2:26 Start up the toy guy. How you doing, Uncle Jim, I'm doing okay. I just you know, shrugged out of my inflatable unicorn costume so I could make it here to do the show on time, because I'm out there throwing tight handfuls of feces and ice agents. Right, and if if you don't hit them on the first pitch, you've gotta walk right up to him like this, stam in the face and then just rub it right into their nostrils. That's what I would recommend, right. You want to really make impacts so that they have no doubt that yes, this is Portland, this is not my Pittsburgh or you know, South Carolina or any of those other places you used to deploy. We're party a little different here, so but I was done a lot of that in time for the show. So that's been the most important thing. And I'm ready to decompress, have a nice cold ractaccino and talk about people playing fictional character.
3:21 We're all going to do that. And also from what I believe he's wearing his pants tonight, we have how. I may or may not be wearing pants. I think that was the agreement, so you know that's what my contract says. Wow, I'm doing pretty good. I mean, you know, the city's on fire, but you know, other than that, things are great. Other than that. When we have our really own micle worker David, I believe he is wearing pants. One question for you all your sheep.

5:34 I'll take it. Yeah, one of them is going pants and one of them isn't. The mystery that really you know, breeds the call. Then you'll know. 13:10 Colin Poplin poland you know me like no win what you thought about the show when we try. To share your opinions with all of our minions out there because they listen worldwide. So tell us just what you think. Together we will all treat Canara and robulin Ale to night. All right, guys. Every week on our Facebook page, I like to ask you guys interesting and intrigue dot provoke and sometimes worthlessly ridiculous questions and to get you guys involved this one so uh and David usually pushed together an interesting video or us. So, David, you want to roll the tape?
14:05 Maybe? Okay, here we go. Okay, h. Con Bloodsucker Golds. You're gonna have to do your own dirty. Work now, do you hear me? Do you? Okirk cod You're still alive, My own. Friend, still old friend. You manage to kill just about everyone else, but like a pool marksman, you keep missing the target.
14:54 Perhaps I no longer need to try. Oh no, the girl can't take it. Come God, You've got genesis, but you don't have me. You are going to kill me, cod and you're going to have to come down here. You're going to have to come down here. I've done far worse than kill you. I've hurt you, and I wish to go on.
15:36 Hurting you. I shall leave you as you loved me. I shall left her my own for all eternity in the center of the dead planet. Marry the line, marry the line. God, Ah, so tell me, what do you really think of me? I am the former Prefect of. Baijor, an evil man who sent thousands of Masurance to their deaths to satisfy his own satistict desires.
16:22 No more pretense, no games, just you, me and the truth. What do you know about the truth? You bend the truth into whatever shape suits you. Ah, judicis go hands down another ruling. But where's his evidence? All right? You really want to do this here? Now? Yes? Okay, okay, let's do it. You were a Prefect of Bajor during the occupation, true aposs true, and you were responsible for everything that happened under your commander, true a posse True, So that means that you are responsible for the murder of a pipe million b shortans Underwatch two or four False.
17:07 They were blind, agran fools. If only they had cooperated with us, we could have turned the world into a paradise. From the moment we arrived on Vasure, it was clear that we were the superior race. But they couldn't accept. That they wanted to be treated as equals when they most certainly were not. And you hated them for it. Of course I hated them. I hate everything about them, their superstitions and their cries for sympathy, their treachery and their lies, their smug superiority and their stiff necked obstinacy, the earrings and the broken wrintal loses.
17:55 You should have killed them off. Yes, Yes, that's right, isn't it. I knew it. I've always known it. I should have killed every last one of them. I should have turned that planet. It's a graveyard, the lights of which the galaxy. Had never seen. Oh guy, so you've seen the clip. What is the question, Eric? The question is who is the best villain? And of the people who responded to our poll, forty said con Nodian Sing is the better villain and sixty percent said Ducat.
18:40 I am a little surprised by that, but I respect that decision. Of course, the correct answer is kai Win. But uh. Okay, se Yeah, what do you guys think? One of one of our Facebook people mentioned, and I think fairly enough that gold Dukot is featured more than con con got a movie in an episode, so we never really got well, we do have the audio drama now, but we don't really get to see the full extent of his his badness. So whereas gold Ducott, as we just saw Benjamin Cisco put him in his place, we saw the full extent of his evilness. So yeah, I think I think I'm gonna go with the minions on this one. I gotta go with Golducot.
19:35 I mean, we see, we see the full extent of his evilness, but then he kind of has like a little mini redemption arc in the middle of Deep Space nine, and then he goes full on Pa Raith at the end. So I feel like we get at least three different Ducats throughout the seven seasons of Deep Space nine. And you're right, there just wasn't that much time with Con spent to see how he would dive. Yeah, what do you think, child? Are you with the minions? I'm gonna have to go against the minions on this one. To me, still one of my favorite villains had to be Con in my list, probably my second favorite movie, no, not five being four being my top favorite. But Con as a villain. I can still remember the theater sitting there watching what he's doing, even though it's funny that we saw that scene and yet Kirk has a plant up his sleeve to challenge Khan. That was one of the great battles, one of the early great.
20:46 Battles of Star Trek. To see those two add it and to bring back of it, bring back one of the characters from the tos and show the full stretch of it. Why they do the why'd they do the uh pod audio podcast? Because Con is a great villain and we want more details about what kind of man he was, So my vote definitely for Con. Well, while we're talking Con, let me ask you guys a question. In my mind and my little people might be seeing eye on I be long on the tooth. I'm not sure what I seem to remember when I saw that movie and he yells CON. I could have sworn he yelled at three times when I remember seeing a theater, but in that clip he only said it twice.
21:40 Did he actually ever say it three times? Or did he only say it twice? And what do you guys remember, was it two or three? I remember three times, but I always thought of it as a as he actually only said it once. It's kind of like the Jean Claude von da movies where he like punches somebody and then they do it three times just to like raise the impact level of what he's doing. Right, I always assumed that he really only said it once, but then they repeated it two more times, just to like increase the emotional effect of his of his con. But I here's what I'll say about that moment, Jim probably one of the best moments of all time.
22:22 To pause your video slash DVD slash streaming player, because when he when he screws up his face to yell con, it's an amazing facial excession, one of the best that Shatner's ever delivered. Yes, and he does it with shatnerisms too, which I thought was great. So I just wanted to ask how about you, Paul, are you I gotta go with I gotta I gotta go with the cot on this one. Yeah, Mark Alaimo was just a phenomenal actor. He's great. I mean, nothing against Ricardo mon Dabahn. I mean, it's a great character, right, but it's just it's a it's a one two punch, right, I mean, you basically had two opportunities to play the character, right, And and they're wonderful, indelible, but it's kind of hard to compare them fairly, just because you know, Mark Alamo had many, many seasons to build this character and take him on several arcs. And Golducott is just you know, I mean he is, you know, a pranstitioner of Vernis. He's done a horrific things, right, I mean, just terrible, terrible thing.
23:31 Yeah. Maybe he tried to have you know, some kind of a you know, flirting opportunity at redemption, but even an evil human being, and Alimo plays him in such a Shakespearean way, right, because he's like, you know, the best villains don't think they're villains, right, They think that they are the hero of the story, that they're absolutely justified in what they're doing. And the great thing about Goldecott is Goldecott is always even with Cisco, he's pretty much the smartest man in the room, no dummy, He's He's just a really hyper intelligent, you know, ruthless individual who unfortunately, uh grew up and committed to fancism. So you know, he's definitely a character that there is a lot of study, and you know, be careful we don't run into real life or Lars. Yeah, a phenomenal depiction, but I gotta go with.
24:26 Gold all right, and that ways, that ways our poor David, what do you think dominions are against dominions? Well, is your a third option such as myself for light? Come on, guys, but. Uh yeah, I'm actually gonna be I'm gonna be agoing with the minion done edge one. I think Golden Cod is definitely probably the most fleshed out villain, like you've said before, you know, since Con only had like a one episode in a movie. Uh, golden Cott had a big, huge arc soot like seven Sheeton. But I mean now we've got the Con audio, so yeah, we'll see what that take session. It might change my mind to turn it to Con. But right, now gold to Kott, I think is probably the most villain push and I would probably vote for it too. And just like how what Eric would remember my favorite Dark Trek shares Base nine.
25:27 So yeah, I U I yeh go to Cott all the way for me? All right? So there you have it. But wait, there's more. We also have another question. So this one, this one I put in here specifically for child. So, David, do you want to roll the tape? Maybe there we go, there we go? Cool and they left last night.
26:32 If you didn't want to mob scene with the press, it wouldn't have been good for them. Besides, we thought it would be easier. On you this. You sent them away without even letting me say them. You start up a pitch, all right, so you saw the clip. What's the question? Eric? That question is in Star Trek for the Voyage Home, Bob Riggs, that gentleman on the screen there sends the whale out to see without telling our heroine Gillian. Do you agree with his decision? Twenty percent of our people say yes, that was a good decision, and eighty percent say no, it was a bad decision. And I am fully with the minions on this one. You can't like she had huge emotional investment in George and Grazie, right, and he lets him go without telling her. That's just rude.
27:28 He didn't have to tell the press, but he should have told her. Yeah, I agree, Eric. And there was another scene in there where, if I remember correctly, she's talking about intelligence and he says something about it's never been proven that they're intelligent. She says something like, well, my my, my lover affects her for someone isn't based on their intelligence something like that. So yeah, I agree. I agree with the minions. He was raw and he deserved to get slapped. So there you have it. How about you, Chiles. I put this one in just for you because I know you like start for four. Yes, Bob is a dink. Bob shouldn't Bob. Bob shouldn't have done what he did. It's like he didn't tell anybody else. I'll just send them off. It's like, yeah, and they proved that he sent them off, and it's still they still knew they were out there as the Chinese went chasing after him. But I love the stories that I've heard in the past decade or so the fact that the whales were coming back. Okay, thanks to our trek you help maybe bring those whales back a little bit.
28:45 Awesome. How about you, Paul, do you think mister Riggs was was right in his decision. Or no, I think he was. He was, you know, as we've all clearly I think come to consensus it was. It's a plot driver, right, But. He's a dick. He's very insensitive, right, and you know which is you know, of course backing up, really, no one has the you know, right to be keeping the whales in captivity in any circumstance, right, I mean it's really you know, morally correct. So but you know, but still you did have that bond and to disregard that, well, you know, he's just basically living in the mantle of most administrators everywhere doing what the rituals changed community without factoring in the human emotions, which is you know, you know, when people need their jobs individual.
29:41 It. Sorry Griggs, but I hope I have a good time working at the local cinnabon store. Now he gets the golden Zimle war for sure. All right, David, how about you? What do you think? Yeah, I agree with everybody here that yeah, Bob could or it was clear that she was really closer with whales and if anything were to happen to them, she would probably just quit. I think she did quit right then and there. Okay, I don't think she ever. Went back so well, she went to the future. Yeah, she definitely quit her job. Chets Okay, so this is the right moment, Jim, I just have to bring this up. So I'm not sure if we'll ever get to reviewing the newest Lower Dex comics or not. Both they brought up I think a very good point about this movie. I don't know if you guys have been reading the latest comics, but so they take George and Gracie to the future, and presumably those two have babies, right, and that's how the whale population is sort of repopulated.
30:50 But anybody who knows anything about genetic diversity knows that brothers and sisters shouldn't be having babies, and so the newest Lower Decks comics kind of deal with that idea that two whales probably wasn't enough to bring to the future. So if you want more on Star Trek four and what the fallout from only bringing two whales to the future is, read the latest Lower Decks comics right now. They're hilarious and very plainant. I think, well, we have five many episodes of COD to cover and then we probably will end up with Comic Corner coming. Back and cool awesome that we will.
31:35 All right, guys, So those are cool questions. And that was a fun part of the show. Privia time. And you know what that music means. It's once again time to put on your thinking caps and join us for Star Trek trivia time with Uncle Jimson. I like to have some fun. And now that we're we're check talking and beyond on limited to only Star Trek and I'm taking advantage of that. And so my first question, I'm gonna throw what Paul so Paul and the John Carpenter classic they live. What's the only way that the humans can see the aliens?
32:19 Well, you've got to be able to get yourself a pair of very special sunglasses, Uncle Jim, and then all will be revealed. You will see where it says on sale instead is revealed to say, Oh, so I think we could use a bunch of sunglasses like that right now. Yeah, absolutely correct. And my next question goes out to David. You ready, David he's got the glasses all right. In a road on a Star Wars story, what happened to Red five?
33:06 Did he blow up? Yes, it's a pretty good guess. Especially the very next speaking alumni voice K two s o. Oh, like like a leaf on the wind, it's uh Alan Alan right? Alan to Dick? Is that how you pronounced that? Who? Who? Also recently, well not recently, over the last several years, has starred in a very kitchy and awesome television series called Resident Alien. I don't know if you guys have seen it or not, but if you like goofy sci fi, it's pretty good. It was based on a comic, and the comic was a little bit better than the show, but it's still. His portrayal was great. So yeah, I love him. He's such a great actor.
34:06 Yeah, that's I met him. He's funny like that. He's a riot. So I'm gonna throw this next one at Charles. Oh No, you know, I think this one's a better suit for I think he's a better suitor. In the nineteen eighty films Saturn three, what was the name of the Killer Robot? Oh? Lord movie? I even heard of that movie. It's it's infamous. I can actually attest that I saw Saturn. I paid good money to see Saturn three in the theater, okay, and it was a colossal bomb. I mean, this is an era of science fiction, but they were making so many movies so fast, handover fist, right, and and this was a science fiction movie with a robot. Kirk Douglas, Harvey Keitel, and Farah Fawcett. Okay, so it was the weirdest science fiction ever because the people in the behind the scenes had no idea what they were doing. Eric, you remember Roy Ddtriss, who plays Commissioner Simmons or Space ninety nine. Yeah, they hired Roy Dodtris to dub Harvey Kaitel.
35:16 Wait what if you watch you don't even get the Harvey Kuytell cool voice. Yeah, because it's too much like a New York back. Mister. It's just like you a fascist accents like I don't even must understand what I'm saying. It's it's it's a nuts job of a movie, not a well designed robot at all, I don't think. But the robot's name was Hector, because they're really milking the Hector and the Achilles comparisons in this movie, right, could be a mythic, right, but it is if you if you have us. I mean, I've been watching all of season two of Space nineteen ninety nine. Eric, I think you might be able to tolerate this, but it is it's it's you. Know, to handle some cheesy sci fi, that is for sure.
35:58 Instead, I would recommend the movie called Outland with Sean Connery instead, which I have seen that infinitely better. Yeah, so was there was there a Saturn one and two or no? It was just a reference to like the the probe number the planet, the third moon of Saturn, I think is what it was, if I remember correctly. I'm still trying to forget that I ever saw the movie. But so they changed the voice of the robot because they were trying to copy what Coward did with Dark Rader. No, it's the voice of It wasn't the robot. It was the voice of Harvey Kaitel, who's like this sort of evil kind of black leather wearing. He would be like, he's almost like, what is it called? What do we say it? On the division whatever?
36:41 On Star Trek? The people that we don't like them, thank you. He's like a section thirty one person kind of you know, you know, black hat kind of dude. But for some reason, it's like you hire Harvey Kaitel, who was so you know, known for his voice. I mean that shouldn't be a surprise when you show up on set. What Harvey ketch sounds like? Right? But it's crazy, it's just crazy, but it's just but yeah, actor is the robots name? The most long winded answer ever. That was great. Thanks for all the info. That's what I'm gonna thro Charles. Jonathan Raker Freaks is married to what soap opera star? H Okay, all.
37:30 Mute, sorry, mute, There we go. I an interpretive dance, Yes I was, I said I but I don't follow too many wise, but I think it was Genie Francis. Francis Francis for giving Paul Saturn three because I don't think I even saw Saturn three. You're lucky, Charles. Yeah, I'll pull it out. I'll watch it every ten or twelve years. Just remember it and forget it quickly, all right, Speaking of a movie that's not forgotten that we watched many many times, I'm gonna throw this one at David, all right, David in the nineteen eighty six James Camera classic Aliens. What character says game over Man?
38:22 Game over? Game over me? Oh, man, I haven't seen Aliens in so long. The first time I remember watching my last week. Yeah, this is character is very memorable. Ah, I know I missed an Aliens discussion that bumps me out. Yeah it's so, I'll give you a hint, David. It's the guy who was in Aliens, Terminator and Predator. Predator too, Predator two? Yeah, yeah, lard fictionaor Okay. I just think, well that's a good guess. Yeah, okay, someone else got that I don't remember.
39:03 Want to. I'll steal it. Hudson Man, Okay, why don't you put her in charge? Played by Bill Paxon. I love the game over man, Straight to Hell? Dad lived all that stuff? Oh did he really? I didn't know that Cameron liked him and just thought he said go do some stuff and some stick. Really great. Hmm okay, So I'm gonna throw this one out to Charles.
39:43 I think this is a star question this episode. What makes miss Mace Windows Savers so unique? Oh? This was actually an interesting one that I picked up when I was at Disneyland, the rare purple lightsaber. I'm a Jedi master. Well, and it's actually it's gotta if I remember correctly. It actually has a second thing that's kind of unique about it, which is that the hilt is gold versus like a silver metal. I know everybody thinks about the blade, but like the hilt part is gold too, and the blade has something to do with like some style of Jedi shenanigans he knows is what supposedly makes his lightsaber purple.
40:33 I don't remember the details, but there's a yeah, it's the chirocrist but like it's his internal energy because of this style of Jedi stuff that he knows makes it. It's actually it's actually rather interesting. I've heard an interview and he said, oh, you're getting a chance of being a Star Wars movie. Oh great, I get to be in a big part. And obviously he comes in and all of a sudden it's like, oh, yeah, we're putting you through oo uh costuming. Oh, you're actually doing me through costuming. As all of a sudden he finds out, oh, we're getting you set up for this, for this lightsaber. You're making me a special lightsaber and to find out he had a major part in the movie. Didn't even realize it. He just expected to show up as being somebody in the background and became a major character in the movie.
41:24 That's funny. I always assumed that he requested that color of lightsaber, didn't know a had it kind of set up ahead of time. That's cool. I'm not sure if they planned it, but they he did not expect to be the character he was. Yeah, when George Lucas first makes cole words, he wasn't planning on a different colored lightshaber being a certain like different type of Jedi stuff. He actually came up with that idea later on, and then all of a sudden, different colors of light shaber represents certain things. So that's interesting. Well, this next question I'm gonna throw out to Eric because always does our Shatner says, so in honor Halloween, what connection does William Shatner as Captain Kirk to the Halloween franchise.
42:13 Oh, his face is the is like the Michael Myers mask, right. Yeah, that's right. Yeah, Captain Kirk is the killer. Yeah, there was there's some story about that where it was like they grabbed it off of the lot or something, and he had had the cast done. I can't remember what the story is. I don't know if one of you guys remember that or not, but. Yeah, of course of course I do. So on the on the laya disk of Halloween, there's an interview with the makeup artist dude, and he was told to do a mask, and they were like, what are we going to do? What are we going to do? So it was such a low budget movie. They ran down a local Halloween store and there was a whole shelf full of Captain Kirk masks. So they grabbed a couple. They brought them back. They cut the hair and they stray painted them white. They cut the eyes out bigger, and they said, okay, here's our bad guy. And that's how it happened through the years. Though they actually redesigned it and actually made a Michael Myers mass so they wouldn't have to pay you know, paramount for you. They actually did note the Michael Myers mask did that, but the original one was Captain.
43:23 All right, this one, this next question is going to go out to Paul. He's my my classic sci fi down here, all right, Paul. In the miniseries V what brought the visitors to Earth. Well, I could answer that question a couple of different ways, Uncle Tim. And what actually brought the Earth was a large spaceship. That would be one way I could. That would be about that. It's also shape, you know, because you know it's all now the question, right, So that is one interpretation that they bribed in a large spaceship. However, digging deeper as I like to go, and dig deeper the booted if you will, The reason that brought them to Earth was they claimed that their planet was dying bullshit, and they offered advanced technology in exchange for Earth's chemicals and minerals, et cetera, when they were really a bunch of reptilian gopher swallowers and intended to line us all up on the barbecue pit and turn us all into various things. So, if it turns out this note, you know, and that big object that's out there beyond Mars is approaching, they're supposed to arrive here sometime the next couple months whenever, you know, if it turns out that they are aliens claiming to offer us things to help us, let's be a little you know, let's vet that shit Okay before we like, you know, let's just not you know, not give away the store. Let's let's just make sure that
44:55 we really know what's going on. Let's, you know, let's do what we do in America. Let's throw lawyers at them. Okay, well, look we got lots of Here. Is another reason that brought them here to Earth. Yeah, there's one that Paul didn't say that I can think of. Oh what did I forget? No? No, no, they wanted the water. They said that there. Yeah, they said that their planet didn't have any water, and so they came here because it was like seventy five percent water on the ocean surface. Yeah, Flash, okay, so you get the final question. Oh good, this is a tough one. This is a coffee. I don't know if they know this one or not. In the nineteen eighty movie, Flash performed the soundtrack I want to get this one.
45:54 Come on, you got this. On this one? Well, okay, so according to timeline, this would before my time. So yeah, but this is timeless. But you heard this song of the. Oh man, I have no I can't put that way. Okay, here's your hint. It's the same band that did the soundtrack for Highlander. Oh that just wait the movie. Giv you show the movie. I haven't the movie. I thought this was the easiest question in the world when somebody said.
46:41 The name. Okay, Adam Free, Adam Lambert back with Freddie Mercury and the Fabulous Queen. That's right, Queen. Yeah, I don't know the name to Sean. Guys, I'm gonna send you some soundtracks, David. Yeah, a soundtrack. It's a kind of magic like Queen, which was. A soundtrack. That whole album.
47:24 Album the song from Iron Eagle, though one vision the rest of it is from Highland. Bad said that, oh my god, the first and the worst of the top gun ripoffs. Me my god. If you thought the first one was, did you sit through the second one? No, not a chance in hell. Yeah, I was over. Was over watching Firefox In the next one. Spoiler alert, the hero from the first movie dies in the first five seconds of the second one. Why am I watching this? He's dead? All right? Well, that was on our journey beyond the Star Trek, and now we're going to come back to the world as Star Trek, and we're going to talk about Star Trek con the radio drama episode or magical Thinking, and we're going to have Paul give us a quick rundown.
48:23 All right, friends, So we have made it to almost a halfway point of this radio drama, if I'm not mistaken here. So this is episode four of Star Trek Con the dramatic podcast. Very good stuff so far, and the episode four is called Magical Thinking, And so we're kind of focusing a little bit here on con struggle with grief and leadership after some of the recent losses that have been experienced on SETI Alpha five. Some things I noted that we were highlighting in this episode that appealed to me worth discussing. I think it's a theme of trust with Marlon mcgiver's proving her worth by going out and doing something uh, you know, heroic, you know, involving some bravery, leading her acceptance by the colonists and her restrengthening of her bond with Con, which is interesting.
49:19 Right. There is this key moment of Cohn's initial rejection of rituals as being magical thinking, right, but he is ultimately persuaded by macgivers to help lead a memorial for the following And some things going on here that I think are good I really liked her acceptance there leading this mission. Mcgiver's you know, to capture a SETI eel for ursula, right, I think proves to everybody her value just beyond the fact that's you know, nd woman, right, making more of an integrated part of the community, which is great. But mcgivers is strong in this episode, right. She convinces him of their importance in uniting people through shared grief, right.
50:03 And and I think convinces him the way I read it, right to lead the memorial for the fallen. And I think given how he's been perceived in a couple of different ways, I think it kind of helps solidify his position as a as a leader who is more interested in unification than conquest. Right. I mean, I know he's got those two sides of him, as we've talked about, but I think he's you know, being tempered a bit by her influence. And I think the unifying thing is seeming to me to emerge stronger here. And I think if that was not, I somehow doubt that Marlon mcgivers would have deepened her relationship with him there. So there's there's you know, after some a little bit of estrangement in earlier episodes are a little bit more book together here now dominating in spoiler alert proposal and the revelation of Marlon mcgiver's pregnancy, which is kind of a big deal, right, and then it's pretty interesting expansion of his backstory, I think, and I thought that this was a fairly pivotal turnative events in you know, the evolution of their society there on the planet. So just kind of a you know, rough overview. I'm probably forgetting as it's been a few days since I've put any outes on this thing, so I'm probably forgetting some stuff, but I thought it was you know again, I think this is a really good start up fans who were not paying attention to this or missing it. I think it's really good. And I'm like what the voice conist has been bringing to bear Hair.
51:36 I think there's a lot of good work going on. But that's that's what we're talking about, so a lot of good themes to discuss, and be really curious to hear what everybody thinks of Marla and and what her arc is like in this episode and and how conresponds to that. So Eric, would you like to get us started this week? Yeah, sure, Paul. I think that those are some great questions and great topics that you were bringing up there. I found Marlon mcgiver's Mcgiver's sorry to be a very strong character in this one. I love how she's like the only one that Con really listens to. There are times in this episode where he's kind of like no woman, but like generally speaking, he is listening to her, He's taking it in, and I think that she's serving as kind of like a tempering force for him a little bit, which which is good. You know, we've talked in previous episodes about how Con is being set up in this series as not only the conqueror, but also as a compassionate leader, not a king, but like a real leader who cares more about his people than he does about his his conquest. And I think mcgiver's is the type of character that kind of helps draw that out of him a little bit more in a world with you know, ever worsening weather and SETI eels all over the place and that kind of stuff. So really really appreciate the Marlon mc iver's character in this episode.
53:08 The she. So she's from Starfleet, right, and so I like how in all of the different episodes that we've seen so far, they are these little moments where she sort of touches back to her starfleet years, or her starfleet training, or her starfleet equipment. You know. In previous episodes it was like Ursula and is it madaw Madeau? Is her wife? Something like that. They they they're like, hey, what are all these drugs? What are all these come? Tell us about them, right, because you're the only one that knows what all this crazy starfleet stuff is. Yeah, in this one, we find out and sorry if I this takes anybody's thunder, but we find out that she kept a phaser, right, she kept a phaser.
53:55 We found out before that she kept a communicator. Now we found out she kept a phaser. It turns out that the phaser is the thing that saves the day in the end, and so I just thought that was It's kind of cool how she always keeps one toe in the starfleet pool, so to speak. Paul already talked about the pregnancy. I'm really excited to see where that goes. Although I have a feeling it's doomed, but I'm you know, who knows, Maybe maybe things will be okay. I don't know, and let me see what else did I like? Oh, I always like to comment on Ivan. So, so Ivan is in this one, right, but he's a little bit less evil than he has been in the past. I feel like in this one, Ivan is kind of like so also spoiler alert, they go out on a hunt for like some Seti eels and stuff, and he's like, he's kind of just like the hunter of Seti eels, and he's a little bit less like I want to kill everybody and take over the colony, which is kind of the vibe that I've been getting off of him up until now. So so I think Ivan's a little less threatening. I think mcgivers is a great character. I want to make sure and leave some stuff for the other guys to talk about. But I'll say that I pretty much dug this episode. It's you know, I always listen to these twice. They're pretty short. This one was like forty minutes with commercials, so it's probably thirty five minutes of actual listening and it's easy to skip your
55:27 way through the commercials. Sorry advertisers, I didn't hear any of what you had to say. But yeah, overall, I thought this was a really solid episode. I actually liked it better than I think the last one. I think the last one I only gave like a seven or so, so I'll give this one a solid eight. I totally dug it. Ah, you missed a really good hamorrhoid commercial. I will tell you that. Could he use that info? I mean, never mind. You know, I'm sure next week, you know Star Trek has brought to you my preparation age. Is that why you're not wyn pan? Uh? Yeah? I got to keep it cool, got to keep it cool.
56:10 Yeah. So I I went to Eric, I like, I like this one a lot. I think that Marle was the only one that actually tells con hey, dude, like cool it you. She stands up to him, while the other ones are like to him, we're not worthy, We're not worthy. Marle was like, yo, dude, like take a step back, man, and he listens to her surprisingly enough, which is, you know, pretty cool. So I want's a nice outgrowth from kind of like how he because if you watch space Seed, right, he kind of has these moments where he's completely enamored by her. And I like that they've kind of brought that con energy into this podcast. Yeah. Absolutely, and You're right. She she falls back on her Starfleet training quite frequently, actually, and I think she's starting to earn the respect. I wasn't named Ursula. Was that the is that the doctor? Yeah, when she goes out when they go ye, she goes out on the hunt for the great SETI eel queen that lays the eggs, and you know she's gonna be ay alone because she has the phaser. No one no she has it. Is goes with her. And I don't think we got to worry too much about spoiler alerts because we are three weeks behind. You know, Issula finds out that she has the phaser and doesn't tell Khan, and when Ton finds out about it, I'm like, CON's gonna be pretty pissed about that. But like Ton's like, yo, dude, like that's cool.
57:40 You know, is respect between you and Ursula and I can dig that ship. So that's okay. And so you know, the Con that we're seeing is quite different from the guy that strands Kirk on the asteroid that we just saw on the clip a few minutes ago. So yeah, I'm I'm I'm digging. I still have a question though, So okay, last week, we thought that the Seti eels were hanging out in the trees and falling into people's ears. Now we find out that there's a giant queen that lives underground and comes out of ground, out of the ground and lunches and the people. I'm kind of I'm confused. No, no, I got so in my opinion, and I think that this is up for debate. But in my opinion, you've got kind of like, so they said in this one that there's like it's mostly it's mostly females, right, The ones that we see that are on the ground that have the larva are the females, and that there are very few males, but that all of the mating and the egg lay and they find like these little white things on them that they think are the eggs, and so they figure that that it's like this hive thing where there's the queen. And then they get the super scanner that the one guy made and they find them underground. And so I think that the three stages are like you're either a queen and you live underground where it's all safe and you make the eggs, or you're this is if you're a female Seti eel, or you're like the medium sized one that sort of crawls
59:13 around and like gets in the way, or you're a larva, and if you're a larva, you're either under the carapace of the medium sized one or you're up in the trees dropping down in people's ears. That's what That's what I said, all right. I don't know. It is cool that they're exploring this though, right, Like they're trying to give us more information about the SETI Eel, which which is like significantly expanding on what we get in Star Trek two, which I think is really cool. Yeah, I think it's neat and like, so beam them down on the planet. He beams downs, am I would they make the guns?
59:57 Don't know they were given weapons, but I think Kurt gave them everything that they would need to survive there, right, So he gave them technology, he gave them weapons, but he didn't give them The one thing that's confusing to me is mcgiver says in this one something about how you know, the phaser is like an advanced technology, and so Starfleet has this thing about not giving advanced technology to people who don't already have it. And so I think the guns and everything that the that Starfleet provided for the Augments were basically like the things they would have been using back in the twenty first century when they were making war on Earth.
1:00:38 That makes sense. I can buy that. That's cool. So I think overall, I think I think eight is a good rating for this one. For me, I think in eight sounds about right. How about you, Charles. She brings back, try to bring in tradition and to this group where she sit there's and speaks to Khan. It's like, Okay, you're gonna take all this emotion into yourself and not give anybody else a chance to deal with these situations. As we've noticed, there's a lot of secrets in this camp. Khan's trying to hide the deaths, Marla's trying to hide her secrets. Several people have got quite a few secrets they are hiding in here. But I like the chance. It's like, okay, give these people a chance to grieve, and con suddenly agreeves like, okay, let's have a burial ceremony. Let's have these people recognize and remember them as who they were. And I like that She's trying to bring some of the traditions back that he was trying to forget, like okay, but you're not giving these people a chance to do what to do things they did back when they were on Earth.
1:02:09 And the emotions that some of the characters go through by saying I recognize your pain, and I think that's what Khan suddenly realized, like Okay, if this is Khan's woman, then Khan needs to make her his proper woman and go through a proposal. And when you hear him say, well, I think I'm supposed to do this on one on a knee, on one knee, and it's like, oh, he's actually going to that old proposal, old method of proposing. It's like, okay, that's another ceremony, that's another tradition. And I think it's definitely interesting at bringing some of the traditions back and where their Marla is not part of the colony. She's an outsider. All of a sudden, she's helping them out and they're recognizing as her as part of the group. She's welcome, she's welcome, invited, and welcome to the fires, and.
1:03:19 So we go to that. It's interesting to see how she comes really a part of the group. So I agree with this group. I think this is a good solid eight. But this is definitely a very good episode and keeps me wondering what's going to happen next, especially with how they're gonna do deal with the maintaining those eels. All right, how about you, David, what do you think? Yeah? I thought this episode was really interesting. First, let me get let me get the kanjied away no pun intended anyways, the uh the situation with the phaser. I thought it was really weird that the Khan himself even didn't even know what that was when she fired it, because I always thought when con was on the ship for the entire time that he was awakened from that sleep.
1:04:24 He he he. When he was on the hospital bed, he was like studying the history and everything of what was going on. So you'd think that he would study up to the point of what they have in the computer banks of like you know, alien races should do this, and in course, why wouldn't he have known about phasiery? That part didn't get me. I was like, Okay, I can see how Ursula and everybody else was a little surprised because you know, they were mostly asleep and they didn't you actually. Get to look at the computers and everything. But then it was like, it just surprised me that Khan either forgot maybe I don't know, but it was just a little strange that he was surprised about his phaser and stuff. So, you know, the other thing that I thought was weird was when I started hearing bullets.
1:05:13 I was like, that got me confused because I was like, how did they get gunns? What do you need a factory to like produce those type of things? And so I was just like, okay, So yeah, I got a little confused with that, And then overall it was just kind of like that was my thoughts of the whole situation. I didn't quite understand, and Slash didn't follow with the whole concept of what he was with the show was trying to describe. But oh wow, But the things I did like, I like the fact. That mcgivers has the same last name as the guy who can just basically make anything out of dark table.
1:05:53 So you know that that giant scannad they made mister mcgivers, I guess said. But the. Fact that they were finding these creatures under the ground makes sense now because we remember when Kahn first took the little things out of that creature put in chuck Off's ear. They were already under the ground, so it's like their natural habitat. I thought that was really cool of how they described where they came from. And the other thing I gotta say is that now, since Marla is pregnant, is this going to be a thing where Khan is going to be I mean, we already know that he blamed Kirk for the death of I think and Ratha Kahn. He mentioned his wife right as Marla as being his wife kind of thing.
1:06:54 Is that true? And okay, so yeah, now since we find out that she's pregnant, here makes me wonder if this is what's going to cause Consraige to really expose and stuff and so a lot of the stuff that he is trying to like bottle up because of mcguiver's you know, she's like the conduit to keeping him calm, keeping him from not becoming like what we all know of him and the wrath Khan. So I was like, now, since if she we all know, she's probably gonna die one way or another. But I find it interesting how the story is bringing us to that point, and. That part I actually.
1:07:35 I'm very interested in how this will turn out, and so it's interesting to see how things are coming along. As far as. The other stuff that you guys should talked about, I mean, we all went through quite a lot with it already, and I'm trying to remember there was something else I should have taken note, but there was something else that I was trying to make. But yeah, I guess I'm just gonna get my score and I think I'm gonna go with an eight one. And David, if I can just come in on one thing you were just talking about, so there, you know, I think what the story that I'm reading that they're weaving here with the kind of ragefull con that shows up in Star Trek two is that that con has been beset by a series of tragedies. And the tragedies kind of start with Hugo dying, right, and then the next guy dies, and then the next two people die, and then something else horrible is going to happen, and then SETI Alpha six is going to blow up, and you know it was I can't remember if it was the last episode of the one before that where he's like SETI Alpha five, you won't beat me. I will dominate you. You know that I think is the like it's the it's the taking of the con character as a conqueror and and you know, person involved in the wars and the eugenics wars, the softening of him through
1:09:07 magivers and through this second chance that he was given by Kirk, and then how that all falls apart when all of these tragedies kind of happen. So it's this really amazing like character arc that kind of goes from like evil dude to like really good dude because of nurture, not because of nature, right, and then nature kicks his ass and like causes him to become the con, the vengeful con that we see in the future. So I don't know, that's that's my favorite part of this is kind of seeing that arc of the con character. Yeah, and add on to that the idea that he.
1:09:49 Lost all those people because wasn't it true that like all the augmentary was only like seventy of them I think, and. Like seven fact or something. Yeah, yeah, yeah, can't interbreed with each other because women have no age and all that. So he's losing people at a rapid rate. And this is what episode four and how many people have already passed, so and I can't remember exactly how many people were actually in the Wrath of Cohn when he came in. It was like less than a dozen. I mean it was not a lot. So he's gone through a lot of tragedies. Yeah, and there's more to come. Yeah. Paul Stong was also Paul can.
1:10:32 No, I just echo what you guys said. I thought this was a really strong episode. My question is if Marlon mcgivers has a child, will it be referred to as Larva mcgivers based on you know, Eric's analysis of the you know setting, heel, you know, life cycle. So I don't know, it's just it's it's worth considering, So. That'll be the title whatever happens on SETI Alpha. Alpha five. Okay, Yeah, but I like that that that she's coming into her own as a character, and she's, you know, because she is from a different era, you know, because he's a twentieth century man who's out of time, right, and and she's more of a you know, centuries evolved beyond him. And even though she was a character that was conceived the sixties, she's more empowered, more of a feminist, more autonomy, endowed than you know, the women that he was used to and that her you know, the remaining augments from the twentieth century, right, So she's really more ahead of him. And so I think that's the thing that we always look for in Star Trek is characters who inspire people to be better than they are, right, And I think that she at this point is you know, making him a better leader because she is inspiring him to try to be a better man. And when everything goes dutch with the other planet and the tragedy we know is just down the corner arrives, I think he's not only bemoaning and mourning her. I think he's mourning
1:12:10 the own potential self. He's never gonna be right, And I think he's kind of, you know, realizes he's, you know, he had a chance to really find redemption, to become a different kind of person, a better leader, and he feels that that's snatched from him. And when you when something tragic happens, it's a very human reaction to try to find someone to blame. But I think that's what we see with khn right. It becomes a real Ahab figure in in rapicon, which is you know, which Nicholas Meyer built so much of those nautical and Melville motifs into that you know thing that he does there. I mean, he's a totally have character. He's obsessed right because of something that was snatched away from him that he feels was done unfairly. So it's really great writing. And I like the fact that the folks who did this, jumping off of Nicholas my work really adhere to those themes right and really and their goal clearly was to deepen the arcs of all of these characters. I think it's great.
1:13:10 So I would fall right in line with you, gentlemen, give this an enthusiastic eight. I think that we have some really great upcoming episodes that are gonna round this out as the canvas becomes more and more epic and the stakes more Shakespearean more tragic. So yeah, great stuff. Really enjoying it. Have they mentioned that they're going to be making as like a season two for this or they're just only one? I think this is yeah. I think this is one and done because remember this grew from a this has already grown, It's already grown beyond kind of what Nicholas Myers originally conceived in terms of number of episodes, and so I think they're gonna they're gonna like wrap it all up by the end of these nine episodes.
1:13:57 Wow, well see what happens. Let's deal o her name. Score from the Truk Spaces. The overall Trek experts gave this in eight point. One, very very respective, A lot yep anthony when you live long and prosper dude. First time on the podcast, awesome, a. Young start review of Star Trek con the audio drama episode, or a magical thinking which means Now I was talking from track birthdays, and that means the Star Trek birthday song, and that means the Star Trek Birthday song. There we go.
1:15:10 That was not a clemon song. Technically, it's not just Star Trek birthdays because we've decided to move beyond a Star Trek birthdays. But you know that's okay, and we always like to start off our birthday segment. I sadly not remembering those members of our family who are no longer with us, and for that returned to Eric, take it away. Eric, Yeah, Jim, this week we have many remembrances, but I promised that I have some really good tidbits about them. So here we go first on our list this week, as we are remembering the actress Margaret Ruth Kidder, also known as Margo Kidder, the Canadian American actress, director, an activist best known for her role as Lois Lane in the original Superman films, including Superman two Superman Three. She also appeared in Amityville Horror. She also actually later appeared in two episodes of Smallville, so her contributions to the Superman franchise go beyond just the movies. She was also a personal favorite of mine in seventeen episodes of that cartoon Captain Planet and the Planeteers from the early nineties as the voice of the Earth itself, the voice of Gaya played by Margot Kidder, So we lost her back in twenty eighteen. Happy Birthday to Margo Kidder. Happy Birthday as well to Marsha Hunt, the actress who played and Jamison in the TNG first season episode Too Short a Season, and was in a number of films in the thirties
1:16:41 and forties and then in the fifties. Guess what she got blacklisted by the McCarthy Trials, her and her husband along the way, so that sort of ruined her acting career for a while, but then come the late fifties and into the eighties she kind of came out of semi retirement and appeared in a number of guest roles along the way. Marcia Hunt is the oldest person when she died, I believe is still the oldest person to have ever performed in Star Treks. She died at the ripe old age of one hundred and four years old back in twenty twenty two. So happy birthday to Marsha Hunt. Happy birthday to Mark Lemia, the actor who portrayed John Doe in the Next Generation third season episode Transfigurations. Happy birthday as well to Samantha Egger, an Academy Award nominated British actress who portrayed Marie Picard in the TNG four season episode Family. She was in the nineteen sixty five film The Collector, making her one of the only only six Star Trek performers nominated in the category of Best Actress in a Leading Role, So good for her. In case you're interested, The others are Gene Simmons, Louise Fletcher, Winona Ryder, Whoopi Goldberg, and Michelle Yoe, with Fletcher and Yo being the only two winners. She also won a Golden Globe for this portrayal and was named Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival. So very talented, very pivotal role.
1:18:06 We only lost her just a few days ago, you guys. She died on October fifteenth of this year at eighty six years old. So happy birthday and lots of love and remembrances going out to the recently lost Samantha Egger. Happy birthday as well to Barbara Baldavin, who was the actress who played Angela Martin in the TS episode The Balance of Terror. When Baldevine was cast by her husband for a second Star Trek appearance in Shore Leave, her character in the script was called Mary Teller, but crew on the set realized that she had already played a major character named Angela Martin in Bounce of Terror, so she was called that in the dialogue for that episode. However, William Shatner still accidentally calls her Teller at one point, So if you go back and watch Shore Leave, there's a little faux pas there where he says the wrong character name. Later, she played Yeoman Baker in Spaceseed, and a communications officer known as Lisa in Turnabout Intruders. So happy birthday to Barbara Baldovin. Happy Birthday as well to Lou Scheimer, one of the co founders of Filmation, a producer on Star Trek, the animated series. He also voiced at least four characters on the series, but as a voice actor, he's primarily remembered for voicing the benevolent King Randor in the inept Magesian Magician Orco in the animated series He Man and the Masters of the Universe. There's
1:19:41 more that I would love to say about this guy if we had more time, because his list of things that he's been in is just gigantic. It's an absolute laundry list. But suffice to say that Filmation had a huge influence on the animated television industry and many of our childhoodhood and or teenage influences can be credited to this man. And there's some excellent examples here upon the screen for all our patreons. So Lou Scheimer lost back in twenty thirteen and eighty four years old, Happy birthday to him. Happy birthday to Michael Dunn, the Academy Award nominated Tony Award nominated American actor who portrayed Alexander in cos's third season episode Plato's step Children. It wasn't until today that I learned that at one point he was actually considered by Gene Roddenberry for the part of Spock in the Cage. He was also originally considered for the role of Baylock in the Carbo Might Maneuver, which may ring a little bit more true for some people. But that part of court, of course, eventually went to the very talented Clint Howard. So Michael Dunn, very talented actor, unfortunately only lived to be thirty eight years old. We lost him back in nineteen seventy three. Happy birthday to Michael.
1:20:56 Happy birthday to Samuel Lloyd Haynes, the actor who played Alden in the TOS first season episode where No Man Has Gone Before. He was sort of a professional guest star when you look at his list of things that he's been in. His biggest television role came on one hundred and thirteen episodes of the early seventies television show called Room to twenty two. I've never seen it. I'm sure it was amazing. We lost Samuel back in nineteen eighty six at the age of fifty two years old. Happy birthday to Samuel Lloyd Haynes. Happy birthday to John Anderson, who played the role of Kevin Uxbridge in the TNG third season episode The Survivors. An absolutely massive list of guest star performances are credited to this man, and none of them are for very many episodes. But I did find six episodes of mcgvory you might remember him in that series, eleven episodes of The Rifleman, and twelve episodes of gun Smoke. Most of the rest of his credits are like one in two episode one shots, but there's one hundred and fifty of them. So John Anderson, a face I'm sure you all recognize, was fantastic in The Survivors.
1:22:06 Happy birthday to him. We lost him all the way back in nineteen ninety two when he was only sixty nine years old. Happy birthday as well to Lev Mayler, also known as Ralph Mauer, the actor and voice artists who played by Lar in the TOS first season episode The Return of the Arkans and an acosion SS Lieutenant in the second season episode Patterns of Force. One of Mahler's closest friends I learned today was Mark Leonard actually, and outside of acting, he enjoyed reading about the history of the Second World War. So a man of nonfiction. Lev Mayler lost back in twenty twenty two at eighty eight years old. Happy birthday to him. Happy Birthday to Julie Parrish born as Ruby Joyce will Barr, the actress who played mis Piper in the TOS first season episode The Menagerie Part One. Happy Birthday to Georgia Brown, the actress who portrayed Helena Rojhenko in the TNG fourth and fifth season episodes Family and New Ground. Brown earned a BAFTA Award nomination for her role in the nineteen seventy one film The Raging Moon. She also earned an Emmy nomination for her guest appearance as Madame Lazora in an episode of Cheers. Happy Birthday to Georgia Brown. Happy birthday as well to James Daly, who played the immortal Flint in the TNG original series Sorry I Said, TNG in Star Trek TOS third season's episode Requiem for Methuselah. Of course,
1:23:41 James Daily is the father of actors Tim Daly and Tyne Daily to other folks who are famous in their own right. He's probably best known for his role as Paul Lochner in the hospital drama Medical Center, in which he played Chad Everett's supervisor on that show for quite a long time. James Daily lost all the way back in nineteen seventy eight at fifty nine years old. Happy birthday to him and last, but not least, on our remembrance list. This week, guys, we go to the other Star franchise and we say Happy birthday to Mss Carrie Fisher, the American actress best known for her portrayal of Princess Leah organa solo in the Star Wars franchise. Her other film credits include Shampoo, The Blues, Brothers, Hannah and Her Sisters, The Burbs, When Harry Met Sally, Soap Dish, and The Woman.
1:24:33 She Actually was nominated twice for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance in the NBC sitcom Thirty Rock and her performance in Channel in Channel four series Catastrophe from twenty seventeen. But aside from sort Of, the Princess Leah and some of the TV works she did. She wrote a pretty famous semi autobiographical novel called Postcards from the Edge, which would eventually be turned into a screenplay for a film version, and that garnered her a nomination for a BAFTA Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Of course. Carrie Fisher was the daughter of singer Eddie Fisher and actress Debbie Reynolds. Carrie Fisher, you are one who we remember every single time we think of that other franchise, Star Wars, and you were lost too early in twenty sixteen at the age of sixty years old. Happy birthday to Carrie Fisher and that folks.
1:25:34 Yes, we didn't have a cash on Princess Leah when you were growing up. And when we got to see her in the Middle Bikini and Return of the Jedi, I mean the teenage body was like, wow, she was yeah, he ripley. Actually she was the first. You know the scene that I always think of with her and I don't know why, and I think of her as kind of like the power in this one. But there's the scene in the original Star Wars where she and Luke grab on to one another and Luke swings across the open gap and she's the one with the blaster. I just love that scene with her because they give her the gun, right and he's just kind of like the vehicle to get her to where she needs to be, but she's actually the one who's in control.
1:26:21 I know he's supposed to read as the hero in that one, but I always kind of read that scene as like, oh man, Princess Leigh is kicking ass with this blaster right now. I love it. Absolutely, Alex Young to have a crash. Yeah. I had a pleasure of meeting her quite a while ago. She was an interesting character for sure. That's it, all right, Charles, Well, that is it for our remembrances. So I'm going to pass this flaming birthday candle over to you, sir. Oh, thank you, Eric. I just got a few to get to read myself. Let's start off with a happy birthday.
1:27:06 Sabrina Sharoff, former actress who played in Mara Maine Ts' third season episode The Paradise Syndrome, Heavy birthday to Daniel Stewart, who played Batty in TG's fifth season episode Inner Light. He is a son of Patrick Stewart. Happy Birthday, Daniel, Happy birthday to al Moman, Canadian born actors who played Kam Grant, Mere Universe Carmen Grant and Control Processing Grant Reanimated Corpse and Star Trek Discovery. Happy birthday to Amanda a Curie actress who played Caitet Val Sasha in Star Trek Discoveries four season episode All Is Possible.
1:28:03 And last on my list is Happy birthday to Kiddy Swink, who played Minister Rohan in DS nine second seeson episode Sanctuary and Lara Lran in seventies and episode Tracking Into the Wind. Married to Deep Space nine regular armand Sherman since nineteen and eighty one. Let me pass its flaming candle over to Paul as I figure out who loves Harmon. That's great, great stuff to know, fabulous. Okay, we're gonna dep our toe over into the Star Wars universe briefly, and we're gonna say happy birthday to the phenomenal Felicity Jones, who's done all kinds of great things. British actress of course, who's you know? Promio is prominently known for playing lead character jin Urso in Rogue one, a Star Wars story showed up not that long ago in the big film The Brutalist as well. So theres lots and lots and lots of work in their credits. But my goodness, Star Wars is going to be Numero uno a million dinner so action figures later, you know. Amazing, So an indelible mark and terrific performance, really really cool. So happy birthday for Flissenie Jones. Going outside of the realm of fiction into the realm of reality for a minute here briefly, someone who actually has had a foot in both universes, the great doctor Pioneer May Jamison, Okay, American physician and astronaut.
1:29:44 Of course, history will regard me Jamison as the first American African American woman who travel in space aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavor. And then to honor that in the sixth season episode of Next Gen Second Chances, doctor Jemison appeared as Lieutenant Junior Great Palmer in that episode. So very cool to have been in outer space and outer space in the future on Star Trek, so really really cool. What a pioneer she was. Amazing achievements, so really great to see science and what a role model for so many young girls who were inspired to say I could do that, I could be an astronaut, I can go to space, and who might not have had the forethought to do that if not for your example. So a pretty amazing achievement. So a million young girls, thank you for your example.
1:30:38 Doctor. I'm delighted to be able to say happy birthday. Phenomenal Michael McKean, who should need no introduction to fans of comedy. So many things that this gentleman has appeared in. Of course, actor, comedian, composer, musician, director, played a very strange part in Void of a Clown in the second season episode The Thaw. But this guy, what a luminary. He's been on just everything, right, I mean, so many things. You can see him way back on the X Files. Of course. To me, he's always going to be David Saint Hvens in This is Spinal Tap and the sequel that's rolling out right now. But phenomenal character, a hilarious actor, just amazing, and check out his work on the Breaking Bad sequel series Better call sauw Okay, I mean wow, if you really want to see some crazy commitment to character and somebody who's just like you normally associate with being a comedic actor and seeing him take turns into drama and going into some pretty dark places. Phenomenal. If you've never seen that show, I highly recommend it. Better call saw great, great stuff. Indelibly portrayed though by the great Michael McKean.
1:32:05 A big fan. I think he's just a tremendous actors. Happy birthday to Vanessa Marshall, voice and television actress. Oh she's so good. Who voices Twilight pilot character Harrison Doula on the incredibly underrated animated show Star Wars Rebels. A lot of people just do not know Rebels. It's like, if you're a real Star Wars fan, you should be checking out this show. If you feel like they have not made good Star Wars in a long long time the original trilogy. Wow, should you be watching Star Wars Rebels. Some of the best storytelling ever in the Star Wars universe. And she's a phenomenal character. Harrison Doula is pilot leader, adventurer.
1:32:49 You know, she's just outstanding, really really great. Does conventions all the time, so it's easy to meet her if you want to track her down. But Vanessa Marshall is a phenomenal actress. So really great and an indelible part of Star Wars history. Happy Birthday goes out to Larissa Laskin, actors who played Kla in Enterprise, the second season episode Coach Jenitor CoA Janitor. I'm going back to the old school days, old school days. Somebody's gotten a lot of grief for this role, I'm telling you, But did I think a great job. I'm got to put in the historical context of the era. Happy Birthday to Sheila Leyton, who played Luma in tos's original series third season episode Spock's Brain and Wow, a very maligned episode for a lot of cattiness for various things. I mean, it constantly gets referred to goofy ways, but pretty interesting stuff and she had to do some pretty wild things with the straight face and not always easy to pull off. But she should definitely be respected for her work and not mocked, would be my take on it, because I think she did an outstanding job. Finally, I am someone who is easily impressed by royalty. Sometimes I know I shouldn't be, but I had something about the presence of a regal individual sometimes will stop me in my tracks, and so I would like to honor the actress who played Denaris
1:34:19 Stormborne of House Targarian, first of her name, Queen of the Andals and the royin Ar and the first Man, Queen of Marine, Calisi of the Great Grass Sea, the Unburnt, Breaker of Chains and mother of Dragons. Of course, Denaris Targarian was played phenomenally by the glorious Emelia Clark. Remember the British Empire no less so how about that English actress best known for a role on Game of Thrones, which we just dived into there, but she received numerous Primetime Emmy Awards there also for playing Sarah connor On in Terminator Genesis, one of the feature films of that franchise, and also played Kira in Solo, a Star Wars story, and that character has been had a really interesting subsequent life in Star Wars comics as well. I think there's a lot of us that would love to see that character come back in some form in Star Wars. I think Solo is pretty maligned but a pretty good movie.
1:35:26 It's a lot of bad rap, But Amelia Clark's a rock star. I mean, she really is. I mean a lot of people took issues with the direction that wrapped up Game of Thrones. Her work is templary. I mean, she just was phenomenal and had to do a lot of hard stuff and go to some rough places, and I just think she just is. It's a performance and a character for the ages. I think she did remarkable, remarkable work. So Amelia Clark, we salute you, fellow Scorpio, and thank you for your work. And I'm really excited to see more you got. We're ready, I mean you are like a convention legend already, and wait to see what you do next. Because he's got a lot of talent.
1:36:09 That's what I've got on my list here, and I'd like to defer things and pass the birthday platter over to uncle Jim. Well. I thank you so much, Paul. I don't know if I can match up to all these awesome actors. I have only have two on my list. I like to do the Klingons. So the first one I want to say is happy birthday to Sam Whitworth. He played a zen Day Arboreal in Star Trek Enterprise third season episode The ship Man, but I'm gonna remember him there. He is on the screen as playing Melr in Lower Decks fifth season episode of Farewell to farms and tying into our Star Wars theme which seems to be going tonight.
1:36:55 He also voiced Darth Maul and the Star Wars Clone Wars and in the Star Wars Clone Wars movie, which is pretty cool. And we reviewed Unification eight five eight three eight whatever that was. He was the Captain Kirk. The younger version of Captain Kirk that we see in Unification was also Sam Whitweer, So Happy birthday, Sam wentwork. We love your work, and I hope we see Mala again. I thought he was a great great Clanion car. He wasn't your typical claimon if you guys remember uh he worked on the blood wine farm and his brother wanted glory in war and he just wanted to make blood wine and eat tube worms. So you know, I like him and he played a great character. Happy birthday is same, Wentworth?
1:37:44 All right? The next one, I've got a great Scott Is he an incredible actor? What hasn't he done? We want to say happy birthday and kaplat to the first Klaion that we really get to see on screen, Christopher Lloyd. And there he is, and see in the picture of all the great characters that he's played. He's the American veteran actor, voice actor, and comedian who played the role of Commander Krug in Star Trek three The Search for Spot of course, Doc Brown, you know Adam Fester and the Adam's family. You know he's been on taxi. I mean, what hasn't Christopher Lloyd been in? I mean everything that he touches, his gold, he's we're lucky to have him in the Star Trek family. So kapla and happy birthday through Christopher Lloyd and not exactly a klingon on my list, but he is a co host on our show. And I don't have my I gotta get my weird al birthday song back again, which I don't have. But we do want to wish a happy happy birthday to our very own Paul, the whole yad. So I don't have it, so I'm gonna have to say happy birthday, Paul.
1:39:08 Oh thanks well, Fay, heavy birthday, heavy birth. Oh thanks dude, appreciate it. I appreciate it. Friends, thank you so much. Gonna gonna wak some havoc tomorrow for sure. For sure. Hey, you know, I wanted to mention one thing really quick about Sam witwore for folks who you were talking about his work as Darth Maul this next year in twenty twenty six, Right, there is a new animated series coming that his features Sam Witwer exclusively. It's called Darth Maul's Shadow Lord. Okay, it's going to be a big part of the Star Wars rollout for next year on the Disney Plus channel. But he is redoing the role of Mal a whole new series of stories.
1:40:06 So super exciting news for Sam whit Whitber fans did not want to omit that he's just terrific guy at conventions to really really nice tall but yeah, real, real talented chaps. So a lot of cool people who are scorpios, right, I mean it's you know, I don't like to, you know, take credit for anything, but but it's fun to be among them. And then there's you too, and then it's me. Right, you know, you know he. In the Deck of Emory Cards. Right, of course, he was on that show about the werewolf, the vampire and the ghosts that lived together in a house together almost in a baby. Yeah.
1:40:53 I think whatever that show was, I missed it. Yeah, I don't know that one. So, yeah, you'd have to look them up. But I went to a convention and all three of them where the Ghost of Vampire and the Werewolf. He played the vampire and he was really cool. This was like pre Star Wars, pre everything, and he was he was really cool. I had a chance to meet him and he was an awesome guy, a lot of fun to talk to, very interesting guy. So he was neat. Yeah, so Darth Maul got you know, I think I'd love to see more of Darth Maul. I thought he was a very poorly used character, and I'd like to see more of them, the full the full version, not the cut and half version on Spider Legs that we see later. But at any rate, all right, yes, yes, I've seen.
1:41:48 There's a lot of Darth Maul and Rebels. I mean they really moved beyond the Spider Legs into like reinvigorating the whole. Character again in the seventh seasion of the Clone Wars two, which I thought was really interesting combination of what happened with the Clone Troopers turning into Shown Troopers and it's just like, yeah, Order six or six thing we're trying to take form. And show Phone Wars wrapped up beautifully it's so good. Yeah, all right, so guys, that wraps up our starts. Birthdays are sci fi birthdays. I apologize we went beyond this week, but that's okay, and now it's time for the starts. Right news.
1:42:34 Priority one message from Starfleet coming in on secure channel. Incoming transmission enter authorization code, Command codes verified. Define parameters of program level nine. Authorization required, specifying parameters. Transfer updata is complete. A blank alert, A blank alert. Guys, we like to start off our star Tuk moves if we can where the shutner says what, but unfortunately Shannon hasn't been saying. So we're gonna move on and we're going to start us off with some Starfreld Academy news. Take it away there.
1:43:16 Yeah, I'm excited to mix it up a little bit because I think we're all pretty excited about Starfleet Academy, which of course is going to be premiering January fifteenth, twenty twenty six, with only well only with two episodes right off the bat, which I know some folks don't like the kind of one two punch, but I don't mind it at all. The good thing is that we've already gotten news that Starfleet Academy will return for a season two. Of course, the first season may still be months away, but already we know that's not all we're going to get from the series. The cast is led by Holly Hunter Stars in My Eyes as Nala Ake, the Chancellor of Starfleet Academy and captain of the USS Athena.
1:44:02 She's also a long lived half Blanthonite, and so we have supposed there may be a Pellia connection here. I guess we'll find out. Playing the Starfleet Academy cadets are Sandro Rosta as Caleb Mehr, an orphan with a troubled past and unlikely Starfleet Canada cadet. We also have Kareem Diane as j Den Craig, a Klingon cadet who dreams of becoming a medical officer. Paris Brooks as series acclamation Mill aka Sam, the first of her kind to ever attend Starfleet Academy. Spoiler alert, she's a hologram. George Hawkins as Darren Raymie, an aspiring captain from a wealthy homeworld.
1:44:49 Bella Shepherd as Genesis Live and Admiral's daughter determined to make her own name in Starfleet. Zoe Steiner as timas Sadal, a azoid and daughter of the president of Beta Zed. Reprising their roles in previous Star Trek series are Robert Picardo as the Doctor, Tig Nataro as jet Reno, and Odeed Fair as the Silver Fox. Admiral Vance. Gina Yaescher recurs as a commander named Laura Thock, a Klingon Gemhadar hybrid who is the Chancellor's first officer and cadet master.
1:45:29 Also recurring is Tatiana Masslani Mausslani. Yes, but of course one of the book If there were two bookends, sort of of the stardom of this show, one end would be Holly Hunter, and I believe the other end would be mister Paul Giamatti, who recurs as a part Klingon part telewrite named Noose Braca, season one's villain with an ominous past connected to one of our cadets. The series follows a young group of cadets who come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism according to Paramount Plus. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers. As they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves, and a new enemy Paul Giamati that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself. Woo super excited about this one. Of course, we've got a couple other we you know, we didn't mention Mary Wiseman. She's going to be in at least one episode that we know of, but set in the thirty second century, this is kind of going beyond season four of Star Trek Discovery. And regardless of what anybody else on the Internet has to say about it, I am super excited about this series. Super excited to see Holly Hunter. I'm sorry, but the trailers that we've seen so far, she is just nailing it, like from left
1:47:02 to right. I love it, and I love that thirty second century aesthetic as well. So very excited to see this show. Yeah, I'm looking forward to it myself for sure. Okay, so I've got our next story. And speaking of Mary Wiseman, Mary Wiseman's Tilly will be in Star Trek Starfleet Academy, but not as much as we had expected. The upcoming show Starfleet Starfleet Academy was first officially announced in March of twenty twenty three. Just over a year later, the announcement came in that Discoveries, Mary Wiseman, Silvia Tilly taking the Taro Jet Reno, and ODIs Fair adamal Vance would be appearing in the new series. Since then, we've seen the Taro and there in photos, the trailer and press materials, but nothing about Mary Wiseman. But we have some news.
1:47:56 There have been character profiles of the Cadets, plus details on the other characters, including recarring Coach stars like Paul Giamane and Tadianas Laney and Gina you Schaer, and even the news that the show was renewed for a second season, which Eric has talked about, which is currently in production. But no Mary Wiseman. That seemed odd, as Wiseman's Tilly was a natural fit for the series. Her character had already been established in Starfleet Discovery as an instructor for the space based Academy before it reopened on Earth to kick off the new series. Even before the Academy was officially announced but heavily rumored, Wiseman's Tilly was seen as an obvious crossover character. Matt Minovich, a respective veteran TV industry and entertainment reporter known for breaking news reported that you can rest assured that Wiseman will appear on Starfleet Academy as a guest star in one episode. While it's good news that Wyson will show up, it's disappointing she'll only be in one episode. It's likely she'll be in their premiere to kick things off. That is sad news because I loved Tilly and I thought I thought they set it all up with her. In fact, I haven't watched Discovery in a while, but I believe in the final episode, when Tilly says goodbye to Michael Burnham, didn't she drop a line that Tilly had been teaching at the Academy for twenty years. She was the longest tenured
1:49:28 Academy instructor at that point. So it's odd that she would only be in one episode. And they did set her up with a class in an episode of Discovery which we just saw a birthday for one of those cadets. So I don't know. I don't know why she's only going to be in one episode. I'll take it Tilly anyway I can get her, But it's just sad that she's only going to be in one episode. But yeah, I hate to like go on pure conjecture, but it seems like something's going on in Mary Wiseman's life, and I'm guessing that there are personal reasons that she's not in more of this season. It absolutely was set up to be her as a central character to this and now all of a sudden, it's not there anymore.
1:50:15 So either she got another role somewhere, or she's got health issues, or she's got something else going on. We don't know what it is, but I suspect that there's some other reason that Mary Wiseman's not in more episodes, and it's not just that they didn't plan to have her there originally. It'd be great to get her on the podcast to talk about it one day, but clearly there's nothing on the internet about it right now, so whatever it is, nobody's ready to talk about it. Well, we did talk to her ex husband and he was really cool. So he was really cool. He was also very guarded about talking about her. Yeah, that's for sure, but maybe season two. Maybe season two.
1:50:57 All right, Paul, Paul, you have our finals story. I'm sorry it wasn't a toy story, but it was as close as I could get. It's master replicas. It's fine, It's fine. You know. Also to guys, it's a lot of characters on this news Starfleet Academy, right. I mean you've already got like the Doctor on there, and you've got Jet Reno, and you know you've already got like two recurring characters from another show. I think that, you know, My guess is it's it's it's the it's the calculus of like how many characters do we have on here? Right? And and also I think like she's just had a rough, rough road to hoe on social media. Mary Wiseman has right.
1:51:39 I mean, it's just I think that there's a lot of nervousness about perpetuating that character from the producer's point of view, right, I mean a lot of people love her, We love her on the show, but man, not everybody does. And I think that they are so nervous and and reactive in terms of these days. It's like if you were getting a bad word on so media, that reactiveness can really change things. So we don't know it's the whole picture, but I think it's complicated, but a lot of new characters to juggle time for it, right. I mean, that's a big list that Ericter Shredda right, and Jim Matti and Holly Hunter are going to get as much FaceTime as I can't hopefully, But I don't see how you have room for half the Test of Discovery to come over and whatnot. And maybe she could just leave the door open, like she can be a way on some away mission and she comes back in a more interesting role and some you know, seasons when a little bit more distances, so it's always a way, you know, we'll see what happens. But I think it's good that they're you know, putting some focus on marketing towards you know, the new the new characters, which I think is hopefully we'll go over it could be a whole show talking about and reactions to the most recent I've been kind of amazed some of the family do it again.
1:52:57 We can talk about that. In the meantime, we do have some news from our good pals at Master Replicas. Hello, Ben Robinson, Bud because Master Replica's decloaks new Star Trek Deep Space nine USS Defiant dedication plaque replicas. Because these cats have been making these for a while and they're pretty sweet. The Team of Master Replicas is continuing to expand their line of full size Starship dedication plaques you know, like the kind you see on the wall when you step out of the turbot lift, really really cool, and announcing this week that their next release will be straight from the bridge of Captain Cisco's Tough Meddleship. The dedication plaque from Star Trek Deep Space nine's Fierce Uss Defiant is the third in a line of full size replicas, following plats for Captain Kirk's Enterprise Captain Janeway's Voyager earlier this year. The new Defiant plaque is true to size of the original set used prop fourteen inches by ten and a half inches, and it's based upon original art instructions from Trek legend Mike Okuda, who I'd love to get on the show.
1:53:57 This is a full size poly Resident replica fourteen inches wide by ten point five inches tall. As we just said so here we are repeating ourselves to the dedication blaque for the US is Defiant on the bridge of the ship, just in the right of turvile lift doors. Wow, it's like we already just say, amazing. The original blaque was designed by Star Trek scenic artists Michael Kuda. I'm feeling a sense of deja vous in the reading of this stuff here who subplot instructurally gave the pros who used them to create this version, which is designed to be hung on a wall that should come to now someprise, or if you're in the vacuum of space, just let it float around whatever's most convenient. But this is the first time a full sized version of this has been available, making it so collectible. The Black codverirms that Defiant was the first starship in its class and was launched from the Antari Shipyards on Start eight forty seven fifty three to eight point five. As an in joke, the names of the people who worked on the ship are actually members of the crew that made Star Trek Deep Space nine.
1:54:56 Oh Clever Clever Rascals. Like the Enterprise and Voyager plaques before, the Defiant plaque is expected to ship before the end of the year. It is available for pre order at the Master Replica's website now for the low price of thirty four to ninety nine pounds now for you Yanks and translate into dollary dues. That's forty eight dollars, So a steal from master replicas there, which well you can put at the at the door of your collector's room as people come in and feast their eyes on your many things. If you're a defiant fan, what better ridiculously cool greeting can you have for people who enter your special inner sanctum. So that is something we would definitely highly recondise endorse. When you recommend to endorse something, it's called recondising, as we just discovered himself. There you are, heady, Yeah, Well that's our news for this particular episode of Track Talking.
1:55:58 And to close us out, I'll turn things over to the helmsman, Captain tiberlelift maintenance engineer. And all of the above, Uncle Jim, Why, thank you so much, Paul. I do have something I want to show you guys. Can you guys see this here?
