you know, respected Martak and done it. So I'm with you. How about you, Paul. Well, it's a tough one. I get the cultural sensitivity lens thing, but I think there's something bigger going on here.

32:36 I mean, it's. Easy to get behind the raw rah rah oh. The Klingons are so fun, like jolly pirates with their blood wine and whatnot, right, I mean, it's easy to get think. Oh, of course I would drink blood wine because it's their way, because Klingons are so fun. But I cannot even watch the scene without thinking about like Daza, I can't, you know. I mean, it's basically, you're standing under the decimated ruins of you know, thousands of corpses. Do I want a toast to that there were a time that that's appropriate or that feels good that you want to do that? No, I just I just I just can't get behind it because you know, it's like, yeah, respect my talk's ability to go do that if that's his thing, But I don't think I'm going to celebrate it, right. Their whole idea is It's like it's just like, you know, no, I'm not going to celebrate the fact that we had to kill thousands of people. There's nothing, there's nothing to savor or relish. So I well, I respect the whole you know, honoring it just leaves a really bad taste in my mouth, and I think that's where Cisco's coming from here too. It's just like, this is not something to do to glorify, right, and if you if you know, I mean that's the whole thing with clingon right, glorifying war.

33:46 But if we're going to continue to think like that, we're not making it out of this century period. So yeah, I can't get bind it. It's just I just can't. So sorry. I'm a fan of a fan that I am blood wine, not a fan of killing people and celebrating it. So you know, all right, how about you, David? Would you drink the blood wine? Uh? No, I would have to agree with everybody here saying that ward horrible war shouldn't be celebrated, death shouldn't be celebrated. I would probably, Yeah, I can't. I can't get behind that, and I wouldn't drink the blood wine. So that's my answer.

I can understand maybe drinking the blood wine a few days after the victory when you're not on the planet, but dealing with the bodies that are there, You've got so many people who lose their lives, whether they were soldiers or innocent. Do you sit there and then celebrate their deaths? No, I would say, be better. Sure we can celebrate, but let's celebrate away from the planet someplace where it's ready to start a party, not right just right after a battle and the victims are still there.

Yeah, Now I would not be able to drink the blood wine because the more I watch DS nine, I don't know, there's just so many I hate to say, there's so many parallels to what's going on in the world today. And you know, we've got our people, you know. The Dominion, the Cardassians, We've got you know, somebody that makes Goldacot look like a choir boy. Basically, that's how I feel. But yeah, I think I think when they were done, it's just just watching that scene and just seeing the fires behind them, so you know, Rome is literally burning, so to speak, and then the bodies are.

36:09 All over. So it's one of those things where you had to do what you had to do, but you. Don't have to celebrate it. Does that make sense? Absolutely? Absolutely. I don't know if I would have poured it out, the blood. Wine out, because you know, again, a cultural thing but probably just would have said no, thank you or handed it back to him. I don't know, but yeah, that would be tough too. All right, Yeah, Martalk goes on to become takes over for Garron because Wharf killed Goron. So Martak is the chancellor of the Kingan Empire at that point, right, if I remember correctly, I think he was so. At any rate, just a fun little clip to get us talking. So back in the seventies and eighties, they had a really they had a thing called taglines, and they put taglines on movie posters and they had them on TV commercials and things like that to make people think of the movie, remember the movie, want to see the movie type of thing. And I thought this might be fun because some of these taglines, you know them like the back of your hand.

We start off aboard the Excelsior, right, and we have a recurring character, doctor Leear, talking to Captain Sulu, right, and he's asking, you've heard analysis of the logs found on SETI Alpha five. We're proving helpful in your search for the truth. Right. And the truth they're trying to figure out is we're Con and his followers victims of Starfleet's negligence with the destruction of this planet. Right, And she says I'm keeping an open mind, and he says, oh, i am too, goes right, and he gives her the enterprise readings from sin STI Alpha ve right during this period of the time that Con was exiled, right, and we know that the planet's core was unstable, right, but not near as unstable as it would necessarily be to explode.

So Sula was kind of challenging the premise that Lear has that Kirk knowingly sent Cohn's followers to their death, right, because that doesn't sound like Captain Gy. As much as I despise William Shtner, that does not sound like something he would do. Right, So he says that he's still got the belief that Cohn was a dangerous tyrant, right, But doctor Lear believes there was more to him than that, which is kind of the premise of this whole web series, right, really, And I think she reiterates the idea that monsters are made, not born, right, which is one of the things that she says, right. So there's a little polar disagreement at play here ins of what that debate is all about.

1:03:02 So meanwhile, we go back with con on SETI Alpha five as disaster is striking, right, and there's a terrible explosion, and this is what we've been waiting for, right, this is what we knew was eventually going to happen. Their neighboring planet, SETI Office six has exploded, okay, and cons having a hard time processing the news. How do you fight an enemy that big that he is raining down upon you? Right? And then, as if that wasn't enough, right, surprisingly, out of nowhere, this alien spaceship dropped from the sky and craft is on a planet, you know, a few miles away. So they head out to see what's going on with this planet or the spaceship, to see if has something to do with Seti Alpha six's destruction. Right, gravity as a result is going to be altered throughout the system, right, and their planet, Seti Alpha five, where this takes place, It's going to be knocked off of its orbit, right, Fragments of the dead planet hitting theirs is going to cause you know, like nuclear winter equivalent, right, blocking out the sun. It's going to basically turn their planet into a barren wasteland at this point, Right, and this situation is not helping CON's mood at all. Right, He's really not doing well. And he finds out that quite a few of these aliens have survived this spacecraft crash, right, but who they are and there their purpose remains kind

1:04:34 of ambiguous and uncertain. So to him it's a threat, right, he doesn't know what to make of it. Right, Marlon mcgivers is trying to be the voice of reason here and you know, for right and offer assistance. Right, But cons all like he's developed his theory, he's like mother ever Kirk left me on a dying planet. Right, He's just really running up the flagpole, right, And and he thinks that they should, you know, meet these interloping aliens with violence. Right. He ignores or advice. So it's kind of a chance to see his personality pivot quite a bit between you know, being at one time the benevolent leader but then kind of becoming the merciless warmonger at other moments. So it's interesting, But what are you going to do?

1:05:23 Right? And the aliens way outgunned in terms of being on is no match for the aliens, is what I'm trying to say. Right. They have like telepathy and telekinesis and advanced mental powers, right, and they can basically make your weapons you know, non functional, right, and and also mess with people's minds. I mean they're very they're much more advanced, right, And so they retreat. He's deciding he's going to try to confront the aliens himself. The aliens seem intrigued though and everything, and they try to community with him mentally through his mind, and CON's like, didn't leave my world, right, He's all you know, he doesn't really trust people easily, does he? And he kind of blacks out, and when he wakes up, he's kind of got this new calm has descended on him, this new appreciation, and somehow mentally, if I've got this right, they showed him while he was unconscious, I think that there was this massive supply of water deep underground that could be a kind of a lifeline in the event of the coming apocalypse that's happening to their planet as a result of the neighboring planet exploding and you know, having fragments raining down and blocking out the sun and center. And so the revelation of this underground water source that the aliens kind of told him. This sounds crazy as I describe it, you know,

1:06:55 but yes, there is this potential water source that they can use to serve Right yet, total calamity is about to ensue on their planet, but it looks like they might be safe from the desolation to come because they have enough water to potentially survive. So it's kind of in a weird way, I guess you could say it's CON's Kobashi Maru moment, right, It's like he's really sort of faced with a no win situation. The introduction of the Aliens was a big surprise to me. Wasn't really expecting that and wasn't really sure. It kind of seemed like, you know, they're there to basically just reveal a way that these guys can avoid being decimated in the environmental apocalypse that is coming, right, which is kind of a left handed way of doing it, because nothing really happens at the behest of Cohn's ingenuity or survival skills himself.

1:07:51 It's kind of the do sex Machina thing of basically slipping him the information. So I thought that was a little odd. It seems from a storytelling perspective, a little you know, a bit of a cheat almost. But maybe we don't yet know what's gonna ultimately be the deal with these aliens. Maybe there's more to come. I don't know. I feel like I didn't do the greatest job of convying events, but that's what it felt like to me anyhow. Yeah, so interesting, So on the heels of, you know, on the threshold of what I imagine is going to be much much worse devastation to come, but perhaps they'll be protected from it. So is that enough to go on to start with?

That's what I got, So I don't know, Itty, it was pretty good, A little I don't know this is you know, I think the I I may as well just go ahead and get my rating house, and I'm on right. But the whole alien thing seemed like it was kind of a little bit of a you know, a writing cheat rather than any you know, great you know, I mean I can imagine a lot of other ways that they could have discovered, you know, that there was this magical place that they could hide out in that would allow them to survive. And it might have been more satisfying if like somebody like mcguver's with her Federation knowledge and every episode she's pulling out a new piece of hidden starfleet tech. You know, maybe she could have hidden a tricorder that would have later found, you know, underground source of water or something. So I don't know, the alien bit sort of felt like a bit of a cheat to me. I mean, I still found it interesting and entertaining, but so maybe I think for me this week it's going to be like seven.

I don't know how, I don't know why.

Also, the sound effects in this program are just amazing, So whoever did that, because they just really bring the whole thing to life, you know, and the hear the explosions of the planet. And then he gets that you know, freaky mind beld or whatever with that one that one alien. So yeah, I thought it was kind of a little bit cheesy too, because they I think, if I recall, the one alien said, hey, we're just you know, we got knocked out of the sky.

But one thing that I noticed is they went against what we learned from Wrath of Khan because con really changes his mind. He went from this gung ho guy not trusting anybody and let's just wipe out everybody to saying, hey, they're trying to help us. I'm going to trust them. So that was a really really big big thing that they did that when against what we what we know, so we'll be it'll be.

Ah, what's interesting and trying to figure out about these aliens because they talk about they've basically traveled a generation, which means there's a sentant of the originals who left their planets. What's like, Okay, I don't know if they don't have people of warp speed, if the genera relationship or what, but if they do have it, then it's confusing of how far they've traveled. I thought it interesting how it was interesting how they kind of talked about Con and Maguyver's relationship at the beginning, which is rather interesting in the direction Con was going. But then all of a sudden they get this warning that's like, okay, something's going on, and I did look at did look

This happened about two months after the last episode, so two months into their marriage and all of a sudden, the planets we're getting this first destruction of the planet. Now it's interesting to see the how Zulu kind of goes through and defense, trying to work so strong and defending Kirk. Oh, well Kirk didn't know this and all this, and it's like okay, well they've said they're sitting in the planet's geology there was a little bit of unstability, but they didn't think it would be a problem. Now I'm wondering if this if the destruction started to occur and then these aliens showed up, or did these aliens show up to start to somewhat create this problem. So I'm curious how this is going to work out, to how this balance is out, But I think it's definitely making the story a little more confusing, and I think I agree with Paul on this one and going with a seven, I think they need to work this story a little better on.

Well, I think this episode did a pretty good interpretation of what happened, like the climax, if you will, sort of speak the idea that con is now facing all these new dangers that are coming about to explain what happened in the Wrath of Khan. I actually enjoyed this one, probably a little bit more than the people who had actually given their story so far, but I like, like what we mentioned. The sound effects was really great, and kudos to whoever did that, because that's what I'm enjoying the most with this audio broadcast is the sound effects that they used. And there's just so many different sounds that I can just enjoy. Even with somebody who has a little bit of hard hearing like myself, they seem to be within my frequency and it's it's actually really interesting to hear all the different types of like running around the you know, all the different challenge of the whatever the situation, what's going on, And to me, I enjoyed that quite a bit. So with that in mind, the alien like what Charles was saying, you know, are

But it's like an interesting mystery to find out what's going to happen in the next episode, and it's actually keeps me wanting to listen to more because that's how great it is, and it hooks me and it really makes me want to hear the end, even though I don't want to spoil it to anybody, and I haven't actually seen the end yet or listened to the end, but I actually kind of want them to see if they could do like a season two of this, and that'd be kind of interesting to get a little bit more backstory of like what's gonna happen, because I feel like we're already on the fifth episode and there's only four more. It's just gonna be like another rush situation where they're like gonna cram everything into a few episodes and then that's it. I feel like they need a little bit more backstory, so it's like, yeah, okay, But to me, I think this is just the beginning, and I'm hoping that they are going to continue, because it should very fun to listen to and it's very fun to talk about. So yeah, I originally was going to be giving this one an eight, but I think I'm actually going to put a point in this one and go with an eight point five.

I think it was Charles who was talking about the conversation that occurred between Sulu and Lear all about Con. I thought that was probably the best part of this episode. You know, Sulu being the guy who was like, you know, Con was the absolute worst of humanity's He's like nothing but a killer, and Leear's like, well, are you sure you know? Doing her? Thing that I think Paul said was, you know, the crux of this series in general, So so I really enjoyed that conversation. The idea that Sulu says pain makes monsters, you know, that is more of a nurture thing and not a nature thing. I've always thought that was true.

The only other thing that stands out in this one at all to me was that it seems kind of like the story of Con with these aliens is almost like the story that the retell about us getting warp drive with stuff from Cochrane and then the Vulcans coming down. It was kind of like, once you got to this point, then the Vulcans come down and they save you, right And in this case, it was like, Okay, once they get to this point, the mystery alien comes down and saves you. And I'm with Paul where I wanted that to just have a little bit more meat to it. I wanted it to be more about Con superior intellect or ingenuity or discovery or you know they they I feel like they could have milked that a little bit longer too, And the aliens feel a little unnecessary to the story right now.

1:20:40 They're a bad substitute for what could have been a really cool moment about why Con really is, you know, deserving of his mantle, is you know, King of the Augments or whatever. So so anyway, yeah, this one is a little bit weaker for me. I think I've generally rated these and that's kind of seven to nine range, and I felt like this was the actually the weakest one that I've listened to so far this season. So I'm going to give this one a six. A six, all right, A six from Eric. So the Aliens. First of all, I don't think we needed the aliens at all, because, if I'm correct, didn't one of the Augments create a scanner and he was able to scan the core of the planet in outer space and he knew the Aliens were there. So if that's the case, that that guy should have been able to find the water source without the Aliens telling them, right, because didn't he didn't he hot wire the scanner like a couple episodes ago to be able to find the Seti eels underground.

1:21:52 So if he could find the Sety eels underground, he should be able to recalibrate the thing to find water, right, I would think, So you don't really need the Aliens in order to find the water. Do you think that? Let me ask you, I just thought of this, Jim. Do you think that the aliens thing could have been because they wanted to kind of show this idea that all the Augments wanted to kill them first? You know, I keep thinking of the aliens as like, Okay, well they were benevolent, and so they showed them where the water was, But like, do you think the real reason that they brought them into the story was that they wanted to show that the Augments would naturally want to kill these things for some reason.

Because I think they're the ones that cause the destruction of the planet. Because Zulu makes it clear at the beginning that Spock is the one that did the stand. Spock's not wrong, and he says to the ladies, says, are you saying that Spock you know, made a mistake or wasn't right or whatever.

1:23:35 So they've made it pretty clear that Kirk did not know the planet was going to explode, The Federation wasn't aware the planet was going to explode, and neither it Spock. So something caused it to explode. And the only thing we have are these telepathic whatever they are, Danebians or whatever they are. But wasn't Wasn't there a science y thing a couple episodes ago where they were talking about there were tremors in the planet or was that in the future? Was that in the two voc future part of the story. I think that was. I'm not sure. I don't remember what parts I remember that part, but I don't remember whether it was the Tuvoc future or not. But I think the aliens are involved in it because I'm with Paul and you guys, if the only reason for the aliens to be there is for the water, it's a lame excuse because Richter or whatever his name is had to scan or could have found the water without him.

I could have sworn that that when the when Cede Alpha six was exploding, that and then they see something else that they said, Oh it's it's a ship or something.

They just was like, man, I just want to get my ship repaired and get out of here, and you want to you want us to be all be I'll be dead, so let me do this freaky mind meld on you and you know, but that was that was really weird.

So where is the superior intellect? And if these guys have this ship that they're trying to repair, yes, so at the very least you would think Ton would be like, all right, we'll kill these guys, will take their ship, we'll get off of here, and we'll we'll save ourselves using their ship and this is not even entering the conversation here in this episode, right, I mean, it's just like it's sort of maybe there's room they could there's not that many augments, they could take some extra people with them, right, there's like, you know, just a few. So yeah, it's just it's I find the writing really confusing me. Maybe in the next episode or so, it'll really uh, you know, redeem itself and we'll get some explanations. But with what is suddenly being introduced, I feel it's just like, you know, raising a lot of potentialities that just is not being addressed. So it's it's it's very confusing to me with the direction that suddenly it's going.

He reprised the role of course in Star Trek two The Wrath of Kahn, also portraying Kyle's Mirror Universe version in Mirror Mirror, and he was actually also the ISS Enterprise's computer. Remember how the ISS Enterprise had like a male voice instead of the major Rodberry voice. Yeah, it was Lieutenant Kyle, So there you go. He was one of only three people though, who actually played this role, because you'll remember probably Andrew day Kim from Strange New Worlds, so you know, somewhere along the way, Kyle looks a little bit different. But also, if believe it or not, he was played by James Dowen because James Dowen did the voice for him when he was in an episode of the animated series.

Every every new thing is hated, but then it turns into something different. So I know, I'm pretty excited about it. I one thing that I always think back to when I think about the idea of Starfleet Academy are those old Marvel comics. I don't know if anybody else read the Starfleet Academy like Marvel comics or not, but it was absolutely your Planet in the month style adventure, but for the younger crew, like the new Mutants from the X Men or something. But I hope that there are some It looks from the trailer it looks like there's going to be some young people theme. You know, there's I remember a particularly like passionate, like romantics type scene.

But even as far back as then, they were talking about Starfleet Academy. So it's been a long road getting from there to here. You guys, get that pun. It's been a long road getting.
